Yeah, given the layout of Circus, sectioning off into smaller clubs would be a terrible idea. But it is very much possible to get a small crowd in a huge space dancing the entire night. I know it because it is my specialty.

It's a terrible experience paying for parking and then walking into an empty club that never even begins to fill up, even if the DJ is from the other side of the world. One strategy might be to book special event EDM nights at Circus. Bring in three good DJ's who are not married to Insomniac, promote it well, and chances are much better there will be a good crowd. Guess that's not the way most clubs work though, instead they have a promoter who tries in vain to fill a huge club against the odds every single week. It's also more of a gamble for the promoter, since if the club doesn't fill and three DJ's must be paid, then it's a financial washout. Whatever the Palladium does seems to be working very well, though. I know it's a newly remodeled club, but I still hear all kinds of complaints about the sound, this and that...not everyone's going to agree on what a "great" club is. Then again, from what I hear, the Palladium is scheduled to be ripped down and turned into condos, so is it really doing that well? At least it has a good reputation. Anyway, I think such EDM special event nights hosted by LMD might go over well at Circus, maybe once every few months. People get tired of going to the same clubs over & over, and everyone here seems to be saying they would like to see EDM back at Circus. And if it's not possible due to the way clubs, promoters, etc. work, then how does the Palladium pull it off? I'm sure there must be a way.  |

Circus has undergone significant improvements- the decor and set-up is quite different, there is lots more lighting especially from the stage to evoke a massive "festival"-like feel with lots of those super bright spotlights that are all the rage (more than Avalon or Exchange has, I counted). Also, 360haus, the new Saturday event producers there, have totally revamped the Circus sound system with the EAW Avalon Series speakers that are in Avalon and the sound is much more enveloping and crisper than ever before. There are new VIP booths and the whole club feels much less expansive and overly big.
Full disclosure- I produce some of the gay special events held at the New Circus Disco so I am privy to the changes 360haus has done to the club.

correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Circus always have the EAW system in place? What separates the "Avalon EAW system" is the setup used at the location ie... bass bins on floor level while mids/high raised above. I know Circus used a "stacked" or "wall" setup.

Yeah, Circus already had an EAW Avalon system.
And the LED curtain isn't new.
I just see a little decor and some spotlights, nothing overly special. (DJ booth could be surrounded by LEDs or monitors, you could use more of a variety of lightings. Plenty of things could be done that's more of a revamp)
Please note a number of people here used to practically live at Circus and knows every little detail of what it had before.

Hahaha, I guess I should have been more clear in my response detailing the changes at the NEW Circus. I was trying to not be overly technical in explaining the new sound, but you guys are such "pros" at what Circus has installed, I need to explain it further. Regarding the new sound, you guys are right, Circus has had the EAW Avalon Series speakers for some time. This is considered a top-notch, state-of-the-art bangin' club sound system. However, as many know, one of the big complaints in the recent few years is that something is wrong or "off" with the sound. When 360haus took over Saturday nights in January this year, they brought in 2 sets of professional sound engineers to completely analyze and fix the problems. Basically, they found issues with the vast majority of the speakers that were in place, ranging from blown tweeters to speakers being wired out-of-phase. 100% of the speaker arrays in the main room have had something now done to them; whether it be new tweeters, rewiring, etc. Several of the speaker arrays have also been moved to place them in optimal positions for enveloping 360 degree sound without all those "dead" spots that were formerly present. These sound engineers are the same ones that have done the engineering for some of the most well-known festivals and clubs around, so they knew what they were doing; plus 360haus even hired a 2nd sound engineering company to come and double-check everything with intricate measuring devices to ensure it got a 2nd "thumbs-up" that the sound was now up to the standard of a world-class venue. So essentially, yes, the speaker "shells" from the original system are still there, but the inner actual speaker assemblies, coils, etc. have been largely re-tuned, replaced, etc so you are going to get a very different sound experience at the New Circus compared to the way it sounded just a few months ago. Hope that detailed explanation helps.

That sounds alot more descriptive.
The original sound install at Circus was known as a flagship system from EAW and was considered one of the best sounding clubs in the world for quite some time. This was before the big wall was taken down (dumbest idea in the history of my clubbing days)
Anyhow, since the big wall was opened the "sound-field" was corrupted and has never EVER been good since. So, I hope these engineers they hired are as capable as you have presented them to be. If so, then the club should sound pretty damn good. As the EAW Avalon system is fantastic, when properly working and expertly tuned.
thanks for the description. that does clear up a lot of misconceptions and I would be more interested in checking out a Saturday night at Circus. Glad to see the new in-house promoters are taking care of business.

When's the last time you really saw me rip into anything on here? I'm past that moment of my life. I have higher priorities. I just try to enjoy what I can since I can't get out nearly as much anymore (I do a couple times a month still, at least).
Also, when I do it I may come off as a d*ck but at least I'm a constructive one. Unlike some others. :-)
BTW, when the scene is in full effect and things are hopping it's often because of us old farts. The best nights are when you see a wide age-range.
Also, Circus has always had plenty of old farts. Usually doing some crazy motion...

I like Haus and I love what they have done. I also like the music that has been played the times I've gone. House is a feeling and it makes me want to dance! It would be nice if more people would come out and check it out instead of waiting for certain things to happen.

I think Circus could be a good venue for the new LMD team up with Motive and targeting a larger audience with a broader range of music/crowd. Motive has a few large events under them, problem is their fanbase is kind of a bunch of complaining etards. They seem to complain about everything on Facebook. If it's not one thing, it's another.
I just hope the trance stays around.

I think everyone should come out regardless of age. It's all about attitude, enjoying music, and having fun... not what others think or say.
