haha, "Radioaktivitaet" the silly germans.

But synthpop, or new wave, is by far nothing to be ashamed of. I think it was a truly good and sincere musical movement that started off in britain, and did a lot for the scene. I still love new order, simple minds, modern english, and the like. "Cheese" usually has no feeling/emotion; it's empty, and it's like enjoying watching horror films.

And ATB's 9pm is still really good!! ..wasn't it

and I remember one more, this is huge: Aqua - Calling You
how good is the synth bit?? So ashamed though!

oh well if Iio - Rapture (AvB Remix) is cheese i'm a cheeseaddict...

Who really cares what is cheeze or not. Every song some one thinks is cheezy another person loves that song. Everybody loves at least one cheeze song so hoo gives what song or how cheezed it is?

I know what you mean. Never listened to Aqua though, couldn't get past that awful tune on the radio, totally killed the eurodance scene for me.

Whenever I hear Kraftwerk I go wow, these are the guys who invented synthpop music. Catchy lyrics & melodies, very simple, but they did it before the 80's and anyone else who thought of the idea to add synthesiser driven pop music to a dance beat.

The three synthpop groups I think are often ignored are Pet Shop Boys, Anything Box & Information Society. Synthpop often stands out against new wave in that there aren't as many guitars and the vocals are more detached/melancolic. Oh and of course it has lots of neat synthwork

Some of the classic cheese had its day. 9pm ('Til I Come), Sandstorm, Better Off Alone, and many others aren't that bad; the rampant airplay just made them so.

But there is one that takes the cake. One debauchery of electronic dance music so low that I feel it is truly a disgrace. One track that is so bad that it seems to have been designed a horrid wretch. The chessiest cheese that ever cheesed. Ever.

Yes, every record of

DJ Jean - The Launch

deserves a ritual burning.

It really is that bad. Really. That. Bad.

I hear it was included on Hell: The Soundtrack.

Posted by Micheline on May-10-2003 23:10:

whats wrong with you people??
every genre has "cheese" tunes.
i know a lot of trance tracks that are being spinned by the big djs and still with its catchy simple melody they are cheese.

most of the songs you mention are COMERCIAL DANCE MUSIC.
some of them are little bit cheesy. Not all of them. They are hard to make as every other music out there.

Posted by contemplator on May-10-2003 23:21:

Cheese is good, some people like simplicity once in a while, some people like catchy tunes also, who are we to critisize. Some of my favorite cheese includes:

Nu Romantix - mad world (Pulsedriver RMX)
Cosmic gate - melt to The Ocean
Lautsprecher - Ritchtig Laut
DJ's @ Work - Someday
4 Clubbers - Children (Future Breexe vs. Junkfood Junkies RMX)

AMEN,brother!

And Rapture is a vewry good tune,it's just too bad that Ministry Of Sound licensed it,pushed it into the charts and it got sooo overplayed.I mean look at all those amazing remixes by Deep Dish,Creamer + K,Riva,Armin etc.I'd bet several ppl on here have danced their asses off to one of these remixes.Rapture is NOT cheese IMO.

Dunno ill admit it..

i like 'cheese'. i like 4 strings [take me away, diving], ian van dahl [try], and i like madelyne 'beautiful child'. i also like sammy's 'boys of summer' and 'sunlight'. i dont think sunlight is cheese. its there in armins asot poll at trance.nu..but ive heard a lot of crap cheese too which i dont like...vengaboys, eiffel65, sanstorm and kernkraft.
so i like around 45% of the cheese that comes out. so sue me. its good for certain moods/times.

Alot of the music which you are calling "Trance" and is cheese, I think would be better called "Dance" music.

Also Darude Sandstorm was a track which i enjoyed, fair enough it was overplayed but I am glad that Darude has come back and is releasing a new album to silence his haters. Show us that he isnt a one hit wonder

Agreed
Sash! - With my own eyes (DJ Tandu Mix).mp3 Is Brilliant!

Behold, my arse.

i dunno if youve heard of this one, but:

CHAMPION BURNS - ATTITUDE

is the cheesiest, most revolting thing i have ever heard.
its supposed to be hardhouse but it has a really
annoying screeching wailing synth and an uber-cheese
vocal that would drive any thinking person insane...yet
i still went through the trouble of downloading it

let the record show that i would never ever EVER drop
this tune at a party or into a mix because then i think
the people listening would bash me over the head
with my own decks

How funny that I'm just now listening to a set that starts with Attitude: But it is a remix done by Supreme Dream Team (aka Spoke & Vespa 63) and it didn't sound that bad.*shrug*
