I just find it funny how they went and shut down so many sites + seized assets and everything yet still tried to introduce SOPA. Just imagine this but 10x worse.

Basically the international law is now:
American or affiliated country - You're allowed to censor the internet in order to protect your businesses at the expense of your people.

Non American or affiliate - Censoring the internet is violating human rights and you're a repressive regime.

Why was MegaUpload really shut down?

I present to you... MegaBox. MegaBox was going to be an alternative music store that was entirely cloud-based and offered artists a better money-making opportunity than they would get with any record label.

"UMG knows that we are going to compete with them via our own music venture called Megabox.com, a site that will soon allow artists to sell their creations directly to consumers while allowing artists to keep 90 percent of earnings," MegaUpload founder Kim 'Dotcom' Schmitz told Torrentfreak

Not only did they plan on allowing artists to keep 90% of their earnings on songs that they sold, they wanted to pay them for songs they let users download for free.

"We have a solution called the Megakey that will allow artists to earn income from users who download music for free," Dotcom outlined. "Yes that's right, we will pay artists even for free downloads. The Megakey business model has been tested with over a million users and it works."

beatport takes 60%... need more details though. seeing that megaupload seemed shady as hell, these could be false promises.

Good interview and I personally hope he gets off. Seems like they're trying to prosecute him using a SOPA style of thinking when the bill got shut down by the public. The only difference between Megaupload and Youtube imo is Megaupload only catered to the recording industries needs whereas Youtube dropped to their knees and sucked corporate banana (being owned by Google I'm sure helps too) before even being asked.

I hardly doubt that they have as many uploads/downloads as megaupload. and haven't MU been around for longer?

For sure on both accounts. But I'm strictly talking about the service and quality that each site provides (time around and total uploads are out of their control). No captchas, fast DLs, multiple concurrent downloads, no pushing of accounts and no timed bandwidth cap (that I've seen) etc is what I mean...

So then how are they making money? Servers are expensive to rent.

I find IceFilms sucks now. I barely use it. The streams are SOOOO slow. It's not even worth it.
