This a thread for AVB @ Story, let's keep it on that.

On that note, I'm stoked for this show. ASOT 2012 is sublime, and his 600 sets have rocked. I'm hoping he plays 4 hours, and if so, it'll be the best concert since NYE.

If you're not into Armin anymore, that's your deal, but why say it here? I'm into Armin more now that I was 10 years ago. It doesn't bother me that world's best DJ wants to book a nice gig. Like MSG, he gets to choose his venue, although I'd rather see him play at more large crowd-friendly venues, like a solo set at EDC. If Story wants $175 for a male ticket, I'll pay it because Armin's set is going to rock, and this is the best way to close out WMC.

As for my fellow TAs boasting about scalping their tickets, being a middleman selling goods has been a way to make money for millennium. I personally find it low class to scalp these tickets, like a drug dealer making money off his friends.

I can't wait for Miami and this show, and hope to see people there who love Armin's music as much as I do.

Enjoy the show...enjoy the venue...enjoy the music. He'll probably play a 3 hour set

Male tickets sold out.

Priceless....

Posted by Pantone199c on Mar-05-2013 22:50:

Female tickets started at $70 and only went up to $75. I expect more male tickets, they def. want to extort some more people

Yeah its finally showing that armin is in it for the money more than ever now. 12 asot shows, electro trance all over the place. i was hoping this would of been a 4 hour armin set with a supporting cast of TRANCE. instead w&w i wouldnt even go because they are on the lineup. No chance in hell those guys are getting my money with the way they treat the trance scene.

Ill leave it at this... Markus is playing probably 10+ hour set the first night of WMC on the Space Terrace and it started off at 30 dollars.

Still is and you can use a promo code to knock off $5 which makes the fuck you fee go away. The only way I will see Armin now is during an Armin Only when he plays a long ass set. That way he can get all the electro vomit out of the way like Markus does at the beginning of his marathons.

Into Armin more now than 10 years ago? Yikes man...Not trying to make fun of you but how? He was my favourite DJ and is the reason I began a local trance radio show to spread the awareness of trance music (and to learn to DJ as well), but I have been so disappointed in him over the past 24 months that I can't be forced to listen to an ASOT Episode or go see him live (no matter what the price is).

It has already been said in this thread multiple times, but I agree with everyone saying his best interests are now to make tons of money and not to support Trance. He is supporting popular commercial "fad" type of dance music. I wouldnt categorize him as a trance DJ at all anymore. Nothing about his live sets or ASOT shows puts one into a "state of trance." The man has completely lost his sense of how to program a set from start to finish that has a good flow and gets your feet moving to the sound of trance. It's just ear grinding bangers after bangers and anthems after anthems. And yes he does play a couple good tracks in his live sets and ASOT shows, but just a couple good tracks doesnt do it for me. I expect a lot more.

Anyhow, just wondering how his current sound is better to you than what he played 10 years ago?

The irony here is that people like you are the reason big trance DJs have changed their sound. You message board fans cannot be pleased unless everything goes your way: perfect venue, low price, "underground" crowd (an apparent euphemism for unemployed freaks), and a minimum BPM requirement with bare minimal vocals.

Reality check: Miami Beach is an expensive party city. I have been to WMC for many years now and would like to check out this event. It bothers me that my "fellow" TAers are trying to gouge other music lovers who want to check out this event.

On one hand I can understand your frustration that the mainstream sound has deviated from strict trance. But on the other hand it has to compete with other genres so the productions/tours are sustainable. High end venues will inevitably attract some of the 'models/bottles' type of crowd, but there are still plenty of us here in the silent majority who would like to see this event as fans. If you buy up all the presale tickets you will make sure that fans are priced out of the market and only VIPs attend. In other words, you will be the cause of models and bottles taking over this scene.

I will attend this show even if it means that I have to pay more because bitter people like you guys buy up all the early tickets. I can afford it. But it's a disgrace that you guys call yourself a community and then take advantage of people with different taste.
Maybe if you guys got real jobs instead of spending all day trolling on TA and spreading hatred you would be considerate of other people and their tastes. Tolerance goes a long way. Stop acting like a bunch of junior high emo punks.

We are the reason Trance DJ's have changed their sound ? u must be kidding right ?
The reason is because corporate America got their hands on EDM and turn it into a freaking business. u bashing these guys for trying to profit from reselling tix to this shitty show ? how about Armin and that prick David Lewis for charging at least 60K for that gig ?
do u really think Armin cares about the music and his fans ? how about the club for charging 16k for a table ?
This year tickets are $175 bucks, next year be prepared to pay $250 cause they know there r idiots out there who will pay that much.

you probably belong to that YOLO generation who cant seem to find MOLLY

Armin is a very talented individual and an even better business man !! he is not all smiles, jesus poses and hearts, ppl who knows him on a personal level say he could be the biggest dick. there is a DJ u probably never heard of before named JOHN ASKEW who could teach a thing or two to Mr. Van Buren about being truth to what you believe in.

