This booth is an isolated sound room, which doubles as a small studio, and has a window in front of the decks which looks into the living room. Pair of KRK Rockit 8's means it fucking pumps too. Absolutely my favorite place to play, its just very comfortable. Senor Pierce found it so inviting he played for 6 hours
....i hate all you people having all this expenive gear being used as like a table coaster or something...are those VHS tapes on top of tha CDJ-800...id kill to have one of those...but w/e

For most people with regular jobs that gear is not really all that expensive. And VHS tapes on an old CDJ-800 are not going to put it out of commission, while the CDJ-1000s are still working just fine.

Nope, yeah does look good in B&W, then again most of his do, because of the polarizer.

okay dokey, staying in downtown LA rather than Santa Monica to be in the middle of it all

Posted by RJT on Jun-23-2008 22:55:

New pics, raised the setup so it's more comfortable. Still a bit cramped, but you work with the space you've got:

Absolutely love it. Wouldn't trade it for anything but a 92.

The cords are all slack enough behind it that it slides right out on top of the laptop for easy use.

The pictures I took with it out didn't turn out the best, but here are a few that will kind of give you the idea:

About to play on it for the first time in a little bit here, we'll see how it all comes together.

Posted by Rememberence_ on Jun-24-2008 16:14:

nice. What does an EFX-500 cost these days?

Posted by Ted Promo on Jun-24-2008 20:30:

I think I've decided to finally start setting money aside for a new setup.

Probably something small like $50-100 a paycheck.

I want to get 2x cdj 400's and a Xone 92. I'll be upgrading the cdjs first since I think my one 200 is on the way out, dying a slow and painful death. I'm excited -- about the new setup of course

Posted by enydo on Jun-24-2008 20:42:

I actually started doing just that. To get my first setup though.

Nice, what are you looking at getting?

Posted by enydo on Jun-24-2008 21:42:

Well, just from looking around here and a few other places I've kinda landed on the following:

Pioneer CDJ - 200 x 2

Vestax VMC 004 or Numark DXM 06 (I honestly I'm still very foggy on mixers and am currently shopping around. These just seemed to be pretty affordable and somewhat decently recommended.)

Sony MDR-V6 Studio Monitor Headphones

Still not set on monitors.

I would love to learn on vinyl but it's just way too impractical for me, so CDJs it is. I'm basically shooting for something that's fairly simple, yet flexible, and also priced decently. Suggestions much appreciated, although this is probably the wrong thread for it.

Posted by Ted Promo on Jun-24-2008 21:49:

meh, an occasional hijack happens.

I've got 2 200's and a DXM 06, and I've been content for a couple of years. I just recently started tinkering around with putting aside money for more boss stuff since I feel I'm outgrowing my setup at the moment. I mean, I still think I suck, but I want better shit.

I've been torn between the Xone and the 800 because I had a 500 and loved its simplicity and how well it performed. But I also loathe Pioneer for raising the price of the 800 when they released the 700 and now the 700 is going for the same price the 800 was when the 800 was originally released. Mega gay.

I've never played on a Xone, but if I'm getting the cdjs they'll have plenty of effects on them already, so no need for the cheesy 800 effects. I want to learn how to implement the Xone filters and tinker about with 4-band EQ instead of 3-band.

Maybe I need to take a test drive of both over at Guitar Center, but this will be a waaaaayyyys out when I am ready to purchase the mixer. Maybe there'll be a new Xone out and I can get the 92 at a discount

My advice would be to try the Xone out. You'll fall in love with it instantly! It doesn't have any effects like the pio's but who cares, effects are gay anyways. Fun to play around with for a while then you realize that less is more. Unless you're James Zabiela that is, but we aren't

I'm pretty much dead-set on the Xone. I want something new and I don't really need or use effects all too often. The occasional filter, but that's about it. And hey, the 92 has awesome filters, all the more reason.

Posted by Tony Morello on Jun-24-2008 22:26:

for a beginner or budget mixer i highly recommend the denon dn x-100

http://www.denondj.com/prodview_item.asp?pid=7

i have it myself for messing around at home and it's a nice little piece of gear, it does everything you need it to do as a dj with no bells and whistles, for a beginner i'd almost go as far to say it would be perfect to learn on

the sound quality is good, build quality is good, all faders are fully adjustable and the headphone cueing works well

Don't forget about the 42 too. Only 3 band eq and one filter per channel I think but it's another option.

I figure if I'm going to save upwards of a grand and more I might as well save a little more and buy big
