thats what i was gonna say, this is prolly the best Global Underground
CD ever, and if you want progressive, you'll find it on the global underground cd's.

So i also recommend the gu013 by Sasha.

Then try to get a copy of Sander Kleinenberg live at Electrolux
(16-06-2002)
That set is awesome progressive.

I for myself found out a few years ago (after listening to trance for a short while) that I like progressive a lot more..

Only listening to prog because others tell it's cool results in loads of people who don't really like the music, but listen to it because it's 'cool'. Chances are the next step is people producing cheap-ass wannabe prog just for the cash... This won't do the music any good.

Couldnt agree more. Also too many ppl nowadays strongly believe that prog. is the next logical step after trance, thus force themselves to "get into it" . Theres no hierarchy in electronic music ffs! No top of the musical pyramide. I say: try everything out and slowly develop your own "style" and dont follow others..

it has GREAT buildups, but there is no climax. like after the buildup it just goes back to the same exact beat it had going before. and it just does that OVER AND OVER AND OVER. there is no release in prog. and to me thats what makes it so "boring."

just my two cents

totlly agree, i love that moment just after everything comes together in say, an uplifting trance production, and it kicks in just after the break. it's like a big energy release. you just don't get that with prog IMO.

Sasha - Xpander

got me into prog

See thats what makes progressive so great. It never fully climaxes like a full on trance track. It slowly builds and builds keeping a nice steady pace throughout. With trance you have your buildup then the climax and then anything after the climax is just kinda bleh. Know what I mean? Ok its like sex. You know when you have been going at it with your girl for a while (probably 5 minutes for most of you...hehe) and you are both just about ready to climax...well instead of climaxing imagine having that great buildup feeling (the feeling right before you climax) the whole way through. You'd never want to stop! There is no need to "pull out" during a progressive track. You just keep bumpin n grinding all night long. Uhh ya anyway that is progressive my friend.

dudde, where have you been?? there are tons of peak time monsters with killer climaxes..

Posted by Kurve on Sep-10-2002 22:57:

the biggest misunderstanding is Progressive is trance..... when the fact is most progressive is more house related then anything else ..its pretty much a genre of its self... Progressive is a Vibe....it can be house, trance, breaks, etc but the vibe is progressive ...but if i had to put it into one of those genres its more house related. most people who listen trance dont like it cuz they are so used to the layout of trance music they get the feel that there is nothing happening in progressive ... but the fact is progressive has ton of things happening mainly in the beat! and THE GROOVE!!!

I say ones u get the feel of progressive there is no other style that compares ..IMO

I'm sorry. I know that it has been up on the forums before but if someone doesn't mind to explain the following question:
What is progressive, how is it different from trance?

I can't distinguish from the two. I read it on the forums before but it didn't quite make sense to me. Does anyone have a simple explanation?

Thanks A Lot

Here's a good rule of thumb:

Listen to a track. If you get to the end and it makes you think "That's it?" then it's probably progressive.

Personally, I like progressive if it's mixed into a nice set. But progressive tracks standing alone tend to be not powerful enough for my tastes.

Cheers,

Arbiter

Well, I'm not the biggest fan of progressive but....

progressive may sound boring but it's not...it has an interesting way(I can't explain but let's CALL it humor)...yes interesting way(humor) to make you feel powerful. I think the bassline and the rhytms seem to talk to each other...I know it sounds stupid but you also get that power....but not for very long time tho....

Progressive goes very well after hearing uplifting trance....Remainds you that you are alive(not flying somewhere up there)

so you're saying sex is better when you don't have an orgasm???
thats the funniest shit i've heard all day...thank you!

but prog doesn't GO ANYWHERE!! it just stays the same. i'll use your sex analogy. if some girl is going down on you, and she's just doing the same shit the entire time, it gets boring. it doesn't build up. its just the same steady pace, and to my knowledge, thats NOT how sex goes. if some girl is going down on me and its not leading to anything greater, wtf???? so to me that makes the head very boring. just like prog.

Posted by PSi on Sep-11-2002 13:26:

well crew you must understand that this is a TRANCE forum and therefore many people who listen to the knobskin uplifting shit will probably progressnot understand ive. So theres not really any point in arguing with the uplifting trance genrelists, they havent crossed into the darkside yet.

Zooooom the Darkside

Is it me or does the Tyler Stadius CD play with my head in weird and wonderful ways.
