. On the RE2 keyboard when I use the single note function it sounds better than either minor or major. Does a song have to be minor or major? I would love to send someone this file since my RE2 dosent seem to be able to key it for some reason. Its 320kbps song and its a great song actually. Pinokio I can send you the fil3 20mb and you can confirm it for me maybe.

Mixed in key called it 6b or Bb according to cdjshop it would be a 5b or Eb but like I said im not convinced. Plus I wouldnt mind testing out the accuracy of cdjshop or even mixed in key for that matter. I already posted the problem in Mixshare forum so hopefully I will see what RE2 key it as.

ok just PM the link, and I'll try to help you.

Please allow for some margin of error here as I only had laptop speakers and couldn't hear the full frequency range.

D# does feature in the main hook as possibly a starting note but not as the root. The bassline tells me G.

Nemesis I really do not think that the bass line is in G minor . I am thinking actually it could be more D#/Eb or the equivalent Minor

It also goes well with Bb (5b) which is same as G Minor. on the camelot wheel..what do you think?

Posted by Nemesis44 on Jan-17-2007 15:52:

Like I said, I was listening on laptop speakers so didn't really get the frequency range right. Although I do think the track has been keyed incorrectly.

By the way, wasn't able to get the link for some reason, could you try another method of sending it?

Cheers
Nem

How-to: Energy Boost Mixing at the MixedInKey Forums.

I finally found a great example of harmonic mixing:

Shane 54's Mixed In Key Demo

It's a quick megamix of 32 tracks which sound absolutely amazing together. It makes me want to try a few mash ups.

Following the camelot system, all you do is add 7 to your current song for big key changes.

Posted by Nemesis44 on Feb-16-2007 10:35:

Did a little harmonic mix using some of the different methods that can be used.

It's nothing serious just a back to back mix basically. Just thought it would give an idea of flow etc. It's mixed on decks and CDJs.

I recently bought my first batch of tunes from beatport(going 100 percent legit), and I keyed them with an ableton loop playing a minor chord followed by the root note and id tap it the same speed of the track while the track is playing on my comp. Then Id use the transpose function to move it up until ive increased by 12 semitones.and I settle with what sounds most pleasing. This method is really chillaxed, just sit there and press up and down(Im lazy I know, I should change haha) I think there were a few that needed major chords, But Im too noob to find those yet. Anyways...here are the tunes, sorry for the poor labeling I was rushed.Help would be greatly appreciated, I have a best campus dj competition next week, and its 30 min slot so Im thinking real quick mixes, harmonics will blow the roof off..(Im a frosh, so winning the competition would mean alot, I get 200 cash and a residence.)!!!!!Im really excited for this.I digress, here are the choons.-Oh, and I manually tapped the bpms on ableton so they are not 100 percent accurate, its to give myself a rough idea.Oh and Nem, I played with these keys at this house party with strobes and lights, the night started off slow(closed mind to house, people seemd to crave hip hop)....But as the harmonics started, I felt this rush Ive never felt before, when people chanted my name, It made me realize this is what I want to do in this life, I dont want to waste anymore time. Before harmonics seemed so Intimidating, but Nem, honestly without ur supreme online guidance I probably would have thrown in the towel.Sorry for the overdramatic noob speech!

12A (Dbm) Mark Knight - Susan (Original Mix) 128.0
8A (Am) Jody Wisternoff - Nostalgia (Remix) 126.0
7A (Dm) Marc Marberg & Kyau Vs Albert - Megashira (Original Mix) 134.0

Don't tap the BPM of your tracks, they are wrong.
I could check these songs beacuse I got them.

About Megashira, I'm not Really sure if it's 8A (Am) or 7A (Dm), but you seem to be right with detecting the keys.

get Mixmeister, it will give you the BPM of your tracks correctly 99% accuracy, and it will also try to calculate they key of your tracks.
You just need to download the demo, it will analyze the BPM and Key for you, but don't trust 100% on their key detection, you will get better if you do it by ear, that way you will keep training your ear =)

Good Luck

Pepa

Yeh About Megashira, I noticed that with Yahel-you feel(also 8A), the mix didnt sound tonic in all parts. I will definately run my tracks through mixmeister just for bpm, thnx for the help!

hey everybody!

it's been a while since i've posted. i'm so happy this thread is still alive and thriving. there is so much information buried in these pages :-)

fyi--i've thrown together a wiki on the mixshare site for harmonic mixing:

[[ LINK REMOVED ]]

for those who don't know, a wiki is a set of pages that can be edited/added to by anybody.

i've tried to add all of the relevant info on harmonic mixing (from places like this thread and harmonic-mixing.com) into the wiki. it can become a good central place for people to read about and add music theory knowledge, and will be much more organized that going through 70+ forum pages ;-) i'd love it if some of the people here (especially nem!) would contribute ;-)

anyway, it should be helpful for people new to harminic mixing especially...

quick clarification needed from all the harmonic mixers out there...

let's say i have a track that is in Eb minor... and i want to move it to F minor...

i would transpose it up 2 semi-tones yes?

also i was just thinking about it...and wanted to clarify. if i have a tune that is in a minor key...i won't be able to transpose it to a major key correct?

These are the order of the keys

B--Bb--A--Ab--G--Gb--F--E--Eb--D--Db--C

so yes; you would be transposing it by 2 semi-tones.

I'm not sure if this is possible

thanks for the response. yeah i figured my thinking was right on both, but wanted to double check.

as for that second question...i don't think it's possible either...simply because the way the notes are laid out in major/minor keys...but just thought i'd throw it out there.

'transposition' has nothing to do with major/minor, it has to do merely with the tonic of the scale and the key signature.

you can't change a track to major or minor, unless the intervals between the notes themselves are changed. Minor and Major are musical modes, essentially patterns of relationships between a set of tones, lacking pitch. Defining a tonic, eg C sets the key then for a track combined with the mode.

so you can change the tonic by transposing the track, but the intervals always stay the same, thus the mode always stays the same. unless you edit the track by adding/removing parts...

Also it's quite possible to mix a minor track with its relative major, eg Em with GMaj. Personally i feel like this is only really sucessful when there is a fairly minimal set of pitches in the original key, so that the difference in the mode isn't that obvious (unless this is part of the drama of what you are trying to do)

I cant be bothered to read all 80 pages of this lol, but don't you guys think it would be a great idea to have a website with all of the keys listed on it? perhaps we can start something on this? can the thread starter PM me ?

Thanks
