Just looked at Runs Scored. The Nationals have scored more runs than... NO ONE. They are the lowest scoring team in the majors. 382 runs. The closest team is the Pirates with 388. After that... the Astros with 407.

I still don't understand why you think they (Nationals) are overrated? Because they've been in first place for a month and win by close margins?

Like you said, they have no outstanding statistics to boast about, so I don't understand how they can be overrated.

and just because we got slammed last night 14-1, doesn't mean we're finished yet. We won tonight and hopefully tie the series against the 'Stros tomorrow.

Guerrero is being a Yankee killer in the Angels series, with 2 go-ahead (and game-winning) home runs.
Yanks have four 150-game winners pitching in this series, but are in danger of getting swept
Now the A's are ahead of the Yanks in the AL wild card race

Mets weren't looking too good right before the All-Star break, but they now have a better record than the Padres, the first-place team in the NL West
They were tied for 2nd in the NL wild card race before Friday's loss to the Dodgers. Hopefully they'll at least just keep playing steadily, and as well as they have so far in the 2nd half. Beltran is hitting better. Reyes was awesome in Saturday's win, which happened despite Pedro not being at his best. The starting rotation had 8 quality starts in a row.

They have no outstanding statistics. And that is why they are overrated. I'm not talking about by baseball fans who know what they're talking about. I'm talking about the Baseball Tonight crew and other media. Because they were in first for so long, they got WAYYYYY more props than they deserved.

I have no faith in them keeping anything up. They're a good team, but not better than any other team in the NL East.

Mets are 6 out of 7 and 8 out of 11. Offense finally starting to look alive. Beltran showing he's healthy again. Way above average defense in the OF. Wright has hit in 11 straight. Piazza has 3 HRs in 7 games since the AS break. Getting a curtain call after every HR he gets. Things are looking up. Even if they finish 3rd, the Mets improved a lot this year. Could be the begining of something sweet in Flushing, Queens.

Posted by partyhopper on Jul-25-2005 00:25:

10 HR's to go to #400 for Piazza
If he continues playing the way that he has of late, then it seems that he should be able to get closer to that after the upcoming games in Coors Field and Minute Maid Park
He's like Giambi - when he's hitting well, it makes a huge difference in the lineup

also, 6 wins to go to #200 for Pedro
He got his 2800th strikeout last Saturday, so he should be able to get 3000 next year

Schilling blows another one. its looks as if the Yankees are going to be handed this division with 2 legit starters.

And I wonder why I think Manny Ramirez is a piece of crap.

Hmmmm....

Lucchino also said he didn't know the left fielder's motivation for refusing manager Terry Francona's request to play Wednesday afternoon's game at Tampa Bay after another outfielder, Trot Nixon, was sidelined with a strained muscle in his side.

Posted by Highmay on Jul-29-2005 04:57:

they won today ...great...

but they picked up chacon...now, can someone please explain to me why theyre pickin up the worst pitchers in baseball this year?? if my math is correct, lieter, nomo, and chacon have a combined record of 9 - 22...WTF??? is it that fucking hard to get a frontline starter?? its THAT FUCKING HARD???!!@@!!

Okay. You name me a starter that you want. And THEN... I want you to tell me what the Yankees can give up to get that starter.

::ahem::

I want Manny. I'll trade my mom for him.

How 'bout we get rid of Johnson and get to better starters for his salary....just a thought

Nah, I'd rather not. I'll keep Cano, Wang, Duncan, Hughes, etc. I am ecstatic Cashman isn't willing to trade the future for some "3rd" starter options that are available. Who do you want that they could get? Kevin Millwood? It's not a buyers market but hopefully the sellers will lower their demands right before the deadline. But I don't think it's gonna happen. Chacon is at least better than Nomo or Leiter. Nomo is statistically the worst pitcher in major league baseball. He sucks. We all know about Leiter and his dreadful WHIP. YOWZERS that game was excruciatingly boring he pitched the other night.

Ball.... ball..... ball....

Soriano to the Cubbies. Alright I like that rumor. My brother-in-law is a huge Cubbies fan so I'd be happy for him. I love Sori even though he was swinging at pitches 22 feet outside of the strike zone in the world series.

Only the Yankees can take on a contract that big at his age. He's part of the solution, not the problem.

Pavano and Wright will be back soon to post ERA's of 6 plus, so don't fret.... oh wait a minute. At least we got Kevin Brown...

I saw Brown shirts at the Yankees store today. WTF! But I noticed there was a sale -$20.00. They would pay you to take the shirt. Sorry, no thanks!

probably old news to most of you by now, but anyways...
so do the Mets and their fans
Would be awesome if that happens
There's a proposed 3-way trade in which Mets would also get Baez and Lugo from the Devil Rays
Mets would deal Cameron and Heilman to BoSox, prospects Petit and Milledge to D-Rays
D-Rays also get some prospects from BoSox, and would send Aubrey Huff to BoSox

Yankee fans would probably love that too. No Manny on BoSox, and without Danys, they might have a better chance to beat the Devil Rays

great ending but an ugly win today...

Posted by Vlad on Jul-30-2005 21:16:

Looks like the Yanks are on a pitching shopping spree...

Hideo Nomo, Shawn Chacon, Alan Embree

Only the 7th inning was ugly.

Mariano in the top of the 9th was a pitching machine, it was beautiful.

And I think Giambi is the player of the month, they guy is hitting everything, on top of that, he leads in OBP.

Agreed but both you and I will take it. At least Chacon looked strong. Our 5th starters this year have an ERA of 7.92. That's not too good.

Rivera is having the best year of his career in my opinion. ERA now lower than 0.83. He's given up 22 hits in 44.1 innings!! That's just sick. 51 K's in 44 innings which his highest ratio since 1996. Batting average against is .145 and his WHIP is 0.76.

Mo is simply my favorite Yankee for the past 10 years. The best closer IN THE HISTORY OF BASEBALL!
