How are they to drive? Do you have to wind the piss out of the engine the get anything out of it? I bet it handles like a go-kart.

yes its like a gokart, its only 1000kg and 120hp, and being so small its quite cocky in traffic.. its my type of car 100% citroen saxo is also good, its almost the same design, but 106gti/rallye are suppose to be a little better

Just an interesting snapshot

A Japan GT race car passes a bus carrying spectators during the Japan GT Circuit Safari at Sepang International Circuit in Sepang, Malaysia, Sunday, June 24, 2007. Like animal watching in safari parks, fans would be placed on low-loader buses going around the track while the drivers and their mean race GT500 and GT300 machines go against each other around the twisty 5.543-kilometer track.

Also, have any of you been to a 24 Hours LeMons event?

Has anyone here ever started a project like that?

FYI: Abarth is a brand of its own, they are licensed to sell the 500's under their own name. You won't find a single reference to Fiat on an Abarth 500. There's no such thing as a Fiat 500 Abarth (essentially, they're competitors in this way).

I've been to LeMans twice, and will be going back again this year.

It's great racing value. Bring a backpack full of beer and red bull and it's a great time. Fantastic atmosphere.

hahaha shit, good call! I totally missed that (and didn't even click the link lolfail

I've only seen the LeMons on tv but it would be totally something that me and my asshole friends from back home would enter. We'd be total pro's based on the years of automotive buggery we've been through.

I totally would have taken one of my old 1st gen Golf's into something like that to give it it's final run for glory.

Or my 1988 Mazda 323 GTX would have been even better!!!

One of the best choices there is imo. If I ever get down to starting a project, I'd build a Cobra replica as well, awesome car. Though you really have to put in some (a lot of) extra effort to make it stand out from all the other replicas out there.

A well built Cobra is a sweet kit car for sure.

If I were building something myself though, I would buy a Caterham 7 kit instead

Something like this one?

As a kit, this seems to be a good and popular choice. They look like they're very fun to drive as well! However, personally I really do not like the look of rear end of the car, it's a bit too golf cart-like for me.

that park bench wing on the viper needs to go. other then that, that car is the sex. surprising because i hate vipers. lol

Exactly. They're simple, clean, and very light and fun. The back end is classic, but certainly not to everyone's tastes I will admit.

If I could afford it, I'd drop the 35k gbp on a factory built Caterham R500 Superlight since it's just buckets of fun and supercar performance.

Ah... 2nd year in a row I've helped build something similarly fun to drive:
