I went through and picked the wrong answers deliberately. I scored a 72

But anyways, The music you listen to has no real concrete affect on what your intelligence is going to be, but on the other hand, the music you listen to can stimulate and help in situations where you have to puzzle out things and solve problems, because it stimulates your mind and gets it going, but that does not mean that it has to be bach, or trance.... |
it's proven that listening to mozart as a little kid you get a higher IQ.

hahahahaha, i can't believe you used those terms our statistics teacher keeps hammering into our heads... lol
<--- 133, which is actually not true... all those goddamn logic questions + trance + using no paper/calc. this is the type of tests i took when i was 8-10yo and i always came out a genius on them... so yes, this test IS kinda wrong...
as for correlation between electronica/iq, i was thinking of mebbe doing my final project in statistics on sat scores vs. genre of music

that would be a good topic... the only problem would be finding all the data. you would have to sample from various sources, diff schools to make any sort of conclusion. plus, you would have to do the regression work, which should be easy once u get all your data
good luck!
Posted by Kurve on Dec-01-2002 04:28:
wow look at everyons scores ..look at all the smart people LMAO..... with this many highly intelligent people you would sure hope that the world would be a better place then it really is ....
honeslty most people are full of shit with there iqs
or this test is full of shit ..its almost impossible to have so many people over 130 in here ..so folks dont feel smart yet most likely your dumb as fuck and this test is just misleading your minds LOL!!!
i got a 130 and i know im not a 130 IQ

Hehe..dont ask me how i made 127 |
bloody hell, that is one fucked up test. i got a 100 on it. btw, did you know that it's believed that geniuses are socially inept? and that's kinda true, really smart people/geeks do lack social skills. lol
i took the "ultimate iq test" and i got a 133 again... damn it, i'm smarter than that. maybe i should've takend it during the day and not @ 12 am... all those damn pattern figures wtf
no i'm sjust angry, wtf, i'm smart lol. i need sleep. wtf lol haha

Now SAT test have almost NOTHING to do with intelligence. How else would it be possible to drastically raise your scores by practicing? I for example had to take one and since in Austria no1s familiar with them I had to buy 2 american books to actually know what this is about. I started with 500 on math and ended up at 730 but on the test day(maybe nerviosity or jsut bad day..) a 690. The point proves the "correlation"
between iq and sat wrong.

yeah, but don't you think it would be rather hard to gather the IQ statistics from people? many people don't know their IQ + what if they're ashamed of it and lie about it? it's more likely to happen than with the SAT scores (which don't really show anything)
Posted by TranceGiant on Dec-01-2002 14:29:
"SAT scores (which don't really show anything)"
Hehehe, so u admit it. So..as a consequence ur statistics wont show anything either. Logical thinking?
Okay, lets say that high SAT scores can be only achieved when having a certain intellectual potential(aka intell.). Therefore u will have some "trend" but a very inaccurate one.

it wouldn't be a terribly complex project, not a phd thesis or anything. if i were to explore it, the only thing i'd research would be if there actually is some correspondence between high sat scores (quantitative variable) and favorite genre of music (categorical variable). the results wouldn't mean anything.
it's not a good idea to compare those variables at all, because the relationship between them couldn't be established clearly. it's just a theory, that people who like trance (AND post on these forums, which could be a confounding variable, meaning it influences your intelligence, and you cannot determine which affects your IQ more, posting or trance) are smart. go on some pop forum and try to argue with all the 12yo AOLers there, who probably have a negative cummulative IQ.
this is not just about being smart and having high intelligence; it's rather about being open-minded. does trance make us more open-minded? or do we listen to trance because we already ARE open-minded?
sat scores are just numbers on a piece of paper, which are VERY inaccurate, because the level of your intelligence has about the same confounding effect on them as, say, the number of hours you had to sleep the night before the test. i got a 690 on my math sat1, yet i got a 780 on sat2 math IIC. how could i have gotten a much higher score on a much harder test? obviously, there was some other variable that had some effect on me in both cases.
besides, if we were to look at the verbal scores vs. genre, the results would be biased. a lot of the people who like trance (a lot meaning enough to influence the real outcome) do not speak english as their first language, therefore their verbal scores would be lower than those of native english speakers (or i might be wrong, but all of the above is IMHO)

