No I'm not saying that for me it's no problem because I make a lot of chillhop music.

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Sep-09-2016 20:41:

I'm not sure you entirely understand the point of this thing.

Posted by Mr Game+Watch on Sep-11-2016 03:13:

So far I took a listen to Jack's set while cleaning... some swell tunes in there, the peak of the set was definitely that Bicep/Simian Mobile Disco jam.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Sep-17-2016 15:29:

Cheers! I'm in Italy at the moment, I'll check out Nick's mix when I get back next week.

Posted by the-sixth on Sep-19-2016 10:18:

Enjoyed all three but so far have to list System-J at the top for me, just personal preference I enjoy that style more than the others.

Nice one, Jack. Listened to this during a long morning run on the beach. This set progressed nicely, as I thought it was going to be suuuuper deep and slow the whole time, but it started picking up the energy as it plodded along. Really liked this sound, made me feel like I was in a dark industrial city. Also the cover is brilliant. Well done.

Cheers Nick. I'm back from my trip to Italy and finally got around to listening to yours this afternoon. It's completely different to the vast majority of your mixes, which are generally about mad energy, but I really enjoyed it. The flow is excellent, the tunes absolutely lush, and there are no wobbles really. Just really good music presented in a pleasing sequence.

You've also given me some new artists to start digging into, as I don't know nearly enough jazzy hip-hop and have rinsed Nujabes to death by now. I'm halfway through that Esbe album as we speak. So you've also fulfilled that other role of the DJ - the select-ah bringing new music to the listener. Nice one, brother.

Posted by ziptnf on Sep-23-2016 22:04:

Really happy to read that review, Jack. I appreciate the kind words. I figured this would be fresh music to your ears. You know, mixing high-energy psytrance, breaks, and all the other psychedelic sub-genres can be quite difficult. But for whatever reason, making this mix felt really natural to me. Perhaps I should dabble into sounds like this more often.

I've actually made a few other hip-hop mixes, the links are in my set archive. Thanks again for the listen!

Posted by Lews on Sep-25-2016 12:02:

I think you should definitely dabble some more, Nick.

For the record, my mix is going to be very late

I'm not allowing myself to dig anymore, but I'm having some difficulty actually tracking down a couple songs I feel a passionate need to play

Posted by ziptnf on Sep-26-2016 01:37:

I am considering implementing a 3 week extension for some of our stragglers. I have sent private messages out to each of the remaining DJ's who have not submitted a mix (except you Lews, since you have posted regular status updates ).

If you guys still need some more time, please take an extra 3 weeks. Let's make it October 23rd.

Nick your mix is FIRE.

Jamming to this so hard

Posted by Sand Leaper on Sep-30-2016 23:14:

Sorry about this, guys. I just finished recording my mix now, but playing it back, the sound quality sounds like something out of an extremely poor internet radio stream. Not sure what's gone wrong here, might be something with the recording software I used. I'll look into it after I get some sleep, and then re-record as soon as I can this weekend.

This is actually my first mix ever on actual gear that I'll be sharing with people, and I was really happy with the take I had recorded as well. Pissed.

Posted by Sand Leaper on Oct-02-2016 02:27:

Well, looks like I won't be recording anything from my decks until I buy an external USB soundcard for my laptop. I won't be able to get hold of one of those for a little while, so I threw the mix together on my laptop instead. Been dragging this out long enough as it is. I'll check some of the other entries and deliver some feedback later this week.

Anyway, my sunday afternoons are usually boring as hell. Here's the sound of one that wasn't, much thanks to dark blonde hair and a handful of sustained Norwegian sunshine.

