ALCS Picks:
Best Picks (current ranking in terms of chances at success - in brackets is chosen winner).
If Yankees will win today, then participants under B, followed by D (in success priority order) will benefit the most.
If Angels will win, then participants under A, followed by C (in success priority order) will benefit the most in this pool.
Of course, this also depends on other factors (ex. NLCS).

A. Angels vs. White Sox - dj2kTA (White Sox), Protege (White Sox), verndogs (Angels)

B. Yankees vs. White Sox - Eddie N MIAMI (Yankees)

C. Angels vs. Red Sox - Acid Circus (Red Sox),Mebot (Angels) <-- best chance for this group, Shamez214 (Red Sox), SlackerBoy9 (Red Sox)

D. Yankees vs. Red Sox - Dj Smitty20 (Yankees), Magnetonium (Yankees), Member of X (Yankees)

so I can't really win this pool can I, since if the Yankees lose, only the Cards will be left from my original picks? Ah well...I don't think anybody thought the BoSox would get swept and I shouldn't have underestimated the Astros.

Picks for Game 5 tonight? I say Yanks in a tight game...maybe 4-3 with Rivera closing out two innings again...as long as Moose doesn't bomb it.

Posted by Magnetonium on Oct-11-2005 03:23:

One thing for sure, you'll NEED Yankees to win tonight, or else you'll finish in the middle of the pack Same probably for me, even though I got both series in NL right. The reason why is because a lot of TAs here picked the Cardinals, so they are getting the same points as me from NL. Without Yankees win tonight, I'll be probably eliminated from winning this pool too ...

im not sure who's going to win but what a call by that ump. as my dad put it, "its just a case of an ump wanting to make a call." i know some people are going to disagree but as cano was coming down the line erstad was blocking the outside part of the bag and it looked like the only play for cano was to go to the inside part to avoid a collision. very controversial call. i know as the runner you are supposed to stay in the box but i think a no call would have been better.

It seems like a lot of people do after looking at everyones predictions

Posted by dj2kTA on Oct-11-2005 03:51:

Angels are in, thats good for my picks here but I'd rather have my White Sox playing the Yanks. The Angels' pitching is damn good.

Let the games begin

That very well could've been the deciding factor in the ballgame (aside from Crosby and Sheffield colliding in the 2nd inning)...

I'm going to check the NYTA forums and see how they're reacting to this call.

I'll update the Pool Standings with all the stats and all in a few minutes. Prepare for the big moment of who's gonna need who to win in next series ... I'll try to put up detailed statistics!

Also great job by Ervina Santana, phenomenal pitching job for the rookie keeping the Yankees' bats silent until Jeter's walk off homer in the 7th.

They're not. No one seems to care. It's like they all knew the Yankees were going to lose.

Ehhh... they have a good bullpen. But that's about it. I don't like their starters at all, beyond Washburn.

well hopefully that rings true and the Sox offense can break through. I wonder how seriously Colon is hurt. That'd be huge for the Sox if he's not as effective as usual.

Points System for League Championship Round:

Each game won by the Chosen Team (4 POINTS) - if you have any in this round!

Runner-up Points (per win) 2 POINTS - points per win for the team that you picked to advance to this round, but didnt select it to advance to the next round.

Each correct series match-up prediction (3 POINTS)
Chosen team wins the series (1 POINT)
Series won in exact number of games by the Chosen Team (1 POINT) - this applies to the Chosen Team to WIN in that round - that is, if it had made it this far!

Current favourites to win this pool (current rank):

#1. dj2kTA: if White Sox and Cardinals win, he has a strong shot at winning the pool.

#2. Protege: same as dj2kTA, however, in the World Series, he will need his Cardinals to win. Then it will be a close finish. Unless Cardinals win in 6 games or less!

#3. verndogs: needs Angels AND Astros to pull off tremendous upsets - highly unlikely at this moment.

#4. Mebot: even though he is currently looking far behind the leaderboard, if both Cardinals and Angels make the World Series and Angels go deep there (they MUST!), he has a strong chance at winning this thing.

Eliminated from winning the pool:

Shamez214
Slackerboy9
Dj Smitty20

thanks for keeping the pool up-to-date, mag. Great work

now on to the Championship Series!

the call on Cano was fucking horseshit (did Joe West have money on Anaheim or what?)...and I don't know what the HELL sheffield was doing...the centre fielder calls the balls and the left and right fielders should back off. But Mr. Fucking Glory Seeker has to fuck up what would have been an inning ending catch by Crosby.

I'm starting to wonder whether it was wise bringing in Arod. Sure, he's awesome in the season but he IS NOT A CLUTCH HITTER, which is what the Dynasty Yankees have always had, most notably the recent era. Give me Paul O'Neil for Sheffield any day....I don't care about the season numbers. Give me Tino in his prime over Giambi any day and so on and so on.

This doesn't feel as bad as last year, or 2001 and 2003 but...the offseason will be interesting. Thanks Bernie Williams, by the way, because you won't be coming back.

I can tell you one thing, I bet Lots of people in the yankees staff are gonna be fired tomorrow, lol.

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Oct-11-2005 08:50:

Everybody goes on and on about the Yankees' payroll. Money doesn't buy you championships. In 96, their payroll was 52 million...in 2000, their last Series title, it was still less than 100. Winning in the post season takes more than money...a quality in players you just don't see very often.

Arod has proven, so far at least, that he DOES NOT have it. Neither does Mussina (although I still like him), nor Sheffield the Glory Seeker, nor Giambi, etc. Guys like Paul O'Neil, Scott Broscius, Tino Martinez in his younger days, Derek Jeter, Roger Clemens, Andy Petitte, Curt Schilling (even though I hate him) David Ortiz, Mariano Rivera...these guys are real winners.

I'm sorry to turn on Arod but his effort disgusted me. He's really going to get it from yankee fans this off season and unlike last year, frankly, he deserves it.

I don't want to see Torre go. This isn't his fault...he deserves a raise for even getting this team to the playoffs.

Anyway, on to the next round. I like White Sox in 6 and Astros in 7.

The call on Cano was somewhat strange, but if anyone should have caught that fly ball, it was Sheffield. The ball was drifting in to him. I don't know if Crosby even called the ball, but I think it's safe to say that even if he did, the crowd noise made sure that no one was able to hear it.

Without ARod the Yankees wouldn't even be in the postseason, but he was pretty much useless this postseason...

the umpire called cano out at first for interferring with the throw of molina down to first. the ump said that he was out of the base path. if you get a chance to watch sportscenter it should be on there. i forget exactly what the situation was but i think there were runners on second and third and two outs (although it could have been first and second).

Aaah. Well, it seems like both Yankees and Braves have been disappointing their organizations in the last 5 years - for this I am considering payrolls and coaching/ownership/scouting. Clearly both teams have been doing something wrong.

But unlike in the Braves organization, I think in Yankees' someone is going to get axed this offseason. More than one. Steinbrenner is going to be looooooose! Left and right, left and right, he'll be chopping those positions down (and payroll)!

Steinbrenner should really remove himself from meddling with the team.

As for the Braves, it was really a rebuilding year, so it can't be that disappointing even with all these early playoff exits.

some people never learn do they

Cashman and most of the pitching will be gone, hitters will probably stay in tact other than a couple of obvious moves in the outfield.
Yanks just have to dedicate more time into their farm system rather than buying 30/40 something pitchers year in year out. Money dosnt always buy good pitching.

anyways i like the new blood on the ALCS, and the NLCS rematch, should be fun
