Yeah, pretty nice house, the owner was the guy who had been doing the door @ Old Miami.

Haha you know Sigu? I just met him while there but he's friends with a lot of people in LA.

idk about troy pierce, but I know who else is a cock. was @ the beatport tent @ the very back, & some guy went rumbling through & knocked me back, and stumbled onto somebody's shoe. so I turned around and apologized. The guy didn't say anything, so I turned back around. He then taps me on the shoulder and says "you just stepped on bruno pronsato's favorite shoes. have a nice night" and patted me on the back and left. ass.

I'd have asked if he wanted me to shit on them just for good measure.

What. A. Prick.

Fuck, I missed Old Miami...

Good to meet some TA peeps... Mel, RJT, Clovis, Jenny, etc.

Highlight of my trip was a massive K hole at Temp Tats. Landsky was decimating the place. Jones was brilliant too.

Wait - Landsky made it in? I thought he basically arrived as the shooting happened (i.e. "Welcome to Detroit, Martin! )

In any event, it was very nice to be able to put a face to a name for you as well.

And I'm glad to see pretty much everyone had a good time at DEMF this year - the Midwest has done me proud.

He arrived while we were sitting at the table upstairs

He played for about an hour and a half till they shut it down.

Posted by epdarks on May-29-2008 04:35:

Tell me about the shooting... I didn't hear anything.

Wow. Yup, I wasn't paying much attention.

epdarks - there were three people shot basically right outside Oslo, which is why they shut down the party.

It's sad to say, but that's Detroit.

the guy i stayed with lives above oslo and he said there were about 15 shots fired, it looked like some kind of turf war between gangs.

the puddle of blood was still there when i left on tuesday

according to him stuff like that rarely happens anymore so far downtown, and that it was probably related to increased drug traffic from the festival

thank god for the air conditioning on one side of the pillar in oslo

Posted by epdarks on May-29-2008 04:47:

Thats fucking insane. We didn't even hear about that. We left to catch a cab @ 3:30 and didn't notice anything.

Posted by nefardec on May-29-2008 04:48:

if you were on clifford street you might have been hit by a stray. it was right around then

Yeah - I don't know, we kind of heard the opposite, and the last time I was at DEMF we had a knife pulled on us by a cabbie.

I think it's just kind of a lot of "wrong place, wrong time" incidents - and unfortunately every year at the festival there's always at least one incident with an out of towner (though thankfully this shooting doesn't seem to be).

as this guy put it: if you're walking down the street and you see a sketchy dude, don't feel bad about walking across the street until you're past him and then crossing back again. he said he had a friend who didn't because he felt it would have been racist - he got jumped lol

Yeah, Mathias was jumped coming out of the Works a few years ago - his face is still kind of a mess (though not at first glance - but if he shows you all the work he had to have done... god damn).

Basically after years in Detroit he pretty much told us exactly the same thing that your buddy told you - it's not racism if there's a genuine possibility that this guy is going to rob your ass.

In Detroit, that's always a possibility, therefore Racism doesn't exist in Detroit.

That is some crazy s***.. As EpDarks said we took off an heard or saw anything about a shooting..

YES! The Pillar with Air Conditioning pwned.. Thank God.. I would have died otherwise...

Damn.. Amazing Weekend.. Full Review Below..

Day 1: Got there around 4pm.. Caught the end of Justin Long and then Joris Voorn's set.. Minimal madness all around.. Voorn dropped a bunch of his sick productions.. Stayed to watch Deadmau5 tear some shit up.. He dropped Total Departure into Washmachine, which made me happy, before he dropped the ball with Not Exactally as his last track.. oh well.. Headed to main stage to catch DBX dropping some crazy shit and then Moby came on.. Moby threw it down proper, he would play some banging shit and then drop some cheese vocals, it was a roller coaster set but a good first day closer..

Day 2: Konrad Black started off the day with some moving minimal sounds.. then Heartthrob comes on a smashes out a banging hour set, followed by Paco Osuna keep the sounds going.. All good sets.. then Magda steps up.. I was hoping to hear some madness but I was disappointed to say the least.. The set went no where for two hours and All I can say is I was ready to sleep or leave.. So I left to go to the memorable Temp Tattoos after party..

Temporary Tattoos was no joke.. 300+ people packed into a 3 room dungeon.. Jamie Jones played an killer 2 hour opening set and the Martin Landsky came on to destroy brains.. Madness for an hour and half to a room packed wall to wall.. Good Times all around..

