Hey everyone! I just joined the forums & I've lived in Minnesota my whole life pretty much so I figured I'd introduce myself.
Name's Ian & I've been listening to trance on & off since i was like 16, but solidly only this past year or so (I'm 18). I'm just kinda getting started going to shows & everything (went to Ferry last Fri), but I'll be going to a lot more this next year so I hope to see some of you guys there. I grew up in Plymouth, but I'm up at NDSU in Fargo for college right now. I come down for the weekend sometimes & trance shows of course =P. Hit me up if you wanna know anything else!?
Oh and just so ya know sweetcheeks, I'm pretty sure BT go moved back to Halloween (10/31) @ Foundation. Should be a blast!

Wow, what a great show last night! Eric destroyed Foundation, on a Sunday no doubt! Really dark electro/tech house at the beginning of the night had me going crazy (Can you say bass heavy). He didn't drop a single Prydz production until around 1:15AM with Muranyi which had the place in an uproar. Soon to follow was Adam Freeland - Silverlake Pills (Gui Burrato Remix) really got me going as that track sounded awesome on that large system.
Then comes the last 25 minutes of the show, I start faintly hearing 'I can't even remember' 'I can't even remember' repeating softly through the Transition from the previous track, that's when I officialy lost my marbles. By the time the Electro bass line dropped in I was off the walls (If you don't recognize those lyrics he dropped Pryda - Remember).
Soon to follow was a melee a tracks that blew the roof off the place. The 'Sweet Dreams Are Made of These' hook comes blasting in and the whole crowd in unison gives a fist pumping roar that I won't soon forget. He transistions out of that into Pryda - Genesis, great placement of that tune in the set, I was once again mind-fucked. After Genesis he gives us about a three minute bass-teaser when you finally starting hearing a solid high pitched note gradually gaining volume through the speakers. I thought to myself "I recognize this one" but I couldn't put my finger on it quite yet. The bass dropped out and then I new it. Here comes Proper Education!
I turn to my buddy Austin and yell: "We don't need no Education!" in his ear, he gave me a funny look and a split second later, you hear the same thing come through the speakers. Everybody had officially lost there minds in that club. Jumpin' & Yellin' like I had never heard at foundation. I of course was one of 'em.
That was the last track of the night, except for the encore track which I didn't recognize. I was so tired from dancing so hard that the simple drop in energy (from stopping proper education and then just upfading the new track), I was able to dance it out, but I looked like I'd been kicked in the pelvis.
All in all it was one of the best shows of the year for me. Even my friends whom are mainly Trance enthusiasts had a great time last night. Thank you SIM for another spectacular show.

Thursday, October 18th
Eccentric Beats, Abiotic/Enemy, and Intellephunk present:
RADIO SLAVE Rekids Fall North American Tour
23rd Century dance music is here. RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY
No matter what sounds you profess to be your music of choice, chances are, that at some point over the last five years, you will have got your rocks off to Matt Edwards.
As Matthew E he fashions club-based, dancefloor slayers. Under that aegis hes updated the classic Chi-town, jackin sound beloved of house aficionados and layered it with fractured funk, belligerent, oddball beats and mechanical soul.
If Matthew E is all about the Saturday Night Fever, then, by contrast, Rekid is the slower, more deliberate, rhythmical funk of the mid-week mayhem. Its well-intentioned muscular intensity making it perfect soulful sustenance.
Quiet Village is something else all together. A collaboration with long-time musical sparring partner Joel Martin (a vinyl freak, like Mr Edwards, who works in esteemed auction house Christies pop department), its sample-based music which veers from drawn out disco-not-disco delirium to evocative, under-stated soundscapes.
Sea Devils - you keeping up at the back? is undeniable electronic pop brilliance. Working with Tom from Cagedbaby, its the least niche of Matts projects and thanks to Sea Devils alluring pop dance grooves theyll no doubt be shagging the upper reaches of the hit parade sometime soon.
Last, but by no means least etc, etc, etc, is Radio Slave. Perhaps Matts most instantly recognisable nom de guerre, thanks in part to his inspirational melding of Kylies Cant Get You Out Of My Head to New Orders Blue Monday, this is Matts DJ moniker and the guise under which he completes his incendiary remixes and re-edits.
However, before such sonic schizophrenia gets you calling for the men in white coats, just feel the quality and consider Matts legacy. Fired by the first wave of acid house, Matt gained his musical spurs by partying to dance music that was just that: music you danced to, irrespective of tribal factions.
This was the raison dtre he acknowledged when he took to the decks, first at Londons legendary Milk Bar in 1992, then onto the, then, recently opened Ministry Of Sound and then to parties across the country, most notably in Wales where he was a regular at free parties and in Brighton, his home since 1998.
His love of re-edits, dance musics oft-forgotten backbone, led Matt into the studio himself. His own re-edits and remixes, such as the aforementioned epoch-defining re-imagining for Ms Minogue, soon gave way to his own productions and since the floodgates opened theres been no stopping the man known as, erm, Matthew E, Quiet Village, Sea Devils, Rekid and Radio Slave.
Hes released records for Skint, Soul Jazz, Classic, Whatever We Want, and hes worked with fellow travellers, Belgiums The Glimmers. If Matt comes up with another two projects hell have enough alter egos for every day of the week.
Psychologists would probably have a field day with him; mercifully, we dont have to worry about any crisis of identity, we just get to keep on dancing.
