So it's been a typical August, then?

Here in VT we suffered what NPR reported as the worst flooding damage of any state due to Irene. Two hundred year old covered bridges and several houses washed away. Officially declared by the governor as the worst flooding the state has ever seen. My place is fine, but many others weren't so lucky. They're actually considering flooding the capital city (Montpelier) in order to avoid breaking a dam, which would cause much worse damage down river. The strangest thing was that I smelled sea water, and we're over 150 miles from the coast.
