If anybody has ever heard Das Bo - Turlich Turlich, that's quality rap. Sure it's in German, but it's catchy. I like it. I don't like most hip hop.. Some stuff has got talent, but nothing really grabs me.

The point I want to make however is in the DJs here. At my university, there is like a community of DJs, we talk a lot, and invite each other to our parties, and get together and spin. These are the techno DJs (house, trance, breaks, jungle). The hip hop DJs are all about being better than everyone else and don't give anybody the time of day. It's just an interesting thing I've noticed.

Secondly on music. It has nothing to do with the music. People who have not tried to spin to a US audience probably don't know. Someone recommended playing Thrillseekers - Synesthasia, or insert your fav. track here, don't understand. It has nothing to do with the music. It has to do with what the people are willing to hear. And for people here in the states it has to be music they have already heard before. People like to say that they are rebels here, and say that they hate pop music and like their whatever. But their whatever is just music they've heard before..

Let me prove my point... I was spinning at a dance party. I drop some tracks.. A fairly brilliant set, one of the tracks is Chicane - Halcyon [Airscape Remix]... now if this tune doesn't get under your feet and make you move I don't know what would. But nobody moves. Then I play Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 and suddenly people dance.

Now Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 is hard trance no matter how you cut it. It's progressive, when it was made I doubt it was ever meant to be listened to by non trance fans, it's builds and synths are deeply embedded in the essence of trance. It is, for no good reason, very different from Dumonde - Never Look Back, or Mario Lopez - Sound Of Nature [Plug n' Play Mix] or Arrakis - Spice, or whatever.

The only difference is that people have heard it before.

Their mind goes like this..... uhh.. hmm it sounds like he is playing techno...... ears glaze over... it's still techno, techno... oh it's zombie nation.. they don't listen to the music because they don't recognize it so their mind just reduces it to "techno" so they don't have to listen to it.

So I follow up Zombie Nation with Alice Deejay - Better off Alone to prove my point. I think they even noticed the transition.

The moral of the story is we need more Mitsubishi commercials on TV.

I'd say I could play Dirty Vegas - Days Go By and Telepopmusik - Breathe and not have people walk off the floor now,.. All thanks to Mitsubishi.

That's how it is out here. But at least we TAs have a good solid Trance community where we aren't assholes.

Halcyon = good song. And for Zombie Nation as they all would say, "I need something with a beat." You should have thrown in some Darude - Sandstorm and they all would have went crazy!

Indeed they would have. But I hate that tune.. So... annoying IMHO.

And I'm not sure if Darude ripped off 2000 canaries or the other way around. Maybe somebody could enlighten me.

any crowd that boo's off anyone trying to spin hiphop is cool with me :P

It was an outside set on the space open air terrace - everyone was going off about it.

Once you get there it wont be cheap either. Ibizas prices are a lot more than other Spanish islands - but then again you get quality clubs and a lack of lager louts so its worth paying extra for. By lager louts I mean people going on booze n birds holidays (ie. Trying to as drink as much alcohol and have as much sex as possible), on other Spanish resorts people go there just to do that - there is even a British holiday company specialising in them!

i was sooooo close to ibiza this last summer, and my fucking friends didn't want to go, because they like "hip-hop" and it's not the scene for them. I was like shit if I find a couple of girls going, I'm going to ditch them and find my own way home . But it never happend and I left very disappointed
