I believe I read somewhere (and can't be assed to do the research right now) that Taurine is in energy drinks to help your body metabolize cold caffeine.

lol, did you even read any of your links?

Neither innocuous nor toxic, energy drinks seem safe for adults when consumed in moderation

Side effects related to energy drinks appear to be largely due to the caffeine content

etc.

ie nothing to substantiate the 'energy drinks are poison' query s-j had.

Not to mention most of the negative factors mentioned in those articles revolve around ingesting too much caffeine, which isn't exclusive to energy drinks. Seems to me any rise in hospitalisations and health conditions in relation to energy drinks is more to do with people treating them as soft drinks or smashing dozens of Jaegerbombs on a night out than the intrinsic properties of the drinks themselves. Which is more or less what I suspected. And yes, they are ridiculously sugary, but that doesn't warrant the health warnings being thrown around in this thread.

Anyway, I'm going to try and go the whole week without any caffeine. It's definitely prompting me to go to bed earlier, if only because I can't justify staying up until 1am on a work night with "I'll just neck a Red Bull tomorrow and get through it."

Sugar Free Red Bull and Red Bull Zero both have 0 sugar and very low calories. The sugar argument is moot if you stick to "diet" red bull as it were.

Posted by Spacey Orange on Mar-12-2013 23:47:

Tastes great and sugar free. Sure it will make you look a little feminine, but if you listen to EDM chances are people already think you are. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

i drink usually 2 green teas and a coffe in the morning. I am extremely tolerant to caffeine i've ben caffeine driven for years. Last year for example i had to work in the morning, generally i had to train in the evening and i went clubbing/djing at some nights. A lot of days i just slept for 3-4 hours i lost 9 kg in months had to left sport in order to have some time to sleep. To do this i drunk 2 cans of Monster (1Liter) which was potentially dangerous... i never had any issue though, but some people experience arrythmias if they drink 2-3 cans of red bull which is like one can of monster or so...

This year i've left clubbing on mid week days, that was the real problem. But best nights were on tuesday or thursday...

And oh well about taurine... this was used by the US army in Vietnam to increase the concentration, awareness and this short of things, probably the amount of taurine the soldiers were given was beyond aceptable for a human body but they all ended being crazy killing each others and specially being "too brave" in the sense of "and what if they are firing 1000 rounds directly to us at this moment, let's knife them, followed by a brave heart scene and a carnage"

I suppose now the amount of it is minimal but well if they set a limit of 3 cans/day and you plan to drink it regularly i'd at least not pass this limit for your own good.

kind makes you wonder why they have apparantly killed people and are banned in many european countries. If it tastes like battery acid, and looks like battery acid , it probably isn't very good for you. There is no actual long term studies. Why fuck around with shit that not only tastes awful but will probably make you infertile in the long run.

Posted by WittyHandle on Mar-13-2013 03:41:

Clearly forming an opinion on what has "apparently" happened coupled with a hyperbolic comparison to acid is a reasonable approach. If you don't like it, that's one thing, but claiming it's deadly is another.

The only health issues I've heard confirmed are due to the caffeine content. Anyone with heart issues should definitely be concerned. All others should learn their boundaries.

You dont see any contradiction here? Like your links said, theyre not a big deal and the side effects youd get from them are likely to occur with ANY caffeine delivery system.

I dont give a shit what people do. just as long as they dont talk bollocks about things they have zero supporting evidence for.

I still don't know if it was kind of funny or surprizing that you as a daily visitor here didn't know Jay wasn't that old.
It wouldn't surprise me if Jay gets less grumpy in time.

Well, you might assume that someone in their '30s wouldn't act as childishly as you, but welcome to the Internet. And it's not surprising you can't present any evidence for your case when you lack the investigative skills to even click on my profile and see my date of birth.

All of these posts not lauding black coffee. They are irrelevant.

Hrm, I would try it, but I'm not sold on the removal of the bitter aftertaste; I rather like that about black coffee. But I think bitter might be one of my favourite sensations- IPAs, black coffee, >90% cocoa chocolate, kale, etc. are pretty frequent staples for me.

Best thing you can drink to stay awake is tea. Green tea if possible i drink a mixture of 2 varieties of green tea + a plant that gives you 3 times the amount of vitamin C than oranges. You can drink 8 glasses of this a day that is not bad for you at all.

-Good for liver (and if you drink as much as i do it's a good advantage)
-Removes toxines
-Burns fat and reduces hunger.
-Prevents several types of cancer.

Yeah, how about you post some scientific evidence to back up all your claims.

Or is that not what this is about?
