You will need knowledge of twelve major and minor chords (24 in total). For Trance music however you will find that the majority of music is in minor keys. The reason being that it is believed that minor keys generally convey more emotion (Or so they say). Cheers Nem |

This is also true for a lot of pitch correction software including CDJs1000 master pitch. Cheers Nem |
thought i got them but i guess my ear isnt trained enough yet so anyone got the keys for:
emphased reality & tim nokx - perception (original mix)

Ok. I finally accepted the fact that I am going to need to learn how to do this. I have no instruments in the house. I do have Rapid Evolution on my computer. Alot of people say it is way off, but can't you use the keyboard in the program, or is that off too? Please, somebody help!! I did a gig last night and really killed the crowd a couple times because the drop in energy, due to bad harmony. I really want to learn this. Could someone give me some pointers to get started?
Thanks,
Mike

I dunno if this has been shared before but anyway, this is a really handy tool I've been using to key my tracks.

Hi everybody
I read the thread, this is fucking amazing and i now want to work on key mixing.
I have three questions.
1 : My track is CM at pitch 0; if i increase the pitch by 4%, i know i won't be on the following key ( C#M) cause the pitch is less than 5%.
But am i still on CM with the increase of 4%, or is it a GM ( CM= 6a, GM =7a)?
I guess it's still a CM but i am not sure .
2:If my first track is CM, and the incoming track is CM too, but has to be pitch up because of a slower BPM, until where can i pitch it and still be in key mixing ? 3% ? 4%? 6%? I guess if there is a semi tone change it will sound bad?
So, until where can i pitch the incoming track?
3: Cm to C#M lift the mix ( +7); so C#M to CM ( -7) slow down the mix right ?
Thanks !!!

I cant even think about not using key lock or master tempo it just complicates things too much. If i want to play harmonically I either stay with the 2.5-3% range or use key lock or both.
I have found that master tempo on the CDJ1000 can actualy be quite handy and does open up quite a few mixing options.

can anyone tell me if A#1 is the same as A#m?
No, when you see numbers like that next to the note it usually is refering to the octave that the note is in. In this instance you would find this towards the far left of the key board so it's quite a bassey sound.
