ahhhh! Hip Hop Day! *shudders*

But to choose between Hip Hop Day and Nikki Webster...that's a decision I hope I never have to make. To listen to either of them would be torture.

Today this 13 year old wanker saw me listening to GU022 and said "oh you're listening to that techno doof doof wog music again"...now it's uneducated rascals like that who are the product of Video Hits. I'm going a party this weekend where the organiser is planning to play 'trance' in the form of Scooter- The Logical Song all night...*sighs*

The image that the majority of people around here have of dance music is quite disconcerting.

I saw that Trance Central ad on TV, and my first thought was "great, it's about time". It sounded good to me, e.g. 4 String - Into the night, that's a nice track.

Chill out a bit people, this is nowhere near as bad as the music of the early Wild FM crap, nor R & B.

What's wrong with Ian Van Dahl? Have you heard her track "Nights on Java"? I just listened to it just a few minutes ago, and it is top quality, I heard it first at Altitude 003 on 13 July at Dendy and didn't know what it was... I thought it was a track by Dirk Dierickx (aka Push, aka M.I.K.E.). I took note of the time it was played and when the tracklists were posted I found out it was "Nights on Java". And yes Ian Van Dahl is female.

Make sure you have heard enough from an artist before making a judgement on them. Even then, your judgement may change when the artist come up with new stuff, so it's best not to be so "anal" about it all, this stuff is not as bad as R & B.

A couple of months ago I bought:

Vengaboys - Uncle john from jamaica
Vengaboys - Kiss (when the sun don't shine)

Most of us would agree they're cheesy pop tracks, and you'd probably ignore them if you saw them in the music store. But for a few of us who are actually aware that it is possible to find cheesy pop tracks that have been remixed into a top-notch trance track, we look at the tracklist just in case. So what did I find?

Vengaboys - Uncle john from jamaica (M.I.K.E. remix)
Vengaboys - Kiss (when the sun don't shine) (Airscape remix)

Both of them are awesome tracks, and they are worth much more than the $1 each that I paid for the single CDs.

Uncle john
To extract: tranceaddict

So nowadays I always look at the tracklist to CD singles of "cheesy" tracks, because there could be good remixes.

Actually Vengaboys - Kiss (Airscape Mix) is a real quality tune .. every 2-3 months or so there is a thread on Music Discussion about the worst tune remixed into a good tune. Usually about 1/2 the people say this tune

Posted by resisted on Sep-29-2002 06:24:

if your up this early in the morning why not listen to some live radio from overseas via the net?

Posted by webmeister on Sep-29-2002 06:49:

cos 56k ownz me

Posted by escee on Sep-29-2002 06:56:

and even with adsl you cant due to the huge amount it downloads :/

Basically for a 128k stream its something around 1meg per minute.

Posted by resisted on Sep-29-2002 07:06:

fair enough.
well those lucky enough on unlimited downloads can still enjoy it.

The M.I.K.E. remix of of Vengaboys - Uncle john from jamaica is awesome too. Click on the link in my previous post to find out for yourself.

I agree that quite a few Ian Van Dahl tracks are cheesy, but listen to Nights on java, it's slick top-quality like Push/M.I.K.E. style, no hint of cheese in there at all.

I actually checked the tracklist of that Trance Central compilation, and the stupid thing is the tracks are all radio edits, even though some of the tracks wuold be good if they were full versions. So yeah, that Trance Central compilation does suck.

These days I now look out for quality unmixed compilations. I got "21st Century Trance" volumes 1 and 2, with each volume having 3 CDs. Some excellent tracks that they have are: Rapid Eye - Alderaan (Olmec Heads remix), CRW - I Feel Love (Dumonde Remix), Sunscreem - Exodus (Fire & Ice remix).

Ian van Dahl is not anyone - just an AKA. It's really Christophe Chantzis and that other one....Eric Vanspauwen. I know Christophe is a decent producer (has remixed tiesto i think).

Posted by Trance-Canada on Oct-01-2002 06:07:

yeah it sad that they dont play trance videos... but there is this one tv station called "bpm tv" and they do

Posted by Simon00 on Oct-01-2002 09:27:

I wouldn't have minded being at trance energy 2000 when tiesto played vengaboys kiss airscape mix, it's an awesome track. When i saw the tracklisting i didn't believe at first it was a vengaboys track but sure enough it was.

I do, it's called cheese, they take all the "cool" catchy sounding riffs and throw them all into one song and there you have it

btw, LOL @ munchkins

Posted by Ves on Oct-01-2002 13:09:

Yes, it's true that some incredibly cheesy tracks can be transformed into something great. Vengaboys- Kiss (Airscape Remix) being the best example of this. And Nights on Java is actually a good tune! Which is surprising as it comes from the same people who made atrocious tracks like Reason, Castles in the Sky and Will I.