Since im VERY bored today, heres my response
I dont know if we can genereally say that electronic music is for open minded people, or mind openING, of it is "intelligent" music or music for intelligent people but we surely can say that:
It is unique in that it's totally based on irrational elements such as texture, form, rhythm and emotion and abandons the narrative, which charakteizes so many other genres (from rock too pop)(although those too have exceptations where the "sound" itself outweighs the narrative and traditional structure). Electronic music is also special because of thesignificance of the CONTEXT. The dj is basially an architect, an artist who always creates new works with already known elemnets. Thus hearin NU nrgDreamland at the end of a set is gonna be a totally different experience than hearing it randomly dropped after tons of other hysteric anthems. Also, the specific songs themselves wil always sound different as they leave a great space for interpretation. Delirium - Silence (tiesto mix) will at one time sounds euphoric and at the other time depressing and heartbreaking. As this genre is so heavily related to out emotions, we are also likely to connect certain expeiences with songs. (thinks a moment and realizes how he fails to make a point
)...
Soo... you could say that trance/electronica in general is more "intelligent" because it doesn't tell you how to think about it. It's all up to you, it's subjective interpretation.

yes, good point. but is there some connection between emotions & maturity? (uhh, this is so unclear) ignorance is bliss.
i can't really think clearly right now, but don't we all like trance because of how it makes us feel? don't we all hate cheesy music cuz it makes us feel cheesy, corny, cheep, and uneasy?
well, what is that unknown factor in trance that makes me throw my hands in the air and cry during the breakdown of some tune, say nightclubbing (wippenberg remix), and the other person to say that it's weird repetitive noise?
the question is, are our brains different in any way? i know that i'm a very unusual person and i think in a VERY different way from practically everybody i know (i notice unusual things other people don't and my logical ways of finding the answers are usually way different from everybody else's).
i know that in a sense we're all unusual and think differently, but i've had numerous situations of my classmates chuckling at what i said; and as my english teacher says, a response of chuckling/laughter means that people are reacting to what you're saying in a positive way. or maybe i just said something stupid, i dunno.
you know how they say that if you can't listen to classical music, that means you're not mature enough for it? that's why they play lotsa classical music in the malls, to drive the shoplifting teenagers away, who can't stand classical (that's what my mom told me she read in the paper, so all complaints should be directed to her)
many people diss electronica because it's not 'natural' music and also cause it can't be played live. well, why does it matter?

this is actually true, i've experienced it myself, because i was very smart when i was younger, ans i had no friends etc. I've become a lot more stupid now, and my social skills are way higher than then. Though hitting on a girl is still pretty hard for me...
ouch...
When you think that's funny you have it wrong, it's not quite nice to be beaten up all the time because you can't make friends...
Posted by Lytchix on Dec-01-2002 19:54:
I got 127 but it doesn't mean nothing for my case because I didn't understand some expressions used in the questions (my english is far from the perfection) so I took a french-english dictionnary in order to answer it...

hey, i was that way myself, although i always stood up for myself. i was a weird little kid: smart but violent lol. people used to make fun of me all the time and they still do. the best way to deal with sad things is to laugh them off and not get all depressed about everything. the ability to let that which does not matter truly slide.

perhaps you can narrow your research to find the correlation between logic (math sat scores) and genres of music. you are right, in that trance spans cultures, so you wouldn't be able to find any relationships with non english speaking trance lovers.
the research is basically easy to do.the only hard part is accumulating all the data, so you can crunch later in a stats program

are u guys talking bout the "ultimate" one or this "ultra high ceiling test". Cause trying the latter I failed to do any problem, also because i realized it'd require loooots of time

really, those questions are as generic as they get... Devil is to Lived as a series of 4 numbers is to.... blah, blah, blah... really prejudiced there, I challenge you to find one prejudiced question on there. Or I suppose people of certain races are predisposed to not tell the difference of geometric objects... I'm mean really, if your going to cry prejudice, point out some evidence please.
I took the test twice, first time for real, and the second time to deliberately answer every question wrong to try to get a 0, and ended up with a 72, LOL. The real time I got a 134...
Posted by Tukan on Dec-03-2002 04:07:
I don't understand how everyone keeps getting over 145? i thought that was liek the max for this test, i went back and checked every answer and my total was like 144 ??
i'm sure i've dun this one before and i think i got 140
anyway i did the hard-out highiq one and only got a 127, but it was 3am and i sorta gave up after the first half.
I also did the logic one and got a 152 and the verbal one and got a 151, i just have to admit i hate shapes!! maybe i'm just too impatient..
