Well, none of those are countries. New York gave the world disco and hip-hop, and for that is probably more important than either Detroit or Chicago.

Posted by rem11 on Jan-04-2012 00:05:

makes no sense since ur 1 of them.

Posted by rem11 on Jan-04-2012 00:13:

i cant believe oakey worked for DefJam before anything. well , no i guess that wsas after his ibiza stint, but u can make a uk/ny correlation.. plus dnb / hiphop.

u could say that each country had the biggest impact on a sub genre of edm at a specific decade but never fully as a whole.

it was in reference to nrg's comment. I suppose I should have quoted him to show I'm not that bad at geography. The sounds from all 3 cities rubbed off on each other quite a bit, and there was arguably just as much dance music coming out of the big apple at around the same time. I have always found that the contribution the city made got snubbed a little by music enthusiasts for some reason or another. I've never quite understood it.

Twilo

Posted by zyklon-jay on Jan-04-2012 00:43:

I'm talking about way before twilo existed.

Posted by enydo on Jan-04-2012 00:53:

No no, I'm pretty sure you're only talking about Twilo.

todd terry and todd edwards? these guys showed up 10 years late to the party.

jean michel jarre, bortoloti, moroder, waterman and even barbosa from new york. Take a look at what these guys were able to do with regards to innovation.

the italians were sampling and max mixing in the early to mid 80s

new york is much more important than detroit or chicago. If we are talking about music production.
