i'm system administrator (Windows NT/2000). I use Windows 2000 Advanced Server at home. I don't play games that don't run on it.
2000 is very good made. i like it alot. i hate windows 98/Me and the old NT. Linux/Unix is very powerful. Alot of people are making it. This improves the code. Written in C and this makes it portable. Very fast. Many many other good features. But it still has bad interface. Most user friend is RedHat. But you need to know to program or you can't use linux. I tried several times but its very hard. You choose!

you can use it but it will be very hard for you. if you are going to try linux i recommend downloading the latest redhat. its good for beginners. you must select all your hardware propertly. but if you need to download new drivers they require compiling and here we go. also new programs require compiling an so on.
i know windows 98 sux very much. i reborn when i installed windows 2000. very good performance. remember checking FAT32 filesystem always when you press RESET button, with NTFS filesystem this is not a problem. DON'T NEED TO RESTART WINDOWS EVERY 5 MINUTES. I DON'T RESTART AT ALL. directx included (now ver. 8 available). you can change almost all of the network settings without restarting. you can add almost all of the new hardware without restarting. i remember when i accidently disconnected the power of my harddisk windows freezed for 1 min. and then "you just disconnect device - HARD DISK" message appeared. i was amazed.
all new games support it. you can check your supported hardware/software on www.ntcompatible.com. 98/Me are dead and microshit know it. they just want to get people's money.
give it a try. its very gooood compared to the old 98 shit.

hehe...it ain't out quite just yet man.
soon though...soon..
windows 2000 is already good. with few registry optimization and corrections you are ready to go. optimization = speed, corrections=security. i recommend windows 2000. i also wanna run linux(also have 2 hard disks), tried few times - but its very hard. you always encounter problems to make the system stable. my windows system is working perfectly. no error messages, no reboots, no blue screens and etc.
unfortuanetly Windows
eh, i think win98 ain't too bad
i used to use them memory managers etc. but after i installed new motherboard & cpu and redid os too, i didn't install the manager and windows is quite stable!!
i used to have to reboot daily, 'cos my computer is on 24/7...but now i can leave it running almost a whole week before i reboot...and in that case only 'cos i think it needs it, not because it starts to crash or do strange things

you cannot compare 98 with 2000. with 2000 i run different applications many times a day and i don't need to reboot.
i'm running web server on my pc, also playing most of the games (CS,Quake3,NFS5,Broodwar) and other applications without need to reboot. also i'm trying different "3rd party" programs which most of the time can crash win 98. before several months i had DUAL BOOT win98/2000. now after my last reinstall(which will be only one for few years forward) i have only 2000.
regards

I use WINWILL IT CRASH 98 (aka windows). I wish programs did not crash as often as windows but i guess windows is better than other os out there
check windows 2000 and you will see the difference. w2k is perfect for bussines applications. you can buy more RAM - very cheap at the moment. with 256 w2k will fly.

hmm, this seems really strange!!
i know a few people who've tried ME, but they all hated it!!...always problems with software etc.
ya, i know 98 (i have se) can be problematic too, but mine's running like a dream
...my bro has 2k, but i didn't want to go searching for all the friggin new drivers for everything

from what i've heard, 2k is much better than 98 but for me i'm happy with 98
have window 98 second edition
i have ME on a disk but im scared it will fuck up my computer...anyone have any problems with music programs? TRAKTOR < COOLEDIT??
when i boot with Linux Mandrake 8.0 i'm happy , but when it comes to Win 98 SE , it's a big big mess ... GOD SAVE THE SCRIPT KIDDIES
