-- What subjects did you do in year 11&12?

Posted by dj_nomiz on Sep-17-2002 08:57:

im doing yr 11 next year as well and i chose
maths b.. prob math 2 or wateva in NSW
accounting
anc history
english
ITS... umm computer stuff to do with internet or something

biology- people say thatz the easiest of all science besides multi strand which is for complete dumb arses or so im told- no offence to neone who did it

P.E is compulsory but thatz good coz we are only just playing for P.E next year and not studying those biomechanical bullcraps like why does the ball curve back when u do a drop shot (who the fuk cares, sports is sports... it should be just fun)

and Religion is compulsory unfortunately for me yes u must of figured out, private Christian school

the only subject im really interested in is anc history... i find that stuff so interesting like... wars, wars and ummm wars? lol, nah anc history is just interesting (when u have a good teacher who doesn't teach in monotone that is) every other subject i chose because i would prob need some knowledge of that stuff if i was to do business as a course in uni... nothing too hard and nothing too easy, just what school should be... no hassle, hopefully easy sailing for me

For year 11 next year I will be doing:

3U English
3U Maths
Modern History
French
Legal Studies

Quite a few people think my life will be ruined because I'm not doing Chemistry But science isn't exactly something that appeals to me... all the subjects I've chosen are ones that I enjoy and get good marks in. I don't think I could stand doing a subject I hate. Although, I sort of want to do Drama now...arrgg, too many decisions.

I'm so glad my school doesn't make subjects compulsory. I feel sorry for all of you out there who were forced to do certain subjects! It's just not right I tell ya!

aha!
general maths advanced is the other one i did in year 11, i couldnt remember if it was a year 10 or 11 subject. thanks astroboy!

dj nomiz: yeah stick with history it kicks ass! in yr11 we did vietnam and got to read about aussie soldiers who survived being shot in the eye and then in the neck when they were attacked on patrol. i should have stuck with it in yr12 instead of doing physics ugh.

ascension: lol good call on the handwriting! i never remember what they tell me so it would be good if i could get a note or something but you cant fucking read what it says! and all doctors are like that!! wankers.

Posted by ascension on Sep-17-2002 15:37:

^^^

its doubley bad for me, bcos ive just started work in a pharmacy and im not overly confident with all the drugs just yet. I end up spending half my time trying to work out what the script says...

take note ppls... when your script takes AGES to get processed in a pharmacy... its most probably the doctors fault!!!!

have no fear, many GPs are now using computers to prescribe, although you still have to put up with the hospital docs (who aren't that bad )

Which means that you have to sit there for five minutes while the GP painstakingly single digit types out a drug name which is 113 characters long

BTW: Anyone in like year 7 or 8:

If your school offers Latin DO IT

I knew NO grammar apart from what I learned in year 7.

The hardest part is the unseen translation in the final exam, but you get to use a friggin disctionary, so if you have any linguistic intuition at all you just look up every single word and put it together so it makes sense.

I got a raw score of 33/50... which got scaled up to 48.8 = 49
Definitely played a big role in getting me into my course.

Now, that converts to like a 92 on vce (if it was my final year)
BUT because I smoke (B&H, NOT weed), I have eyebrow and tongue piercings, and I missed a couple of classes and a couple of assignments (not course required work mind you, I did all the IB required stuff, just didn't do certain bit of teacher assigned homework/essays whatever) the SCHOOL decided for ME that I was unable to do all year 12 subjects this year, they said I didn't do well enough in english cos I didn't do 2 essays (out of like 16 during the year or whatever) I had to do half yr 11 half yr 12 this year.

I was in the top 30% for yr 11 english, tell me how the fuck that made me unfit for yr 12 english argggh!!!

SOOOOOoooooo

this year I've been doing

The main difference is there's a lot of OUT of class work which isn't dependent on your score, but the teachers believe it's neccessary.

And I'm not inclined to a lot of out of school work, study Fine, essays No.

Basically the school's gone agro at me again cos of uniform (piercing) and missing some classes (the IB doesn't have an attendance requirement like vce/hsc) ...And I can't handle all the Assemblies, House Meetings (homeroom, roll call, whatever you school calls/called it), Uniform, No Smoking, Not being allowed to leave at lunch, too many things.

And I don't think I could handle ANOTHER year at Carey sooo

I'm Moving To Swinburne To Do Year 12 VCE (IB yr.11 can be converted to Units 1&2)

OMFG!!!

