LOL @ this thread.

One word of advice - if you are addicted to vinyl, for the love of god, DO NOT get a credit card!!!! It will spell your demise.

At least with cash, when you run out - you run out. You can't make money materialise out of thin air.

But with a credit card, you *can*. (sorta) Then you are seriously in debt and worrying to no end about how you'll ever pay it off.

Then you just forget about it and buy more vinyl!!! lol

Posted by Greedy on Apr-22-2003 23:13:

ive finally overcome my addiction and only buy records that I can use in clubs. . . instead of buying those "MUST HAVE" records that only gets played like 3 times.

Posted by dj_pulse on Apr-23-2003 01:54:

hmm... this aint good... you guys are bastards..

i had decided NOT to buy any vinyl today, but after seeing this topic and having a look at the 20-30 records on my "to buy" list, im on my way to the record store!

the worst i've ever done, however, is spend my ENTIRE ($US700) fortnightly pay on records... they were good records, but i got a threatening letter from my real estate agent!

stupid vinyl......... somebody remind me why i do this? oh yeah, i love the music... but still... i shouldnt be spending this much on records... should i?

Sure, its the feel of the plastic but its soo much more then that!

Its the feel of joy and adrenaline when you receive it in the mail
or pick it up at the store, the overwhelming feeling of the urge
to play the record when you feel that special vinyl flavour.
The happiness when you get to cue it up before mixing it in with
another track, the totally awesome feeling to look down at your decks
and see for instance see the vinyl say "Banzai - DJ PROMO", "PERFECTO" (in that nice blue color),
"DATA" or whatever label it might be, just to look down and see the
beauty that has reached your home.

Part of listening to vinyls is buying them, not downloading
shitty mp3s that is compressed and listening to them via
final scratch. Thats the cheapo's way of doing it and he is missing
out on so much. Its like saying no to a date with the finest, best
looking girl in the city so you can date your sister instead.

Finally, Zain, look again. You might have it all figured out, but
Im sorry to say, you haven't. There isnt anything that says that
someone who plays and collects vinyl must buy 20-30 records a month,
you can buy just one every year if you want. But its like sex, the
first time its prolly a worthless track that you just buyed because
it was beeing re-pressed but you are still hooked, and you start
experimenting with different shops, labels and ways of playing.
AMEN BROTHA

When I realise that I really really love a track I have as an mp3, just out of interest I go to juno or chemical and see if they have it... then I get anxious to buy it up because I figure I might not have the chance to do so if I wait around! This has gone on for the last 7 or 8 months and I now have about 80 vinyls.

I DON'T EVEN HAVE DECKS.

Well people, good times, good times. I remember posting the above quote back in March of 2003, 8 months or so into my vinyl-buying addiction. Now, another 12 months down the track I finally have DECKS!!@% OMFG!!! Here they are, about 2 years of dreaming come to life.

yay!

^^^^^^^

you must of spent a hella lot of money on that

Posted by jizza on May-20-2004 03:10:

at first i was just buying classics, like the tunes that got me into trance and then progressed into purchasing more "current" titles... now i just pretty much stock up on anything round and made of vinyl ie. culture club - karma chameleon.

my addiction is getting out of hand, but the thing is i dont really regret a single purchase, like i couldnt part with any of my babies (except a few here and there). it almost seems justified in the end... almost.

Get this everyone. There are 3 record stores by my house and the one I like most is 45 minutes away. I try to stop their at least once a week to see what is new. They seem to sell all the good stuff as soon as it hits the floor so I try to call and go on days shipments come. However, I aways end up buying at least 2 vinyls everytime I go there. It is an addiction but I managed to my charge to much vinyl. I use my debit/credit card. The good thing about the other 2 recoreds stores is I have an excuse to buy somethng from them when I am in the area. However the thing I hate about buying vinyls is I will know a title but don't know the name of a record. I will be starring at it in the store not know that's the vinyl and by teh time I find out thats the one I want, it's sold out. I have a whole lists of imports I am still waiting for teh store to stock again. It seems like when they sell out they never get that vinyl back in stock.

Well i have 4- rarely use the metal ones now.
Double up as suitcases if i ever go away for the night.. lol

Can recommend them 100%- no problems at all- the pink one is the latest purchase- limited edition, and ultra pimp. Cant see the leopard print one clearly in the pic tho.

The only problem with them is if you have a few can get awkward to carry (you should be able to carry one on each shoulder and one in your hand max) but they get very heavy- but still much lighter than a metal box, even at full capacity.
If you remove one or more of the foams you can get more tunes in, but then it becomes really really heavy.

Highly recommended.

Why is it so addictive? I ask because I'm a producer, not a DJ...but I would like to try at one of these days. I'm good with rhythm and syncro. Anyway, what's so addictive about buying records? I know I'm always getting new gear without needing it...just to have another thing to play with...so I never get to learn a synth completely, haha. eBay owns me I swear.

Posted by jago on May-20-2004 22:07:

i think u all should go to vinyl anonumous, "hello my names John and I'm a vinylholic".

Posted by montana on May-21-2004 12:45:

I think most of my paycheck goes to vinyl even if i have no money ill find money for vinyl. If i walk into a record store i cant get out unless i have 50-100$ worth of vinyl :VINYL JUNKIE

Posted by D Dubya on May-21-2004 15:53:

I used to be. Dropping 200-300 a week was no big deal. Now, though, I have learned to stay away from dancerecords.com for a couple weeks at a time (I have to buy stuff when I visit - I just have to). This has proved a lot healthier on my budget. To be honest, my worst budget buster is eBay. That place for some reason just makes me spend 100s every time I go to it.

Posted by Freak on May-21-2004 17:13:

im retsrained in a shop- but online its just soooo easy- especially with several whopping credit cards.
As you can see, im addicted.

I know what you mean...you see a good deal on a vinyl you've been wanting and just have to get it.
