-- The Ring...scariest movie ever?

Cheesy
I feel like I might get flamed for expressing my true opinion of this movie, which is so contrary to what a majority of the people who saw it think of it, but here goes...
The plot was indeed complex, and I applaud it for that, and the special effects were incredible (lke when the girl climbs out of the tv and such). The placement of the ring itself as a single-frame splice at key moments of the film (like Fight Club) was also an excellent idea.
BUT - The movie was cheesy at best with a few surprising moments that made you jump out of your seat, but nothing scary in the sense of fright. The beginning really didn't draw me in at all, and made me think more along the lines of "WTF??? The tape killed her? Riiiiiiiiight." For this same reason, the ending was also horrible for me. I mean, it's a really cool idea and all to make the audience interact with the movie by implying that now THEY have a week left to live, but I just left thinking "That's so fucking stupid - what a waste of time."
Responses, please!
I saw this movie a week or two ago and i must say its about as scary as 'Gone in 60 seconds', its a good film yeah but not the scariest ever.
The scariest film i remember watching was the first 'Scream' movie, well i was around 12 at the time so maybe thats why.
the movie made me jump numerous times but i dont think it was the scariest movie out there although im too chicken to watch the japanese version in the dark. The movie sorta spoiled itself and i was just waiting for someone to say "I know what you did last summer . . ." in the phone.
I think movies that involve religion are the scariest movies for me.
i am a scary movie fan, i live for horror flicks, id seen the preview for the jap version quite sum time ago now, and i was absolutely dieing to see it,,,,, the i saw the americanised version.... and i must say this is one of the biggest dissappointments ive ever seen in a film....... im not by any means saying this is crap.... but the previews lead you to beleieve that its gonna be a heck of a lot better than it is.... 4/10

| Originally posted by Citizen X Finally someone with my viewpoint. This movie is a fucking fairy tale for kids. I was laughing while watching this film and my friends kicked me out of the room because they were actually scared. The movie "Darkness Falls" is very similar to this. Same stupid idea about some ghosts flying around. I am not saying this is a bad movie but I am shocked to find out that people above the age of 12 found this scary. I think a true scary movie is one that appeals to our realistic fears. This was just my opinion and you can watch whatever you want. |
i thought the ring was the scariest movie i saw... and its really good when u understand everything and why this and that happens and what it means.
