ummmmm...HUH? I dont believe they were asking how to be a "great DJ." i believe they were just trying to get opinions on the wide variety of headphones that are out there. And as far as DJ Rap is concerned.. theres only one

I think Shady had popped one to many pills when he wrote that...

nice to see another huge headphone discussion.... once again.
But now that we are on the topic, im still striving more than just my sony's MDR7506.. im itching for sennheiser HD25. I just think that the 7506s are great, but a bit too bright for my personal taste. Ill see when i can come up for the cash for the HD25, or maybe even trade.

Some mixers don't have stereo/mono switch, so the headphones allow you to do that, personally mine are always on stereo, this is what I was told.

Mine are also on stereo. PIONEER DJM600 has a mono/stereo output so....

No, you got it all wrong. Judge Jules is totally sweet and whatever he does is equally as sweet- including what kind of headphones he wears. But the thing about this constant re-occuring topic of "which headphones are the sweetest" is ridiculous. I mean, everyone has their own preferences. When you get to the high end headphones sound quality is all about the same. The differences occur in style and such. For example, the headphones jules wears are as light as a feather. Thats one advantage it has over another pair of headphones. This type of differences are a personal preference and this thread-like most- is an arguement of opinions- which is insane.

my Pioneer HDJ1000's
one of the best DJ cans in my books, and i love em to bits.

Edit: bottom right hand pic, i know they're folded wrong, my friend folded them while i took pics. stupid idiot, makes me look like i don't know how to fold my own headphones up lol

Posted by JohnSmith on Apr-07-2003 15:58:

Are the HD25 or HD25SP?
HOw much did you pay for them?
They were amazing... thats it? Perhaps you can give us a more in depth review (ei. bass is good, treble very high, mid is out there.... whatever)
Have you tried them for djing or just home listening? How are they at loud volumes?
One other question: What other headphones have you tried or owned?
Im just so curious, cause ive only heard these cans once long time ago, at Sound Advice...i cant really remember how they sounded (couple years back), but im thinking of dishing out the xtra cash to get them.

Peace,
Rick

I paid $305 cdn including shipping/handling and taxes

i got them from Etronics

I had the sony mdrv600 and the mdrv700.

The sound coming out of them is so crisp and clear with no distortion at all when you jack up the monitor volume levels.
I found the sony 700's bass way to overpowering and drowning out the mids and highs. The isolation is alot better than the sony's as well, yes they might not look like they do with the small earcups, but they do.

the hd25 and the hd25sp are not the same. The hd25sp has a single headband, unlike the double on the hd25. The hd25 cost more and they are better quality.

The hd25 are very light and comfortable, unlike the heavy 700s ive used.

Another feature of the hd25 that i like is that every part is replaceable: the headband, the cord, the drivers and the earcups.
I don't have to go in detail how badly designed the hin ges are onthe sony 700s, mine broke in less that yr.
Each earpiece on the hd25 is height adjustable and they pivoted for the right fit.

I aint gonna tell you what to buy. Headphones are a personal thing. I know ppl who swear by the 700s and would not live without them.

Try to find a local place who allows you to try each brand and decide for yourself.

Damn, all this headphone talk makes me want to get new ones. What do u guys think, I got these 23 year old Yamaha Hp-1 that belonged to my dad. They sound awesome, but the Pioneer HDJ1000's are sooo cool

Nice! Thnx Bender for the detailed review
I agree that its best to try out headphones before purchasing, but I cant seem to find any local retailers that carry the HD25 anymore, weirdo.
I also have the MDRV700 and I have the MDR7506, but I was curious to see if you had experience and tested other 'decent' headphones before aquiring these. For insntance, way back when, i use to have Koss headphones, and when I upgraded ot the MDRV700s, they seemed to be the best.... but obviously, from experience, i know better

Peace,
Rick

Cool. So have you tried any other decent headphoens other than the HD25? At least to demo them?

I want to die right now... I have a pair of these (for a few months now) and I've loved them. Tonight the left side just randomly quit on me... anyone know of any easy fix solutions or am I just screwed?

I was hoping the expert would respond! I know it's not normal at all which is why this sucks. Do you happen to know the appropriate link to contact people? Many thanks!

Posted by Gluegun on Apr-11-2003 06:38:

Well, here is Sennheiser USA's webpage:

http://www.sennheiserusa.com/

And here is a page of a bunch of headphone enthusiasts that might be able to help you do your own repairs:

http://www.head-fi.org/

Posted by djmorph on Apr-11-2003 14:43:

I was looking on the Sennheiser website n saw that they sell refurbished(repaired) headphones on thier website for a discount price. I was wondering if anyone has bought these refurbished products. If they're still in good quality I imagine the savings would be well worth it.

WARNING though, PIONEER headphones are very powerful, YOU WILL NEED TO TURN DOWN THE VOLUME ON YOUR MIXER BEFORE USING THEM, I almost tore my ear drums the first time I put them on, I was used to Sony 700DJ that I had before, so my mixer headphone volume was turned up, now it is only about 35% turned up.

Dude, you're flamin yourself with comments like that. Studio Monitors, not dj headphones my ass. Don't knock the 25's if you don't know anything about them.

Picking headphones is a personal thing and for home use, it doesn't really matter that much once you hit a certain price, they're all good. All I have to say is don't buy the Sony 700s. I've seen too many people and read too many posts of people winging about their cans breaking. They might look cool but if you wanna be dishing out that kinda cash every time you drop them, or every time they fall of the table, that's your choice.
