any reviews? Were A&B able to convert dance music to "real" music?

Posted by jdub889 on Oct-14-2013 02:24:

yep! great concert imo and a good crowd. only heard one 'where are all the lasers??' actually, my favorite part was when the singer they brought in to do the oceanlab songs (wasn't justine) forgot the words to satellite and the crowd helped her out, and gave her a standing ovation at the end of the song. very respectful and not at all the rude ptot crowd that everyone was afraid of.

Can easily say this is one of the best performances I was at ever.
Very well planned out track selection and composition incorporating the instruments and vocalists.
Was a very respectful crowd. Mature, well dressed, and no candy garbage.
Singers were great, the musicians amazing, and the show an experience not to be missed. If only this were a tour.

I'll be curious to listen to recordings of when Skrillex came out and played guitar with A&B tonight.

Their stuff is quite melodic so it translates very well. Nicely arranged. Great show.

not an A&B fan, but a fan of their acoustic music. thoroughly enjoyed their songs in a "real" music way. the crowd was well aware what they were in for although there were some people who screamed obnoxiously at times. I would see them again in this setting but you won't see me going nuts for their dj sets.

Exactly. Not a fan of their dj sets recently.
Put me to sleep actually.
But the acoustic show with all the instruments and amazing vocals was amazing

Yes, shocking.

I was wrong, thank god.

Many kids/folks were out front selling extra tickets for pennies on the dollar. I only saw one pair of furry leggings/boots.

But seriously, one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Hearing these songs with an orchestra was ...magical. I hope they take the show on the road, as I would actually go see this same exact show again. Very very well done.

I was surprised at the make-up of the crowd. Plenty of people in their 30s and 40s. Much more like a regular Greek show than a show at the Palladium. I guess A&B's audience is far more broad than I thought. There was even a 60 something guy in front of us nodding to the tunes.

Flew out for the weekend with my gf and her bff and my friend. Caught Pete Tong at The Yost on Friday, then we did the touristy Hollywood thing until nightfall where we made our way to this.

Their Saturday 2 hour performance went by way too fast. As my friend and I were in the Hospitality room prior to A&B taking to the stage, we saw Skrillex and wondered what he was doing there. Later in the evening we figured it out when Black Room Boy came on and he was on the bass guitar. Nice venue, although there were about 10 open seats just a row behind us from people that probably didnt make it to get their guestlist tickets.

The only negative I have, is that they replaced Justine Suissa and Richard Bedford with new vocalists. They hit the mark, but I was hoping to hear it sungfrom the originals.

I thought Skrillex only performed with A&B on Sunday?

Posted by Yookeroo on Oct-17-2013 23:58:

Any idea when the Bluray & CD will be released?

Right:
quote:
From Billboard Magazine
Skrillex had attended the Saturday night show and according to Above & Beyonds camp had enjoyed it so much, he asked if he could contribute to Sunday night. The group readily agreed, reportedly around 3am, leading to a swirl of gossip in the unusually large pre-show industry crowd backstage (which perplexingly included rapper Azealia Banks).

Not sure what was perplexing about Azealia Banks being there.

But this quote captures the night pretty well:
quote:
From Billboard Magazine
At times, the performance recalled Zero 7 or Portisheads Roseland NYC Live album from 1998. It was orchestral and ethereal while still rooted in the world of electronica.
