mate, i think the point your missing is...... he may have his style, but hes had it for too long, im not saying hes shit.... but im saying that sooner or later you gotta evolve, you gotta go to that next step.... tiesto did it, but it seems he failed..... but that dosnt mean its not the right thing to do. armin has still been on the same level hes on now for too long. if he wants to stay at the forefront, hes gotta learn to try new things, before sumone else beats him to it and then they become the new sensation.

this may be a bad example. but look at eminem. his first album... (slimshady ep(i know not his first, but his frst recognised one)) aits all about doing drugs and killing ppl and fucking around, all the tracks have funny jivey little rhythms on them...... his second album (marshall mathers lp)... more cool laid back with more street credible lyrics and cooler rhythms...... his current album..... more on the morals side, its not all about killing ppl, being cool or down or whatever. you see what i mean, i know its a different style of music.... but if eminem kept on rapping about drugs and killing ppl etc.... theres no way hed have the fan base he has now.

and this is what armins gotta do..... and indeed ,all the other trance dj's out there. trance aint fresh anymore, everythings been done.... same old vibe given off from some girl singing about love or a state of mind and then the same old sounds used but in a different order, or whatever.

...used to

.....for the last god damn time!

Posted by chesco on Mar-26-2003 22:25:

all's i'm saying is he is nowhere near as good a producer/dj as me. I think it's plain to see that i clearly own armin van buuren. And i'm thinking of buying over this dj tiesto character as well.

Posted by InfiniteSquare on Mar-26-2003 22:47:

if there wasnt such a thing as mp3 sets then no one could say he isnt evolving or changing - cuz for sure his sets would be different from one time to the next when you hear him live

just too many livesets broadcasted - it ruins it - but i like it cuz he will never come to where i live

Posted by speedracer_mec on Mar-26-2003 23:00:

fact of the matter is whether producers use the same bassline or sound...IN THE END...wut counts is if it is good?

ex: nightcrawlers-never knew love(matt darey remix)
three drives-greece 2000(lost tribe"matt darey" remix)
gigolo-al paradiso(matt darey remix)
M3-bailamos(matt darey remix)

all same driving bassline and similar sounds....AMazing buildups and climax like no other producer can bring to u...

Armin van Buuren - Sunburn.mp3
armin van buuren remix of solid sessions-janeiro
Oceanlab - Sky Falls Down (Armin van Buuren Mix)
solarstone_-_seven_cities-(armin_van_buuren_vocal_mix)

these here all similar sound by avb...but IMO they are mediocre..THEY LACKED POLISH and seemed rushed....they lack the beauty of another producer who has similar "sounds" in his tunes..since this debate is heating up..

avb needs to polish his tunes up and IMO his last great remix was..

Ayumi_Hamasaki-Appears-(Armin_Van_Buurens_Sunset_Dub)

Posted by daydreamer on Mar-26-2003 23:00:

very good point, i think this could be a factor, to alot of ppl that (to be fair) arnt really gonna see him due to where they live, but still d/l all his asots. but i have seen him 7 times all of which where over the last year and a bit, and there ARE slight changes, but thats just the style changing, not him personally being innovative.

i sincerely hope he does it... i hope does make a change, and i hope that one day he can make me like him....but far too many ppl on this forum r like 'this is my favourite DJ, if you dont like him, then your a ****' and its fucking silly, as i sed b4.... i personally hate him DJ-wise,for the fact that he gets so much praisal for doing a good job, even tho he hasnt put his soul into it... i got no time for him whatso ever, but yeah, ill gladly tune into one of his asots some day, if i feel that im gonna get some enjoyment out of it, and as soon as i feel he's doing ther right thing and moving on.

but i tell you what, im actually impressed at how structured this thread has been, give yourselves all a pat on the back

werd! i thoght this discussion was about who is the shit or not the shit, not about sumone hoos used the same bassline for a few tracks

Posted by Dom on Mar-26-2003 23:58:

he's one of my favourite dj's, but he's just a big trance dj now. His tunes arent so upfront either, he plays a lot of crowdpleasers. If he played out, like he does on ASOT then i wud rate him a lot higher.

He was my second fave. dj, that now goes to Ben Lost.

I have to agree with you here! His remix of Appears was a big part of what made me a fan in the first place, and he hasn't produced anything quite as good since then.. but come on, that tune for me is top 10 all time, you cant expect one guy to keep pumping out such tremendous quality on a yearly basis! That said, i think Song For the Ocean is a magnificent production, although it is being accused of being unoriginal.. i haven't really scrutinized it so i couldnt say, but it sounded VERY original just on first take. I cant wait for the album!! Speedracer, your point about the buildups was well taken.. but Nell appeared to be implying that any Dj who uses the same sounds repeatedly sucks, and i just had to contend against that. I agree, the classic Matt Darey buildup does beat an Armin buildup of today, but once again, Armin can't be the best all the time.. he's just the closest thing to it tright now in my book

Posted by dJohn on Mar-27-2003 03:28:

Lol...I posted something like this a while ago and I received an enourmous amount of flaming and bashing...it still evident today.
Lets get one thing straight
1. Don't ever associate DJs with god...I'm agnostic, but lets sack up and get off of Armin's, cuz he's a human just like you and I.
2. Read above.

I love Armin as an artist and producer and major player in the trance scene. His past masterpieces like Communication and his remix of Dido, Rapture and Viola are awesome. I've never seen him live, but I would love to. On the other hand....
I'm not gonna go off like I did last time, but all I can say is that I'm not one of the many hordes of Armin fan that worship him and treat him as a damn deity. His remixes of late are shit, his tracklists are repetitive, and artist send him promos for ASOT, so don't make ASOT more than it is. Or Armin for that matter. Because Armin is just another trance DJ who's hype is about to die down really quickly and horribly if you people keep this kinda "is Armin god" shit up.
Much love and respect to Armin and all trance fans out there.
Peace.

no, i mean break a new boundary..... what tiesto did was sorta go in the direction of sumthing that already existed.

look at kai tracid now, he started spinning sum sorta breed of acid tech trance, and hes doin great with it..... i think armin should just try adding different elements into tracks.... just explore

I Grown Out Of Armin Van Buuren a bit.
I Downloaded 2 of his music vids from 2001 and 2002.
I Liked His yet another day tracks. They rocked, but since then, i like quite a bit of DJ Scot Project and am checking out other DJ sets Like Jon O Bir and stuff like that that i aint listened to
But I Still Love Armins essential mix from feburary. made of mint tracks.

Keith
