well there's a lot I want to add here.. too much actually. So I'll keep to the biggest point I was thinking while reading through this. Trance making it "big" in U.S. would have high and low points. But it won't happen, at least not trance as we know it. Think about this hurry-up culture we live in now. Everyone is A.D.D. or simply impatient, but it comes down to basically the same thing. The only trance songs that make it popular here are shortened radio remixes, or tracks that you can cut out "the good part" of and just play that. The only band that radio stations can get away with playing long tracks (6-10 minutes long) from I can think of is Tool, and that only on rock stations. They won't try that on pop music stations even. Not to mention.. the argument of the beat being boring and repetitive, but that's all these guys are used to listening to is the beat : the most easily understood portion of a song. They miss the complexity that resides in a well produced trance track. There's too much in most good trance songs for a casual listener to actually listen and find out what makes a track special, all they here is the boom boom boom in the background and totally miss the important stuff. Trance tracks are basically too complex and too long for the 3-4 minute long popular music listener. IN order for trance to be big on mtv in the US, they'd have to release radio remixes, cut versions or whatever, and if that happens, that will hurt the sound of it more than any bonuses of it becoming popular would aid it.

not very positive, am I?

I wonder if it ever occured to some of you that not everyone is going to like the same type of music as you, and that it doesnt make them ignorant, or close minded. It's to slow for some people, and theres nothing wrong with it, its to repetitive for others and theres nothing wrong with that. And the rap is similarly repetitive arguemnt is BS, because the main part of the song is the words, and those arnt the same throughout.

Finaly, the people on this board arn't lucky that they've "found trance", they're lucky that they've found some form of music that they love, trance isnt any better or any worse than any other type of music.

one of the best posts in ths thread.

If trance wasn't hated so much as some people say, then it will be on the radio. Radioplay means that it will be all over MTV, mainstream media, and all people will be listening to in at home, car, personal audio player, etc. I think some people are hypocrites in that they want trance to become more "accepted" yet don't want trance to become "commercialized". You can't have it "popular" and not "commercialized".

If trance was so much of an "underground" type of music, then it isn't supposed to be played on the radio at all. Be happy that you listen to trance.

Trance in most areas is pretty much leveling off unless you go clubbing to see PVD, Armin, Tiesto etc. I dont even bother going to a college house party if i knew someone was playing trance all night. . .its just not the same. I find the majority of the ppl that are still trance addicts are those that have just jumped onto the bandwagon, or are truly addicts.

Well we all jumped on the bandwaggon at some point in time ... maybe we're just getting older and seeing things differentely.

Hell no one in North Carolina will book me cuz I am a trance DJ. And from what I have been told I am a pretty decent DJ. What do you TA's think about this subject? Give IllusionZ some feedback ...

People hate trance (or techno, or classical or ambient for that matter) because they suffer from A.D.D. I've said it before and I stick by it.

I sympathise with you though, being a good DJ and not being able to get booked. Such is life.

Ohh and I'd like to say what someone else already said, it really pisses me off when people call any sort of electronic music techno, makes me want to bitch slap some sense into them.

I'm not sure if that statement is silly or stupid.

I am currently diagnosed with A.D.D/A.D.H.D and I listen to trance, furthermore saying that someone who doesnt like a certain music has some sort of problem is just stupid.