I need your input on this if possible ..

I'm gonna do Units 3&4 (YR.12 for hsc ppl)

English Literature
Psychology
Biology
French

Basically the difference is a school where I can drive there (I'll have my P's), I'll have no more than 4 hrs a day (they have 2 hour classes), I'll be able to smoke, I'll be able to get a coffee/lunch at glenferrie when I don't have classes, I'll be able to wear casual clothes, I get every wednesday off....Basically I won't be stressed out of my head getting chased down by employed teachers who's only job is to hound students..in other words LESS STRESSED

Do you think it's a good idea, I've almost decided to change, but either way there's No way I could do another year at Carey, and If I do go to swinburne I'm definately going to work, I AM NOT A DERO!!!!

Also I'm going to try and work at the same time to get some money, either casual work or be a "gay party" dj , it's only money guys...

Need feedback, should I switch to swinburne...

Sorry about the rant and rave, I'm not bitter, it's just that I should be finished this year

And the shame is that if I applied myself I could get over 90 very easily, but I just Can Not handle my school anymore (Swinburne is more like a uni environment)..

Sorry about the length, you're probably all
I just feel strongly about this stuff...

And I do know it's not the most important thing in the world, I'd prefer to just leave school now and work...BUT society says I need a piece of paper for uni, which I then will never use for the rest of my life Go Figure

Please give me feedback, PM me even if u want...

Don't worry you sound like a smart kid and its natural to be bitter. School ain't fair but neither is life. I went to Brighton Grammar and wasn't liked by admin either. If I was you I'd change to another private school and just plug some of those clear plastic thingies into my piercings. If you really can't stay and want to change schools, change to another private school. State schools are ok if you wanna get your VCE and be a tradesman, but in most of them the teaching is shithouse. I'm in the law faculty at Melb Uni and apart from country students (who get concessions) you could probably count the state school graduates on your fingers. A change might be a good idea for you (especially if the teachers don't like you - cos they're the ones that give you the marks). At BGS I was lucky not to get any of the teachers that I didn't get along with in year 12. It is important that your teachers like you (although ideally it shouldn't be that way). I can say pretty confidently that my y12 teachers would have tried to give me every mark they could when they were marking my stuff, and I'm sure ppl that didn't get along with them would have suffered mark-wise (there must be some subconscious effects when your marking the paper of someone you see as a little iece of shit who does nothing but annoy you).

But the main point is: Just chill and take it easy, loosen your principles a bit and compromise for a year. If they want you to tuck your shirt in and pull out your earings so be it, play their game and don't let it get to you. It may seem like a big deal now but in a years time you really won't give a shit - you'll realise how petty your concerns were. Uni life rocks (and from the sound of your IB curriculum it sounds like you'll find the workload easy). COncentrate all your energy into your studes.. good luck.

And how they managed to eat 10 course meals in one sitting (peacock feathers involved)

And how they wiped their asses in public toilets (communal sponge on a stick left to rest in a running stream of water between users)

And lots of other fun stuff (especially about Caligula).

Posted by webmeister on Sep-18-2002 12:07:

lol i remember that guy from 3u ancient history when i was at school

he was a fricken nut!!!

Posted by matt_a on Sep-18-2002 12:17:

Yeh I cant FREAKEN WAIT FOR ANCIENT HIST!
I LOVE IT!

But I almost couldnt do it right becuase

TO make up the lines for the timetable they have to make it so it suits the most number of people. There were only 2 people that wanted to do Anc Hist and Extension Maths
Me and another chick ()
So of course they put Anc Hist and Ex Maths on the same line which meant that I couldnt do 3U maths and anc hist. But I spoke to the dudes that makes the timetable and he said that because of the type of student I am ( ) they would allow me to do only 6/9 anc hist lessons every cycle (2 weeks) and Id have to catch up the rest!
But I am so prepared to do this for anc! I LOVE IT and I couldnt do modern as it was on the same line as french!

And then in YR 12 I think I'm gonna drop Physics and do Extension History. I CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pour anne onze, j'tudierai le franais parce que j'adore a. Mais, le franais est difficile.

Hell yeah! It's the most pointless subject you could ever do. You sit and talk about Romans all day and you don't even need to learn the vocab, cause they're already well integrated into the English language.

eg Pater (paternal) = Father
eg Ego (egocentric) = I
etc etc etc
