maher is very good at opening imo. he knows how to slowly build up the crowd without being boring or trying to steal the spotlight. it's such a delicate balance

Posted by corjay9 on Jun-19-2012 22:22:

^Agreed. Maher knows what he's doing, he always warms up nicely.. when he b2b'd with Ostrich after Riccardo, man they fuckin killed it. Best local set I've ever seen.

FYI, the blond woman behind Markus in the pics is not Heather but a Stereo barmaid who was giving the drinks in the dj booth.

Great review Spin, you definitely nailed it on the button, it was nice seeing you at the party as well. How was Lee at Piknic?

Also, good review edmottawa, nice site and pictures! He was an absolute "Beast" for not taking a single break. Hopefully a round 3 is in the works or a closer return this time around to the temple.

Posted by Spin Laden on Jun-20-2012 21:56:

likewise, yours showed more depth

friend overdid it at Markus so I skipped Lee

Posted by edmottawa on Jun-20-2012 23:24:

Hey guys thanks for that feedback, really appreciate it.

I took out the part stating that the blonde lady was Heather Schulz. Judging from the pictures I found on the net Heather is also a tall blonde so I just assumed it was her.

7 hours is not that big of a deal. Nobody should need a break.

journalism 101 hehe but very nice read. I see Escapade changed venues, hopefully it's better organised than last years. I won't be going so get some good pics of the chicas

it probably went by pretty fast for him, the energy was there and it's one of the best places for him to test out stuff, can't get bored/tired with that.

Posted by Marcus007 on Jun-21-2012 14:58:

pfftt

if this guy can watch nyan cat for 10 hours Markus should be able to Dj for 100 hours

dude wtf? So DJs shouldn't take a piss during their set if they need to?

Posted by Ravemontreal on Jun-21-2012 15:20:

Taking a 30 seconds leak is not a break.

I would go to the bathrooms maybe 1-2 times in 8 hours when my blatter was about to explode. I was back within 1 minute

Once I took a piss in front of everybody at Stereo. Put the garbage under the mixer, and did it right there while people were dancing and screaming. people thought I was playing with the mixer but I was playing with my zizi.

Posted by Adam420 on Jun-21-2012 15:24:

lmao!

Posted by Marcus007 on Jun-21-2012 15:33:

you're serious? come on martin...

are you the drinkless/pissless/body fluidless DJ? i know you've done many extended sets in your time, but to say that NOBODY needs a break during a 7 hour set is pushing it, and it makes you sound like the biggest elitist/DJ purist ever.

the shit filter is full. try again.

everybody needs to pee, even DJs. especially if you're having a few drinks during your set! once the seal is broken, it doesn't stop lol...not everybody is comfortable with pissing in a bucket under a booth. that's kinda gross, actually.

i don't think he's talking about a piss break but more about commenting on seany's statement about schulz being a beast for playing a 7 hour set. 7 hour set is long, but not THAT long, and i think that's the point he was trying to get at.

Posted by ~*Stereohead*~ on Jun-21-2012 18:33:

7 hours is hellishly long, especially when you travel as much as markus does. everyone seems to forget that the amount of travelling these DJs do drains the fuck outta them.

when you spend 90% of your life on airplanes, i'd tip my hat to whoever pulls off a 5 hour set, let alone a 7 hour set. my opinion, i guess.

Posted by Adam420 on Jun-21-2012 18:56:

There's no way an out of shape DJ like Carl Cox could ever play a 7 hour set

Being in good physical shape helps a lot, I bet

oh and cocaine

yes i agree traveling around is tiresome, but at the same time we're talking about professionals here. this is what they do, this is their job and they charge a shit load to do it. 7 hours should not even be a concern for most of these guys even with their busy schedule.

Exactly. People need to raise their expectations about what a well paid professional dj is.

I'm not saying 7 hours is a walk in the park. You can get slightly crisp in the lower back and you are a little tired. But in no way it means you are a beast.

When I was living in California and London, I was working 50-60 hours a week. Take the plane Friday after work. Arrived in Montreal @ 10 pm. PLayed extended sets from 2 am to 10 am. Took the plane back and was off to work again fresh on Monday morning.

If you are in good health and not on drugs, it's not that hard to do, even if you take planes. Standing around and pushing CDs is just not physically that consuming.

tee heeeee

more djs should do that

Sasha used to have the most urinal friendly tunes, he'd drop 12 minute tracks and be off to drop a twosie if he wanted

Anyone ever hear the rumor about Deadmau5 pissing right on the floor of the booth because he was afraid someone would steal his tracks while he was in the bathroom?
