BOTH countries won the most medals ever in their countries respective histories! Thats AWESOME.



Canada did well in their home country, and the USA did well in the winter games, which they have not always been *as* competitive in, as opposed to summer.



We should be happy that both of our countries are making progress and giving us games worth cheering about!!



Jeff: I see your point, but please can we NOT talk about population ALL over again for the sake of our sanity? Please refer back a few pages....

Population is only a very small factor and it shouldn't be used to justify not getting as many medals. Canada and the US both had over 200 athletes at the games. Yes, the US has a larger population to choose athletes from but when you are talking about the top two or three from each sport the actual athletic skills are not that different. The biggest difference is in funding for training, technology, etc.

Dude, just let it go. Some people prefer winning more medals, some prefer winning more golds. Its a subjective thing, and you can argue all day long, but it wont change anybodys minds.

you are right...we should all be happy for how well our countries athletes performed in these games....but I do have to point out again that the USA is number two for overall winter olympic medals so you have always been as competitive in the winter as you have the summer olympics.

I don't mean to be rude but why are their a couple of people from across the border trying to debate in a thread where we Canadians were simply wanting to pat ourselves on the back and dabble in a little bit of Nationalism? IMO it's something we greatly lack.

WTF. Let us have our fun. We had more than one media outlet bash our Country in the past few weeks and as far as I know, we haven't fired back at all. We let our success do the talking. It seems to me that there seems to be a bit of international sour grapes goin on here. Probably because everyone got used to the quiet, unasssuming nation of Canada.

I'm sorry but I've seen and heard more than my share of American grand standing and I actually think it rubs some the wrong way to see Canada succeed like this. It's like we're the ugly step sister that has thrown off her coke bottle glasses and shed her baggy clothes only to reveal a smokin body with a saweeet face.
Like I told my husband last night, we're like the chick from that movie She's All That. Nobody would have guessed but now they know!!

Size and funding absolutely influence the winter Olympics. That's why you don't see really poor countries being able to compete; equipment and training is expensive for winter sports.