Day 3: This was by far the best day of music.. Made it in enough time to catch David Squillance dropping some nasty tracks on Beatport stage, which was a perfect setup for the man himself.. Lee Burridge came on and played for close to 2 hours.. His skills are insane.. Tracklist and overall flow of the set was epic.. I love Burridge and I can't wait to catch him again.. Wink came on after Lee and we headed over to mainstage to catch the end of Cobblestone Jazz going crazy live.. Followed by a straight mind rape from Paul Ritch.. His set was so destructive.. by far one of the best acts from the weekend.. After Ritch, we headed back over to Beatport stage for the end of Winks set, which was ehhh, and then Dubfire came on to close.. He dropped madness to close out the festival.. Crazy sounds and sick basslines.. His productions are mind blowing as of late.. I would love to see him in a club... Great ending to a great weekend..

Hart Plaza is an amazing spot to have this event.. You have the River and Canada on one side and Detroit on the other.. The weather was perfect for the event and having all of the TA's out in full force made it an amazing time... It was awesome meeting MellyMel (finally!), JennyPie, Lucid, RJT, Techniquez, Clovis, Gypsy Girl, and everyone else! Props to Habs and EpDarks for joining me on the crazy journey.. TA's are an amazing group of awesome and crazy people...

Pros: Artist walking around everywhere! Met Richie Hawtin, Lee Burridge, Adultnapper, and many others; Weather; Friends; Cost of Flight/Hotel; Location; Jimmy Johns!

Cons: No Food Downtown; Detroit is rough city; Good Hotels are expensive; Transportation is somewhat of a challenge

Memorable Moment: Lee Burridge dropping Time Zero and then watching Paul Ritch drop it again right after words.. F***ing nasty track...

I've heard plenty of stories about Detroit and how "hard" it is, but after riding the city bus 5 or more times to and from DEMF, I didn't see what all the fuss was about.

You're still only talking about one trip here bro - and during the busiest tourist weekend of the year (with three, count em, three major Detroit sporting events going on - two within a few blocks of each other).

There are plenty of people on TA alone who can tell you first hand how "hard" the D can be, and most of the stories don't end with enjoyable bus-rides.

Some have tolerable ambulance rides though.

accoding to someone from nyc:

quote:
this is what happened outside of oslo......... no machine guns....... just a hand gun!

i'm staying at a friend's loft on broadway just three floors above small plates. around 1am there was a flurry of gun fire and i stuck my head out the window. a young twenties afro thug was running up john r onto the corner of broadway. he shouldered a car coming off the light and that is when i noticed the pistol in his hand. he was with three other bros and they were all shouting at one another about "keeping it cool" and that if they didn't "chill the fuck out," older thug was going to "take them out myself." they proceeded up broadway toward the opera house...all the while thug boy was swinging his piece.

something was happening down broadway toward bert's but this was well before the shots were fired. a traffic enforcement unit was rolling up broadway and the thug with the gun proceeds to walk straight up to the cop car with his gun still in his hand to tell the cop that he and his sister were just shot at. not only was this moron stupid enough to be brandishing his piece in front of a cop, the cop jumped out of his car and stuck his gun in the thugs chest. the other three dudes are all like "what the fuck are you doing?" another couple of cars show up immediately and the gun thug is cuffed and across the hood of the cruiser and the other two white tees are on the street, spreadeagle with guns pointed at them. the third guy (black shirt btw) that was the one that was going to "take them out." was just walking around taliking on his phone. i guess since all three of the thugs now in custody were wearing the white tee thugwear they were all lumped together as perps. now the gun dude is in cuffs and his sister or something like that comes around the corner off of john r in hysterics cause she had been shot at. she walks right up to the cops and proceeds to tell her story. nothing much happened of consequence after this except that the cops really just milled around broadway and i am assuming most of the investigative work was going on over on john r. two detectives were taking statements from the three white tees and shaniqua but the fourth dude was nowhere to be seen. this went on until 4ish and i didn't leave the loft.

heard this am that there were no fatalities; however three people were shot. all told there were about 18 shots fired, although it was tough to get a more accurate count. dudes rounds were spent and no one else in the posse was packing. the thuggette walked as did the fourth dude but the three white tees were taken into custody. i have no idea what was going on on john r or woodward, but what i can assume is that these thugs were pretty bad shots. that's about all i could piece together from what i heard and saw. i am glad i decided to chill and watch red dragon rather than venture down to oslo...

Posted by MeLLyMeL on May-29-2008 13:58:

Dunno

Really.. I didn't notice anything bad. I had 3 ppl come up asking me for money throughout this trip and that's nothing like NY and Miami.

I left oslo at 2:30 and didn't notice anything. It was actually a pretty quiet walk back home. shhhhhhh let's not tell my bf or he'll flip lol.
