Might be old, but still ultra smooth & fast (some minor tweaking a child can do) w/ millions of apps & hacks written over many years to improve the OS, look and preformance. I honestly would choose a Treo over any other device on the market, as long as it's a PalmOS.

There you have it, the iPhone 3G is not costing you 199.99 to buy ... add everything up, Voice + Data ... the phone is an arm and a leg w/ many many many restrictions as you can see.

that's great which means that if you get jumped in some ghetto neighbourhood, there's a chance the thug who robs you won't be able to afford the data plan!

The won;t be able to use it, your IEMI is reg. and activated in the store ... once you report it stole, that iPhone can only be used as a iPod.

And that my folks, is why you do not sign a contract.

$90 a month total cost? I was thinking more like $70. My Fido $25 voice plan including SAF & taxes comes to $37 plus $30 for data plus $3 or so extra tax. BTW this is an "unlimited incoming" plan, only 100 minutes a day primetime but I typically use 2,000 minutes a month cuz mostly it's eves/wkend or incoming so I never have extra charges.

So an iPhone would cost me $199 + 36 months x $70 = $2719.

Just my regular no-cost cell is 36 months x $37 = $1332.

So it would cost me $2719 - 1332 = $1387 extra cost over 3 years to upgrade to an iPhone. Or about $1.25 a day.

But yeah, I don't like the 3 year contract either.

Posted by Dr. Z on Jun-20-2008 00:14:

You guys are forgetting that you'll get raped with the data charges because you will go over limit with the iPhone, considering it auto downloads things for you, and each web page is 10x the size, because you're viewing the standard desktop web pages.

So you might as well just double that value...

Isn't this unlimited? Or will there be a Unlimited "Limit" like our Bell DSL contract?

Nice. Was thinking about buying one of those!

I'm guessing you really like it?

I got the 4G Surf. No webcam and a bit smaller battery.

I would not get the HP. A few reviews complained of the screen glare, and the very poor performance of the CPU. They claimed that multitasking was severly limited. The specs look great, but it did not perform very well. I was considering it myself for the bigger keyboard and connectivity options. But then i remembered how much I liked the EEE PC LCD, so i went with Asus instead.

I know you are serious about your electronics, and if you can afford it, hold of till the Asus EEE 901 comes out. It will be the same price as the current 900 ($550), with a shit load more features. I went with the 701 because I liked the price point ($350), and the fact that there are already tonnes of mods. Personally I am going to put in a touch screen as soon as it comes in the mail.

PS - I plan to mod the hell out of my machine, and will keep you guys posted.

Posted by VERTiG0 on Jun-24-2008 00:04:

I'd rather cut my balls off than pay $550 for something like that. Asus is pricing themselves way out of their intended market, I think.

Also we have both the HP and the EEEs at my weekend job and the HP is just so much nicer in terms of build quality, and the glare thing, well, see every other laptop within the past 2 years. It's a non-issue unless you like to whine about things.

The performance of the CPU - well, yeah, the C7-M sucks shit but battery life is quite good. With the 6-cell in the high-end 2133 we've gotten close to 4 hours out of it with wifi and Bluetooth on, which is pretty damn good.

Plus, the keyboard is actually usable. Lets face it, unless you've got girly hands with little tiny fingers, typing on the EEE just plain SUCKS. The keyboard on the HP is 92% of full size, and you can barely notice it.

Oh yeah, it can run Vista - the model I've been toying with has Vista Business (it also ships with a copy of XP Pro). It runs Vista with Aero quite well, in fact. Yeah, the Chrome9 IGP sucks dogshit but it's about on par with the GMA950 for running Aero.

My only real complaints about it are the fact that holy hell does it get hot, and the screen resolution requires you sit quite close (1280x768).

I'd have to play with an EEE 900/901 first before I make a decision, but the specs on the 901 for what you pay aren't particularly great.
