Holy crap you people can be such fucking children.

Ya some of you might have better vocabulary than a school child...but the mentality is the same.

You invent exaggerated versions of what a person says so that you can start bashing someone and what? be like "haha..i'm better than that person"

Well good for you. you're better than a high school drop out who drives a fucking forklift.

The whole point of this thread is simple:

Share some fucking ideas on how to cut costs and pinch a few pennies for who ever might benefit from said ideas/information.

Sorry for stealing your valuable time you very important and successful businessman.

To each their own.

also: it's hockey. I'm not going to spend $30 a month to go to a gym so i can do manual lifting for my source of 'exercise/entertainment.'

and baseball is for fat people.

Buddy, you used the words "fundamentally broke". Say what you fucking mean then.

Anyway, budgeting isn't rocket science. The majority of what people spend their money aren't NEEDS. You could cut a lot of shit out of your life to save money. Drink less booze, smoke less cigarettes (or not at all!) prepare more of your own meals, go out less, spend less on entertainment, etc.

remember

Line of credit before credit card

and don't take out from your RRSP's unless you DON'T have a job or are a senior citizen OR are a first time homebuyer

You'll get taxed to shit.

I used to not have a phone, or any pets, or a television. You spend far less time at home, and far less time with other people because they can't get in touch with you, and... wait, shit, this is awful.

Only you can gauge your own spending habits. Stop buying stupid, unnecessary shit (duh). Buy frozen fish and vegetables and whole milk. There's your diet. Stop buying alcohol and cigarettes, so that you can live longer and enjoy a life full of foregoing all the little, simple pleasu- wait, shit, this is awful.

Don't they make hockey computer games? Those ought to be much cheaper.

Don't take this shit, BTG.

BAN THEM ALL.

im in a simular boat, just spent 2100 on upgrades for my jeep so im cutting back on some things, the quickest way for me to save money is actually through my dogs, im up to about 200 a month in food just for them so when things get tight i substitute 3/4 their food for raw fish from the river, which they love. so instead of going through a bag a week of food i can make a bag last all month.

also instead of going out with friends i invite them over for dinner, if it were still nice out id ride my bike around town and save my jeep only for wheeling and camping but now that its getting cold i dont have that option.

you can always start selling stuff you realize you dont need/want anymore if you got into a situation where you needed more money

one of my buddies used to leave his wallet at home everyday that way if he wanted to buy anything it took planning or an extra trip home, he saved so much money because he realized by the time he went to get his wallet that what ever he wanted to buy wasnt worth it.

yeah, just grease up your couch and floor with crisco while you play to simulate the hilarious flailing around you do on actual skates. Don't say I never did anything for you.

I'd settle for a Gulfstream IV instead of the 550 for a few trips, or cut back the wages for the staff on the expedition yacht.

People who bought vowels on Wheel of Fortune were a constant source of irritation for my mother.

BTG, the best thing to do in stagnating economy is to start spending. Now is the worst time to cut back. Start splurging and get that momentum going.

That's such an awesome idea. Stealing it.

Pretty sure the nail is in the coffin in terms of Milton Friedman's Free Market.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Sep-14-2012 15:09:

strange enough his "free market" system in quotations for the sheer lunacy of calling it that is pretty much how USA is run.

But if BTG wanted to adopt those policies, he would have to covertly give his neighbour aids then buy his belongings when said neighbour needs to pay for medicine at ridiculously low price.

(Forgive me if you already knew as much as you seem well read on this subject.)

Well, there is a reason that neoliberalism (aka neoconservatism & free market) is often called the Washington Consensus. Latin American academics call it Dependency Theory. As much as people bitch about the growing number of poor being on welfare, that is the condition the abandonment of Keynesian economic policies has fostered as many of the same conditions leading to the Great Depression in 1929 are present in today's "free" market. It seems like, currently, the goal is to stave off a depression by propping up many of the market actors responsible. What seems to be happening, however, is that the bubbles which would pop, leading to the demise of "free market capitalism", are kept perpetually inflated. Yes, a market collapse would be catastrophic but no one on Wall Street wants to make the sacrifices that would ensure stability. Instead, we're stuck with a one-way valve into a balloon, the integrity of which is desperately managed through a liberal application of band-aids.
