Ugh... I am tired and weary. Will update standings in the morning. Friggin Astros - to no surprise to me, did a lot of damage today. I am actually happy it happened in game 1, as it happened in game 5 of last year's series - worst time for a big loss.

Seems like Yanks will yank it out again on the west coast. Surprised to see the red sox error being worth three runs and ultimately the game - so much reminiscent of 1986 world series

As much as the media wants you to believe it, the Buckner error did not cause the Red Sox to lose the WS. At that point in the game, it was already tied. Plus, Mookie would have came AWFULLY close to beating that out, if you watch the vid over. Anf finally... the Sox had a whole other game to put the Mets away, as that was game 6, not game 7.

Posted by Eddie N MIAMI on Oct-06-2005 04:45:

yeah it was more of Bob Stanleys fault for getting them in that situation and than poor Bills error, but oh well who cares screw the Redsox
between yesterdays blowout and todays mishaps, all this crappy red sox play has been great, heh.

I think you may have spoken too soon... bot 8th and Bengie Molina just homered to make the game 5-2 (angels).

2-0 Cards, won comfortably with limited hits today. Mulder and Carpenter looking strong, Issy looking better today also! Still got a few gears to find but looking in good shape.

the cardinals series against the padres is nothing .. they don't have the bats to destroy the cardinals rotation ..

however, the big test for the cardinals comes in game 3 and possibly game 4 .. how deep is the cardinals rotation ?? matt morris in game 3, and then after that, other starters are marquis and suppan .. not bad, but can they handle the braves / astros ???

braves handled their beating of game 1 well .. i see astros/braves going 5 ..

Posted by Shamez214 on Oct-07-2005 19:43:

The Padres lineup really isn't that bad. It only seems that way because they play in the most extreme pitchers park in all of baseball.

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Oct-07-2005 19:59:

i don't think it's a bad lineup ..

then again, it's not a great lineup ... get these lines ..

team leaders
home run - klesko (18)
hits - brian giles (164) ; and 5 other hitters over 100+ hits .. however, all 5 are below 120 hits ..
runs scored - giles (95); dave roberts (65); klesko (61)
total bases - giles (263); greene(188); klesko (185)
batting average (regular starter) : giles (301); hernandez(290); lloreta (285); roberts(275)

these stats exclude xavier nady, who could have had better stats if the padres decided to play him more during the final stretches of the season, since he had a good april .

now i know that the padres had to go through a series of players with injuries and everything, but looking at these stats, and you wonder how the padres got into the playoffs .. ???

but these stats can't match up with the cardinals pitching ...

It's a decent lineup but it's not the Cardinals lineup...

Any lineup with Poo Holes in it is imposing!

pssh .. yeah yeah poo holes is a leading candidate for mvp this year ...

but "da man" of the cardinals is clearly david eckstein .. .. who remembers that grand slam in the bottom of the 9th that he pulled out ?? he's a small guy, but has a big bat ..

I don't like Eckstein, he annoys me. I don't like small little pests.

what are you going to say next ?

"midget people piss me off" ????

hahhahaha .. kidding ..
the cardinals look like a hard team to beat this year .. i would think they would show some kind of weaknesses, since it's october, but not yet ..

You are quite right, after our two aces our pitching is mediocre at best. Bur the fact remains that the Czrds defense and offemse is quite simply immense, with Carp and Mulder this relates to almost automatic victories, with the rest it is not so assured. Marquis has been ok this year and Suppan has been a shodow of last years efforts. Morris has been improved this year but far from the ace he was brought over to be. So after our two aces our starting pitching is lacking slightly, but add awesome defense and outstanting offense and anything is possible! I think we have the Astro's number (if you believe the rumours about the last series of the season, and I do) and I believe we can beat the Braves with home field advantage. And now that the Red Sox are out I don't think any of the AL contendors can clobber us off the field! I think its looking good for us providing we finish off the Padres quickly!

GO WHITE SOX!!
I knew they had it in them, but am a tad surprised of the sweep. They did everything right in this series though. How bout El Duque in that sixth?!

Thanks magnetonium for keeping track of the points. I didnt realize you were doing anything like this until now.

Angels take the 2-1 series lead on Yankees , and White Sox sweep Red Sox. Since noone picked White Sox in 3, noone is getting that extra point . Here are TA Playoff Pool Standings after October 7:

1. dj2kTA - 16 pts (8-2) +4 pts; today: 2-0 record
1. Protege - 16 pts (8-2) +4 pts; today: 2-0 record.
1. verndogs - 16 pts (8-2) +4 pts; today: 2-0 record
------------------------------
4. Eddie N MIAMI - 14 pts (7-3) +2 pts; today: 1-1 record
5. Acid Circus - 10 pts (5-5) +2 pts; today: 1-1 record.
5. Mebot - 10 pts (5-5) +2 pts; today: 1-1 record
5. SlackerBoy9 - 10 pts (5-5) +2 pts; to: 2-0 record.
8. Dj Smitty20 - 8 pts (4-6) +0 pts; today: 0-2 record.
8. Magnetonium - 8 pts (4-6) +0 pts; today: 0-2 record.
8. Member of X - 8 pts (4-6) +0 pts; today: 0-2 record.
11. Shamez214 - 6 pts (3-7) +2 pts; today: 1-1 record.

WHITE SOX!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes it is about time my team comes through with a postseason win. I am too surprised that they swept them but they just outplayed Boston every step of the way.

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Oct-08-2005 04:42:

well...yankees really let that one get away.

fucking johnson...bah! In the old days, that would have been a 6-5 victory but the yank's pitching just isn't there. I think they can force game 5, but after that, who knows. They aren't good enough to beat the White Sox anyway.

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Oct-08-2005 08:26:

this is an interesting scenario now that the red sox failed to perform.

the white sox in the championship series against either the angels or yankees. the yankees really got hammered tonight. i don't know. if the yankees pull the next two games, then they really had to dig deep to win those games.

but imo, if the white sox plays the angels, angels in 6 .. yankees play white sox, white sox in 7.

Posted by Shamez214 on Oct-08-2005 09:55:

Ummm... the Yankees and Red Sox are both leagues better than the White Sox. Obviously, it didn't show here. But it will next year when the White Sox can't even finish higher than 3rd in their division.

White Sox v Yankees = Yankees
White Sox v. Angels = Angels

Just my opinion. Though... as a fan, I'd love to see the White Sox win the whole thing despite my hatred for them. Basically, I'd like to see the win only because I know they won't be there next year.

But... to clarify, I still pick the Braves to win the whole thing.