I'll shut up know cause im just an unemployed fuck

Exactly

Posted by element-y on Mar-06-2013 06:44:

sorry to be that guy - but find me a bunch of 'ladies' at these trance events that dont have a top 10 dj.
Hell during WMC, find me people that go to them in comparison to other shows.
Its such a competitive week/2 weeks that people wait to get there and will spend on anything as its their big spending vacation.
It isnt a matter of the type of person in the crowd.
These are more than likely people from out of state who saved up.
Paying that price is just the experience of seeing it when already there.
Its like going to Vegas.

This is the reason why I have so much respect for TIESTO, he said he was done playing Trance
and it was time to explore new sounds a new genre perhaps, but Armin keeps portraying himself as a TRANCE dj when he is not anymore, even Above & Beyond changed the name of their Trance Around the world podcast.

I couldn't agree more about how dj sets nowadays have no flow at all, no journey.

I agree about everything in the thread besides this.

The only reason Tiesto moved from trance was for more money, simple as that. Tiesto is a sellout, he doesn't give a shit about music, he only cares about flying around in a private jet and snorting lines of coke off bitches titties. Soon as trance money dried up, he hit the road.

Even though Armin definitely plays music in support of his label that usually isn't what I, or most weathered trance fans enjoy, I can see he actually cares and respects the music for what it is, even if he's trying to stay relevant by modernizing his sound. In the end I'd take Armin's trouse over Tiesto's farty car alarm music a million times over if I had to pick between the two. That guy is about as washed up as can be.

Posted by diabloargentino on Mar-06-2013 14:49:

everyone is free to do what they want - if you guys want to spend $200 to see armin spin the same trouse tracks he's been playing for the past few months - go for it. i honestly hope you have an amazing time. if it means being with your friends, meeting some girls etc then cool.

but for a lot of us on the board, we prefer our DJs to have some integrity and to you know.. DJ? take us on a musical journey - show us sounds we've never heard before. and preferably, not for $200 lolz.

the reason these shows are so expensive is because people are willing to pay for them. we all have some businessmen inside of us right? i'm not going to feel bad about flipping tickets to some yolo noob bcuz thats not going to screw some legit TA fans. hey, anytime i have a ticket that a TA person needs, i also give it to them at cost.

the only good thing armin does these days is the 2nd hour of ASOT - always good, uplifting shit. but then live, he plays that new D54353 fat# whatever track he did with W&W. LOL. i don't get why beatport, etc labels these DJs as trance just because a few years ago they produced some trance tracks. they play straight electro house. whatever, lets put the genre train away choo choo.

if you're looking to go to parties where girls are at and you go to a trance show, you're doing it wrong brah. come to treehouse sunday night for $20 for sven vath/cocoon and i'll show you some dope, european girls.

we don't mean to impose on the big time armin supporters, we're just trying to help you realize that you're being taken advantage of/cheated/lied to. it's all smoke and mirrors.

this was 10 years ago. and you're telling me you like current armin more?

Posted by Pantone199c on Mar-06-2013 15:03:

Also, where's Sander van Doorn? Gareth Emery? Less than a year ago these two idiots were "trancefamily" members. Now they are apart of the electroshitfamily.

Hahah!!! you guys are spot on! not going to lie, I regularly tune into ASOT for the last hour or 45 minutes. the other week he played a few tracks from mental asylum! was quite shocked. then he said the label rules! i was even more shocked.

I do about the same thing. I think it's because we know of Armin's greatness that we are so pissy with this type of stuff. People just think because you are a fan you have to 100% support everything they do, fuck that. Live your own life make your own decisions don't let some guy on a radio show making millions tell you what is what. I get that people see him as the "President" of trance but think for yourself!

You are absolutely right Tiesto moved cause of the money and shit but my point is that he came out and said he was done with TRANCE obviously he tried to sugarcoated saying it was to try different sounds, end of a phase, all that BS but we all know the reason was $$$ and its okay to sell out and make more money but be honest about it and dont portray uself like the tranceGOD u r really not. Anyway too much hate on a guy who I happen to have in my avatar picture

Ten years ago: When I first heard Communication I fell in love. It was a something that Id never heard before. More importantly, it was a song that made me feel something, but made that feeling change. That change in emotion was what made me want to dance.

I think your question goes to the heart of how I define trance. I sure wouldnt define it as wiki does, and maybe TAs should edit that site a bit more. My primary definition would be active emotional change. This has been trance for me when I first heard it, and remains to this day.

Now: My three favorite tracks are Elements of Nature by Rank 1 and M.I.K.E., We Are by Hazem Beltagui & Allan V., then Humming the Lights by Gaia. Not a huge fan of D# Fat, but it still has a grove, and I can still dance to it.

What Armin and the other top DJs play is what I consider trance. Todays trance has more of the active change that I've always liked. Sure, there's new beats included, but it makes me feel and want to dance. I think more than it used it. Electro, house, dubstep, dnb, feel dead to me. But when a dash of these beats are brought into trance, I can dig it.

I try not to compare Communication to Elements of Nature, or ASOT 2004 to ASOT 2013. But, the latter makes me want to dance as much as the former. Its not going to be what we used to hear, but I think Id love the tracks I love today if I heard then 10 years ago.
