Does the 400 have vinyl mode?
It mentions scratch effects, but it wasn't clear.
That's always a fear of mine. Buying something, and then like the next day or month or something a new version of the same thing came out, or that same product went on sale. Like i just bought some tennis shoes for 110 and the next day they go on sale for 90.

I'm the same but on the plus side it means we don't have all that much else that is serious to worry about.

Check it out folks. This is my first setup ever. I've got a djm800 hooked up to two cdj1000(mk3)'s and my desktop, which controls Ableton using the mixer's midi-controllable knobs. I also picked up a pair of technics rpdh1200's

tell me what you think!

and idoru... get the 1000's... i picked up some 800's yesterday and immediately returned them for these.

yes, the cdj400 has vinyl mode... however, that's about the only thing it has goin for it. It's got midi-controllable knobs and sliders (but those are sort of inconvenient being on a cd player rather than a mixer -- though it is still possible to use them for ableton or whatever you use). It's also got a usb connection to it, but that's hardly a reason to pay $400 USD extra per unit. You can just as easily and for much cheaper get a better midi controller. You probably made the right choice with the 200's even though you think you didn't. Also, since the cdj400's just came out, there aren't very many reviews on em yet. Unless you realllly reallly love scratching, you were probably right to steer clear of the 400's. And if you love scratching that much, why not spend the extra money on the 800's or 1000's and have a bigger scratch platter? 800's are almost the same price as the 400's, though I would never go back to those now that I have the 1000's.

damn, that mixer looks sexy with the mk3's...
if anyone in vancouver has a brand new djm 800 that wants a brand new xone 92 rotary i'd like to trade!!

nice one Sashwat have fun mixing on the new setup looks nice.

Posted by stan229 on Dec-25-2007 05:40:

thats one hella first setup
question though, are you using ableton primarily for the music or as a sampler? if youre gonna feed all your music off ableton you dont need the CDJs..

I'm just using ableton since I'm good with it and like how I can control the effects on it through the mixer... the cdj's are simply because I want to learn how to groove out on more than just ableton. haha, yes, i know i know, the cdj1000's are probably not the best place to start... but then again, aren't they?

but to answer your original question, yes, i'm using ableton for playing music and adding extra effects. I'm not much of a sampler(er)/scratcher (not yet, at least). BUT, I've been practicing mixing without ableton for the time being so i can get a hang of the players... i feel that's the only way i'll get good on them (rather than relying on ableton all the time to do my mixing for me )

the xone's are nice, but the buttons are really close together and there's no lcd screen plus i like the black color much more! haha, i love how my 3 main reasons for choosing the 800 over the 92 all have to do with appearance.

haha yea, i love the filters on the xone tho. i wanna start getting into hiphop tho, and the crossfader on the xone isnt too good.

though I haven't actually used a xone, I can say that the weakest part of the djm800 is definitely the crossfader... definitely not something you wanna be very aggressive with (definitely not a crossfader I would suggest for hip hop)

Everyone puts ableton in their pics because they want to look cool and pretend they know how to use both at the same time as good as James Zabiela,

I'm selling my 500

You could get that and pretend you have an 800.

Or maybe they are actually, I don't know, using it?

Posted by jupiterone on Dec-30-2007 01:14:

Oh Christ. This forum has become so daft and predictable lately. Now it's not even fine to put Ableton in your pictures because people claim one does it to look 'cool'. Maybe it's because they actually USE it and is considered part of their setup?

Woopteefuckingdoo.

Dude, are you crazy? stick with the 92 - when the novelty of those "toy" effects wear off your left with a mixer that is way below the quality of the 92.

However if it's because you like the feel of it or you feel more at home then fair enough.

i have to admit the filters on the 92 sound amazing.

right now...

$345 with in-the-usa shipping

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...s=tab%3DSelling

three days left. But I thought you already had a Xone 92 which would make this purchase rather pointless, haha.