Fort Romeau - Kingdoms [100% Silk - SILK022]
Jonsson/Alter - En Livfull Skildring (Move D's Curved Version) [Soundcloud]

Matthiew Wieck - Cleared Direct [Altered Moods - AMR-30R]
Trulz & Robin - Min Kjre [Full Pupp ‎ FP 053]
Eric Ericksson - Let Them Know (Dub) [Freerange - FR168]
Isole - Raum2 [Pampa PAMPA CD 003]
Makam - Than Sadet [Dekmantel DKMNTL 037]
Hubert Daviz - Falling [Up My Alley - xxx]
Oma & Amberflame - Tropic of Capricorn [Claremont 56 - C56054]
Antwon - 100k [Anticon - ABR0159]
Ana Caprix - Burnt Skin [Soundcloud]
Starfoxxx - No Text No Call [Donky Pitch ‎ DKY018]
Hydrabadd - Ice Chasm (813 Remix) [Paradisiaca - PRC 007]
Shlohmo - Beams [True Panther Sounds - TRUE-111]

My review of this mix mutated wildly as the set went on, Jan. For the first fifteen minutes it sounded like you weren't a million miles from my set and I was really enjoying it. By halfway through I was still enjoying it, but I was wondering where it was going. By the time you went from 100k to Burnt Skin I felt like you'd successfully wrought an unlikely flow and vibe out of the flux of style and tempo.

And then the last three tracks happened. Oh dear. To my intolerant ears it constituted a sudden and unfortunate hand-brake turn out of the beatific Sunday afternoon atmosphere, straight into oncoming lanes of obnoxious blogtronica. It was all going so well, too.

Posted by Sand Leaper on Oct-04-2016 18:35:

And I thought I wasn't really into the Soundcloudsters...

In all seriousness, I do like music from that particular sphere when it is as stripped down and ultra melodic as this. I felt that these tunes weren't that offensive in terms of mutilated rap accapellas, stupid noises and overall squeaky cleanliness, but there you go. I don't think Shlohmo can really be lumped in with the blogosphere producers, though, as popular as he may be with the people who listen to that stuff. I feel he belongs more with guys like Flying Lotus, in that they have more complete artistic profiles and have a consistent physical discography.

Anyway, many thanks for giving this a listen. I'd say the fact that I can get you fully into the flow AND piss you off during one set is a pretty healthy sign as far as my mixing goes.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Oct-04-2016 18:52:

There was a track earlier in the set that had a very Brainfeeder vibe to it, to the extent I double-checked the tracklist. I'm guessing it was the Hubert Daviz cut.

At any rate, I'll be amazed if you don't find my set too homogeneous for your liking.

Deep House Mix - 10-13-2016

Fort Romeau in the area. I'll be amazed if he doesn't crop up in Lews' set as well.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Oct-16-2016 17:24:

Enjoyed that Luke, it went pretty much as I expected it to but fit the bill nicely. The flow was very smooth, no problems with the mixing and the music fit together well. That Nova Nova track was particularly lovely - I'm listening to La Chanson De Roland right now as a result. I can't believe that track is from 1999!

Posted by Lews on Oct-16-2016 19:12:

Basically same as above, though the Micah remix of that Bent track rubbed me the wrong way for some reason. Not necessarily an awful track, but it felt a bit out of place to me, or at least I didn't enjoy hearing it. The rest of it was all very enjoyable, though. A nice weekend listen indeed! Though you did use two tracks I was planning on using when my mix finally comes out

Posted by djdk on Oct-22-2016 23:05:

Ah sorry for the complete radio silence, life has been insane recently. I finally managed to get something together tonight, but Ill have to upload and share in the morning so technically miss the deadline but thats cool right Nick :

Posted by ziptnf on Oct-23-2016 01:11:

Just take another week or two guys

I haven't heard back from Floorfiller at all so odds are good he will be the only one to not submit anything.

Posted by Lews on Oct-23-2016 21:44:

I'll get mine out soon, everything's done but the actual mixing and uploading; unfortunately some health-related issues have delayed me a bit.

Ah the traditional English tradition of the Sunday Roast, at this time of year there is no better thing to do on a Sunday afternoon than share meat and wine with friends. Often starting slowly as everyone convienes in the pub of choice, can quickly get quite raucous before, almost as quickly as it started the foods gone and no-one wants to order another bottle so youre ejected back out into the cold to contemplate the already starting hangover and the fact that you have to get up for work in the morning.
