Yeah - I think it's about time we start to figure out how to pay for our own server. It's great that Jake has been so gracious with the one he and his friends own, but honestly - there's no way I'd have abused the server like you gentlemen did the last few nights.

Though, I'm sure the sets were massive

Posted by nick84 on Jan-14-2007 18:32:

ohhhh WOOPS, thats not so much a buzzkill as a reality check man...sorry about that, as greg said, maybe we got a bit carried away?

i'd be willing to make some form of contribution but im still a noob with the broadcasts so start throwin some suggestions guys lol

Posted by RJT on Jan-14-2007 18:36:

Purchasing our own shoutcast server would be a start - and if enough people threw down loot, it'd be relatively cheap.

The only problem would come when people wanted to play at a certain time, or if people who didn't contribute were told they couldn't play - something I really don't want to happen.

I don't know - it's Jake's call as it's his server, but honestly - is it that hard to courteously use something someone else has loaned you?

If it were my server, I'd have probably been a bit more upset than Jake was. Bandwidth is expensive - I've definitely looked into it, and know that I can't afford it.

Posted by idoru on Jan-14-2007 22:35:

Actually, Rob, it's not based off of bandwidth. Just check out the Fast Serv website. However...

There used to be radio done on an IRC channel through a server that a UKTA hosted. Now that that TA is no longer paying for the hosting, Nou stepped-in and purchased his own server. The only real use it gets is through us TAs who use IRC. Nou is more than willing to let us use it whenever we want for however long we want, providing we keep all of Saturday free for the weekly IRC radio we do.

20 slots for listeners at 128kbps. It's almost identical to what we've already been using, but without the hassle of non-TA folk.

Dude, let it go - we asked both times, I was online the whole time if there was an issue, and we had no idea there was an issue in the first place.

Sheesh.

Posted by nick84 on Jan-14-2007 23:25:

yeaaa RJT we were very courteous, we were just unaware of any issues. no need to talk shit man. did Jake mention that it was an issue to you?

Posted by idoru on Jan-14-2007 23:55:

I just want to clarify a few things here...

- I haven't discussed anything one-on-one regarding this issue with anybody, because there's nothing that warrants such a discussion.

- I did okay Greg & Co. to spin. However, there was failure on both of our ends to mention how long it would be for. Had I known it was going to be another six-hour session I would've requested it shorter, but I don't think even Greg/Nick knew that was going to happen.

- At the time of my okaying it, there was no problem. I left for work shortly after they began, and arrived home to multiple messages on MSN bugging me about what the hell was going on. The server is used randomnly by those of us who have been using it for a while now, and when you guys had been going and going, everybody got confused and a little upset.

- Cost is not an issue here, which is why none of us are really pissed. It's just X amount of money a month, that's it.

- We still have a free server available to us that Nou purchased the other day. We'll be able to use it every day of the week except Saturdays. There's no need for any of us to fork over any cash unless his server no longer becomes available to us.

Any questions?

When I get new tunes, and I'm not tired.

Points taken. From the impression I got from, I didn't think there was much demand for the server. We just kept going and going. Apologies to the people who were confused/angered/unable to broadcast because of our session. By no means did we mean to take advantage. It wasn't like thought one minute "Let's keep spinning so those other punks who occasionally use the server can't".

Scheduling sounds like a great idea. I wouldn't mind helping out with organizing DJs/timeslots in the slightest. Eventually we might be able to turn this into somewhat of a TA radio station of sorts!

And again, apologies to those affected by out b33tz.

Posted by idoru on Jan-15-2007 00:09:

While I like the idea of scheduling, there are some of us who have retail jobs and work odd hours of the week with uncertain shifts. I'd vote we just go ahead and continue using Nou's server like we have the previous one; if ya feel like mixing and nobody's on it, go for it.

Posted by Frenchie on Jan-15-2007 00:13:

So who has the sick Sunday set up their sleeves?

Sounds good, I agree, this shouldnt be a radio-station..

Frenchie, me and bas are gonna watch Jackass 2 in a bit, but we might play later. I've moved my decks to my computer side of the room so I can stream/record etc from the CDJs now

Posted by idoru on Jan-15-2007 00:22:

To anyone interested in spinning, PM me for the new server details.

Posted by Allied Nations on Jan-15-2007 00:23:

I think possibly having an open schedule and being able to "book" a timeslot might work. Not set in stone timeslots etc. Something like Freecast.

Awesome. Sounds good.

This is Nou.

You guys are welcome to use my server. I got it for #ukta radio, so saturdays are the only days where its pretty much booked up solid, but its usually only about 11am-5pm PST (7pm-2am GMT?)

I'm thinking about setting up a site for people to book timeslots so there isnt any conflict and bickering as well.

In the end users will probably have to sign up for the site to get the password for the server and provide your TA username which I will verify you are who you are. You can give it out to friends but I'd like to know at least a little bit who is using it.

Remember this is a GIFT and a privilage, not a right. I'm not setting any rules really, just don't broadcast shit thats going to get me or anyone else in trouble... keep it music, not talk radio (though I doubt thats going to be a problem) and if its music don't be playing fucking nazi punk or retarded shit like that.

If you have any questions you can find me on irc in #ourfriends or #ourboard usually. Most people know the server (ITS NOT WEBCHAT ANYMORE!)

I hope you guys enjoy.

Till the site is up and running (which might take forever lol) its a free for all. PM Idoru for server info since this account will most like be banned as soon as I post this.

Posted by Clovis on Jan-15-2007 01:05:

lol, cool Nou, thnx.

I don't own any Nazi punk records...

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Jan-15-2007 01:10:

How about Nazi house or Nazi trance?

Or -- Nazi minimal!
