How is it supposed to take 10 years to rebuild the refinaries!?!? The US has saved enough OIL plants. Where do you think the US buys oil from!?! ( before the war ) .. it bought oil from Iraq but through 3rd parties. Now, if the many refinaries saves are on US hands now or allies, how are they not to benefit the US?!?! ..

Also, I see all this talk about Syria, why didn't the US go over Syria and do them first as a threat to Iraq?!?. Syria looks to me even WORST then Iraq by the thinks you guys are mentioning here.

The reconstruction effort is not only rebuild oil refineries ... it's to rebuild the infrastructure of Iraq such as transportation systems, roads, cities, schools, etc.

Hmmm....Israel looks pretty much like Iraq to me. Since I can forsee some knucklehead claiming that "Israel doesn't use their WMD, but Iraq does!" I am going to state right now that Iraq's use of chemical weapons was encouraged by pretty much the same administration that is in power in the US today. The same Cheney/Rumsfeld/HWBush/Wolfowitz and God knows who else clique. The same evil empire, just a different boneheaded figurehead (Reagan). It is widely known fact that this administration sold Iraq chemical weapons, provided Iraq with military intelligence, supported Saddam Hussein, and looked the other way while the profits rolled in. All this because they wanted revenge on the new government in Iran that overthrew the CIA's government. Reagan admitted this in an interview. So first we sell Iraq chemical weapons, and then we bombard them with cluster bombs because they "have" them 15 years later. Secondly, another moron will tell me "Israel does not support terrorists." Well, quite frankly, they do, just not terrorists that hurt us. A few months ago, the US agreed to let Israli assasins into our country to "take out whoever they needed to fight terror." That sounds more like terrorism to me. And don't forget, Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden are enemies! Saddam Hussein has long held at bay the Islamist extremists in Iraq. And how many Iraqis were involved with 9/11?? That's right, none! Yet over 70% of Americans think that Iraq was involved! Sooner or later, Americans are going to see what a farce the American propaganda machine has cooked up this time, and this band of hethens will be exposed for what they are.

Malek, why are you protecting Syria so much? I am Lebanese, and if you have a problem with it, then fly your ass over here and tell me to my face, otherwise,keep it shut. Secondly, Lebanon is NOT PART of Syria. Lebanon is a completely indepedant state. Syria INVADED Lebanon under false pretenses...are you so fucking naive?

ok, i understand ur lebanese, and like some others in Lebanon, u don't appreciate having the syrian army and having pics of the syrian pres. and all... now, i don't want to have a huge arguement over this, but it is very well know that if the syria had not interfered and entered lebanon, things would have been much worse. ppl would have ended up killing eachother completely.
right now, the syrian army has dramaticaly reduced it's presence, and syria isn't as 'up in lebanon's business' as it used to....so chill

I don't know when was the last time u visited Lebanon, but i was there last summer.... and it's simply amazing how fast Beirut was able to rebuild itself. as u prolly know, beirut is even reffered to as a 'mini paris' or the 'paris of the ME' ..either one????

anyway.....don't go around acting like Syria freakin 'INVADED' Lebanon as if they were trying to kill everybody! ok?

Dude, why all the fucking anger? And i have no problems, i'm used to seeing all the syrians in lebanon. I don't think i'm "all that", and i'm sure as hell not a nationalist. I have no hard time admitting we were in deep shit. Any civil war is a case of deep shit, especially the lebanese one. ALL i'm saying is that the syrains over stayed their welcome, and that's a known fact. They were asked to help the government in 1976, but they stayed through to the end of the war, and are still there.

Hell, my dad, my grandad, and his dad were all baptised in a church in Syria, not too far way from the border. I would have been baptised there if i hadn't been born during the war.

Are you lebanese too? If you aren't i honestly find it cool for you to have gone there. BUT...people did kill each other completely during the war. Sure, the Syrian intercession prolly did help, but not as much as we would have still liked. True, the Syrian army has pulled a lot of its forces out of Lebanon, and they are relaxed there. BUT the syrian government does pull the puppet strings immensley (spelling) in the lebanese gov't. To understand the dynamics of that, you'd have to know the workings of the governments there. Ahlamalek, before you freak Syria does have a lot of control in Lebanon, i mean let's face it. The pres of lebanon is a complete moron, and has no f00king clue how to do his job. But the Syrian intervention has to better contributions, either.
HAVING SAID THAT, I'd greatly appreciate it, as i'm sure Malek would, if we closed this discussion.

PS: I had no clue Malek was syrian.
PPS: Beirut WAS referred to as the jewel of the ME, switzerland of the ME, etc. Also, I'd grealt appreciate it if i wasn't patronized on matters that concern my counry's history, i know it very well.

I would love to see Syria and Lebanon as democratic as let say Canada so I can go back there one day. But obviously those countries, especially syria (and Iraq too) aren't ready for such changes in a short amount of time. Also, I would love that Arabs help eachother and put their tribal intrests on the side so we can built stronger nations. Some (most) Lebanese I've met, have this hatred, almost racism against syrians which only hurts arabs in whole.
