i do agree with AMEX. they charge an arm and a leg to the local small general store, this at times they don't have credit card machines because they can't generate any profit with all the merchant fees. that's why at times when i'm at a small restaurant, and they happen to do accept cards, i tip a little bit more to help them cover the merchant fee.
