The Astor theatre will be showing between 20-30 march.. *drumroll*
GRINDHOUSE!!
yes that's right... GRINDHOUSE! not the 2 movies seperately. For those that have boycotted the split, you can now watch the damn thing as originally intended!

Enjoy!! ++

never seen a horror movie that was both quite scary and totally hilarious. evil dead 2 tried this but failed miserably imo. the black comedy in this film is fantastic, yet a few moments later you're tense as all hell. i was really impressed with the way the movie managed to do both equally well, without compromising each other.

this film was a breath of fresh air from what i consider the most problematic genre. there are some really clever choices by the writers which make some scenes really subtle yet hilarious. i watch a lot of horror flicks compared to other stuff these days and it definitely more successful at pushing your buttons than most of the competition.

moff plays a very similar character as the one from human traffic, and he's so fucking good if anyone has seen it and can recommend something similar id love to hear from you.

mandi, i reckon you gotta check it out

5 torture scenes out of 5.

Grindhouse.. best movie this year. If you haven't seen it, or only seen Planet Terror and/or Death Proof separately, see grind house. The extra trailers are worth it alone.
I think finishes tomorrow at astor so hurry.

took a break from thesis writing today and watched:

Cloverfield.

Cool monster. I liked the whole film being from cmacorder POV. What I didn't like was the dialogue. Student American 20-somethings. But it was enjoyable, and went for the right [short] amount of time.

Would recommend it, not highly, mainly for the monster

Posted by Aesthetic on Apr-07-2008 03:13:

yeah i saw cloverfield on the weekend too, it was alright.. i wish they wouldve explained more about what the monster was/where it came from, and whatever.. but for what it was, it as good

Posted by christos on Apr-07-2008 03:18:

yeah noticed the same thing Dave, good concept, keeps you wondering the whole way through....part 2 would answer quite a few questions I hope. I love how the head of the statue of liberty was smashed for six!

i think the point was to have the movie entirely from a naive point of view.

is there going to be a part 2? don't think it needs it

didn't know there was a terminator 4 on the horizon, apparently Christian Bale stars as John Connor....I reckon he'd play that role well.

yeah nice I saw that on IMDB a few months back they had Bale only as rumoured but yeah now it looks like he actually on-board, which is cool.

Not sure about the director though, same guy that did Charlies Angels!

I am going to watch that Across the Universe ASAP jolz! looks good!

Death Race 2000 (1975)

David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone headline this awesome piece of awesomeness.

In an future world run by an oppressive tyrant, brave men and women take part in a race across the country. Not only the winner takes all, but the highest scorer, with the racers racking up points by running down bystanders and spectators. I'm not making this up, honestly.

You ever wonder where the joke about old people being "double points" came from? This movie.

Yes, the racers run down people during the race. Hilarity ensues.

This is one absolute piece of gold of a movie. It honestly is one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time.

Did I mention its awesome?

oh yeah, and theres boobs.

Theres a remake (well, very loosely based on the original) coming out soon with Jason Statham, which really will be a poor cousin of this movie.

Seeing Batman at the Imax tomorrow, gonna be wicked! I saw the movie last week so I already know it's bloody brilliant. Can't wait for the massive screen

Posted by Fpcookie on Aug-13-2008 04:57:

i saw it for a second time at IMAX too

holy jeebus that is one big fuck off screen

the cityscapes look absolutely brilliant on it

Been watching lots of movies lately... the best was Hunger. Very full on + graphic but it's justified. Need to be in the right headspace to watch it as it leaves you in a pretty solemn mood.

Saw Burn After Reading too, didn't have high expectations but really liked it, it's worth a watch.

Posted by Light The Fuse on Jan-18-2009 23:47:

saw the wrestler last week.

not bad - mickey rourke was good and marissa tommie is a robobabe.

its getting massive reviews and oscar buzz n stuff - but i thought it was just okay 7.5/10

last scene is a tearjerker for sure

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Jan-19-2009 00:26:

saw george clooney's good night, and good luck.
