Actually Pete Tong doesn't do any drugs at all. Not my fav type of music, but I've partied with him several times..He just mostly sticks to his whisky...def no drugs, especially coke.

hmmmmmm so now im wondering why no-one has said judge jules yet!!!!!

ill admit right now, that he IS getting better..... but i think he has to go down as THE most hated DJ throughout DJ culture history

judge jules...... the guy that tryed to get glowsticks banned from gatecrasher (the best club in the world).... and helped to try and get rid of the cyber/crasherkids...

....went months and months, of playing absolutely weak, piss poor wank mixed sets, with no structure what so ever (no exaggeration).... for about 1 and a half years.

His radio1 shows..... that went thru a massive shit phase, of playing shit tunes. along with his annoying jingles, and smartass comments.

His weak venture into harder trance and hardstyle recently on his radio show...... that is weeks and weeks behind the times

........like i sed..... he IS getting better as a DJ, im not a fashionable jules hater that just dosnt like him becuase it is fashionable to hate him...... 2 years ago, i heard him play one of the best sets i have ever heard (in gatecrasher where he WAS king) ...... and also, ive heard him play so many awful sets, along with his arrogance.

i think he'll retrieve his status sooner or later..... but i think he is undoubtaedly, the most hated DJ, but i guess this only really applies to the UK

edit:...... btw. i dont think dave pearce should be included in this dispute..... cos hes never been good, and never will be..... hes on a completely different club circuit, to that of the DJ'swe all love ........ or quite incidentely ..... hate

well he's not really jay - as he plays around the place (not places like crasher or gk) but other places - alongside people like jules etc.

like beerboys???........ sorry if this sounds drug elitest, i dont mean this in a drug revolutionary way....... but judge is absolutely adored by the 'large amounts of alcohol' consuming population..... yep.... those fucking dickheads hoo go to normal 'get pissed-fuck a bird-get a fight' sorta clubs

Those tracks were mixed by a computer.

Because...

he is popular?
he was a successful DJ?
he runs a successful record label?
you think he is a sellout?
he was a big part of bringing the trance scene to where it is today?
he produces music outside of trance because his taste spans genres?

Why exactly do you hate him ?

Posted by naeblis on Feb-18-2003 05:56:

I know it is rumored that he computers mix his sets... but... honestly does anyone really know? Or have a reliable source to back this info up? Personally... I think Okie can make a pretty good prog set everyone now and again... I mean... its not horrible..could be worse.

DJ Skribble should have his kneecaps broken.

I don't hate him because he's popular, successful, or a sellout. There's no doubt that he's one of the pioneers of electronic music and his contributions to this genre plays a big part in its success.

I hate him because he could ruin a completely flowing set with a nasty vocal song (ie. Bullet in the Gun). I hate him because he abuses his popularity to make himself rich by releasing a POS album like Bunkka (again, shitty is the only word I could use and it reflects only my personal opinion). And using his name, he asks better artists to make remixes to his shitty tunes to make even more money.

I hate him because he, again, uses his popularity to "host" a radioshow only to have tracks mixed on a computer (Someone asked for proof, I read it on DJmixes2k). I hate him bacause he can't mix and gets voted for #1 DJ. Listen to most of his sets, crossfading is not mixing.

you have a tracklist up that might be great.... but that says nothing besides the fact that you find oakenfold's taste in music agreeable with yours.... him as a dj - - there is absolutely nothing there!!! i have spent the last 5 years ive been listening to this music banging my head wondering how that man has reached the top with such fame. i have heard oakenfold live and heard him run into trainwrecks twice in a 2 hour set. he can't mix worth anything. my opinion, not worthy of top ten....

as for you guys talking pvd trash... you suck and paul rocks! but everyone is entitled to an opinion. mine is that he is the best live dj there is. awesome taste, amazing control on the mixer and effects, very decent mixing skills...often mixing off 3+ decks. i'm seeing him live in 17 hours. woohoo.

sorry to piss off the oakey fans, but i really have grown a disgust for him seeing him in the top ten year after year and knowing the truth! he crossfaded straight out of the almost-climax in breeder- tyrantanic (slackers kingdome come mix), and i mean crossfaded without beatmatching AND cutting off the climax of an amazing progressive trance classic. boo oakenfold.

Bullet in the Gun, one track you don't like, woohoo. Shut the Fuck up. Ever seen the reaction this got in Gatecrasher when it and Oakie was in it's hey day? erm no!, and thats where it counts, Gatecrasher
A POS album like Bunkka?? wtf? not enough trance on there for you lovey? well boo fucking hoo. The album was released with critical acclaim, how many other dance artists can say that the majority of people liked there album?
DJmixes2k is not a credible source you fuck up.
Umes23:
I don't actually like some of the tracks on those tracklists, but what they show is that his sets are no longer random, they flow nicely, which is what Oakenfold sets were all about
You've been listening to him for 5 years? wow. Go listen to the stuff from 9 years ago, and see how the guy has progressed. You've been banging your head wondering how he's got to the top? you must be fucking stupid! It's called the 1999 Essential Mix world tour, and Paul Oakenfold set the standard for DJ's in that year. He very rarely played the same tune twice, his sets varied so much, without a loss in quality. Wow you've heard him trainwreck, twice in a set! I've heard PvD do it every other mix for nearly half a 3 hour set, at a major event. It's no secret that Oakie went to america, and has been arsing around ever since, he may have been the first to go over there and be able to play shit off his name, but he won't be the last. Scott Bond, Eddie Halliwell, Marco V spring to mind, of DJ's that goto america, get wasted, and spin badly. But they still play well where it counts, in Europe, and make no mistake, that is where it counts.......
so in short, you're wrong, both of you

Posted by newbie on Feb-18-2003 15:50:

DJ Skribble.

He'll mix songs 4-6 years old on MTV, and call it the latest in dance music. Although I haven't seen MTV since spring break 3 years ago.

Posted by kr00t0n on Feb-18-2003 15:55:

Havent seem too many big names, but those that I have:

Jules, seen him three times, they all stank, just dont like his style of music, he didnt even do any research when he played in Cpae Town as to what styles go down well there, his floaty and commercial stuff was very ill received. I've heard that he does have good sets however.

Tiesto, I dont reckon he's bad, but just not all my style, too slow and floaty for my tastes.

PvD... whoo, keep him away! Saw him at Passion Feb 1st, and both JFK and Westy creamed him. His music is just too... abstract I guess.
Im starting to think he does all these re-works so he can mix the tracks easier (he butchered Massive, I'll tell you that much)
Dont get all the fuss, but in the end, its down to what YOU like that'll decided WHO you dislike
