They're awesome! These are the top 5 reasons why I bought them:

  1. They're comfy;
  2. They amplify low frequencies, so you can really feel the bass;
  3. They're really comfortable;
  4. They make the bass sound louder, by amplifying the low frequencies;
  5. They make me feel one with Optimus Prime when I listen to brostep.
Oh, and they're also quite cheap in Japan. And I was there.

ya they are comfortable ill give you that but they fuck up low frequencies hard, just look at the fucking cave you're listening through. sonys are usually good for mids.

What's funnies is nigg@s thinking they're professional headphones

@Jack:

Have you even invested in a set of (at least) moderately priced cans yet?

Indeed, and I'm pretty sure they're going to ban it in Japan anytime soon. You can smuggle a whole family of Chinese refugees in there

Jokes aside, it never bothered me - my ears are completely inside the cushion, so I'm not sure the distance matters this much.

But these are way cheaper, as far as I know. That's why I bought them!

Actually, if the brand matters this much, I'd say: "What if the person in questions wears their Dre Beats everywhere and genuinely loves it?".

Brand doesn't particularly matter, but Dre Beats are an apposite brand because they're both extremely trendy and massively shit value for money, which simultaneously reconfirms my points about people wearing them simply for show and the lack of any interest or knowledge in sound quality or music that goes with this behaviour. If I see people listening to music on their chunky headphones and obviously being absorbed by that music, then I usually assume good things - sometimes erroneously. In my mind they're listening to some Amon Tobin or something, even if they're actually listening to Adele. It's when they just wear these things pointlessly while never seeming to listen to anything much that I start to question it. It's all well and good saying it's inconvenient to take your headphones off every time you stop listening, but when the amount of non-listening time drastically exceeds the time spent using the fucking things, that argument no longer flies.

kinda like walking around wearing goggles on top of head but never having the intent to go swimming/walking into a dust storm/cutting onions that day hm

Posted by srussell0018 on Jan-28-2012 13:52:

I've had these for about 6 years and they're still going strong. Never had any complaints about the sound quality and the only problem I've had with them is having to replace the ear cups which cost about $5. And they're about half the price of BBD.

Posted by netroM on Jan-28-2012 14:59:

this one is a bit old, but still relevant (BBD = Bose)

Posted by MSZ on Jan-28-2012 15:08:

great guide man seems pretty spot on.

i already have cans, but ill be collecting them soon. next on my list are 2 pairs of grados, i checked the frequency charts and they're flat as fuck.

i realllly recommend metal bands.

I tend to make fun of my own taste, and I do love my upbeat uplifting up-tempo electronic music as much as the next coffee abusing guy, and drum'n'bass is by far my favourite genre, but I do like a bit of everything else just as much (with the sole exception of deep house... and most things "progressive").

As for the stuff churned out by the Ninja Tune label, my favourite artists are Hexstatic, Coldcut and Blockhead. Not sure if these are the artists you like... maybe not

It's not just the keeping them round the neck, it's an entire group of people who buy 300 headphones simply as a fashion statement, and proceed to intermittently listen to 128kps MP3s of over-compressed pop songs through their smart phone and its terrible, terrible amp

only read up to this point,
..nail on the head

EDIT: i have some skull candy headphones that i hook up to my smart phone when im walking to the shop or travelling or whatever, and if i dont have them on my head, i have them round my neck. not as a fasion statement tho, as skull candy is nothing worth advertising. but it just saves hassle of threading the wire through everywhere again when you want to put the headphones on again

I have a pair of Shure headphones for DJ'ing (750's i believe) and a pair of Klipsch earbuds for random listening [commuting, etc] (they are freaking amazing btw)

I don't mind the Shure's, but I'm thinking of getting a pair of new DJ phones, just not quite sure what to get yet.

my sister won a pair of Bests by Dr.Dre headphones and she gave em for me for Christmas. She didn't know anything bout em and i kinda didn't need headphones.

I found out they were the studio model and retail price is $300.

Sadly I tried to return em to best buy or radio shack for store credit and to my dismay, you need a receipt

its a month since christmas and i have yet to take em out of the box...

are these headphones worth using or should i try to sell em

Posted by Pantone199c on Jan-28-2012 20:22:

It's a fashion statement because they spent WAY, WAY, WAY, more money than they should have on those.

For the cost of those I would wear them everywhere.

Having sex: Headphones
Taking a dump: Headphones
Playing football: Headphones

Keep in mind I don't own these overpriced ghetto fab headphones.

If you got them for free I would sell them, but if you want to try them out just go to Best Buy and listen to their test models that they have on the floor. Then you can decide if you like them or want to sell them.

Currently using:

Want to buy:

I take them off when talking to people (grocery store or other stores).

My Senn 280s are starting to show too much wear-n-tear (have had to duct tape the headband twice now!). Time to get something new, and the Senn 449s are looking mighty tempting...

Yeah, they're about $50 more than one should be paying for portables, but still over half the price of Dre Beats.

You all have such large headphones outside? I find small ones to be more convenient

I've got the Sennheiser HD 650, Pionner HDJ 1000 and Sennheiser HD 25 mk II at home.

Lack of convenience is a price I'm willing to pay for superior sound. Besides, after a while, you simply adapt to their bulkiness.

I'm actually glad Dre Beats (and Skullcandy before them) made wearing cans fashionable. No longer must I be considered one of those odd audiophile types when taking transit. Or maybe I still am, since I'm wearing a brand that's clearly not Dre or Skull. Ah well, the more people wearing cans, the better, I say.

+1. These are the ear buds I currently wear:

They're hideous, but I like their sound, they are relatively cheap, and there's no way you can't find them when you're late
