This. Overhyped, pretentious, much like ballet. Oh and lesbo scene - meh. Not even a shot of tity in sight.. Unless u count headlights poking through leotard.

Rent it, save some dough. Had to compensate for overpaying for it by sneaking in to see Little Fockers. Another meh.

You don't have to be sophisticated, that's what's so great about this film, imo. If you don't think it's building towards something you clearly didn't get the point from the start. It's about Portman's character struggling to discover and embrace something about herself - her dark side - and when she finally does, it kills her. The thing that makes this film so amazing is that the themes and plot were right in your face the whole time, and yet it was still gripping/intriguing.

it really didn't build to anything suprising though. It was so in your face it was annoying imo.

i really get annoyed at the 'arthouse' movies which are trying way too hard to be arthouse...

there was no point throughout the film where i was suprised, or shocked: It was a technically well made film, and the acting was good, but it really lacked in story and plot. I liked the parallels between swan lake and her character portraying it, and the exploration of stress and pressures in the performing arts, and in some ways, the look at mental disease, but it was just so hollywood in-your-face about it. there was no nuance, no subtlety, nothing to really glue me to the screen.

Alright, since we're dropping spoilers here, I felt the line at the end about "perfection is possible" over her dying as a result of attaining it was pretty trite.

couldn't agree more. yikes

This was a Starbucks Venti Tripple Decaf Hawaian Spiced Pumpkin Fat Free Soy Latte with a double squirt of Lame. Pretentious, overpriced, nothing special.

Maybe it's because Ive seen hotter Russian lipstick dykes lezzing out in real life too many times... And saw the REAL swan lake (ballet) performed by internationally acclaimed trouppe in Moscow...

I hoped to see Mila's sweet punem covered in Natasha's vag juice from the business angle of the scene - shaved snatch and all... But my jergens went unused, seats left unstained.

Tragedy.
