Arturo - great job on closing that FFS thread....I know if I'd posted a little more in there, it would have escalated into a full on flame war.
Have fun at Voodoo with Oscar G last night?
My understanding is that it is up to the mod and to Swamper to decide if a thread stays open or is closed. This thread was opened with the intention to allow mindless babble. It was opened by our mod. What more needs to be discussed? We love you Art!

| Originally posted by Redeye its actually up to all mods to vote. Personally, I'm for threads up to a certain size, but after that size has been reached, I'd rather them be closed simply for the fact that people don't want to look thru pages and pages of random banter. Also, those large threads slow down TA when the search function is run. NYTA had its on spam thread and it turned from a little joke to a 16,000 post thread. It got so big that if I had deleted it all of ta would have crashed. I don't think we need threads like that anymore. If you want to post that much, use aim, msn, icq, etc... |
I can understand that and I completely respect it as well. Do you think this thread is as large as others are currently?

| Originally posted by Boomer187 didn't swamper clear this mess up before with large threads. Since there are not a high volume of people using them there really is not noticable server slow down. and I am guessing on this one, but won't the new search method take care of any slowdown search problems? |

| Originally posted by Redeye swamper actually never cleared anything up really. We have always had a mod issue about spam threads. Its usually been cut down the middle for stay or go. I have been lobbying for either A) a post size limit or B) a thread time limit, this would restrict retards from resurrecting dead threads. It has nothing to do with the fact that you guys have a thread with 13,000 posts. It's the chat threads on TA as a whole. Even the people in the PPR thread eventually got so fed up with the stupidity of it that I closed it. It started out as a simple joke between 4 people and escalated into 16,000 replies of nonsense. I know 90% of ta has nonsensical threads (99% in COR) but I think there has to be a limit on these kinds of threads. |

| Originally posted by Boomer187 see my thinking is that these threads are fine, as long as the main intent is not to post as quick as you can and not to post non-conversational replies (eg, random pics or random sayings). if you avoid those then you have a discussion, which to me is what a bulletin board is made to facilitate. |

People will come in and out and try and start shit just because they know how huge the thread is. I'm sure you are all friends in that giant thread, but we cant be closing some and allowing others to stay open. If we are going to moderate chat threads and other massive threads then we either have to be 100% across the board or 0% across the board |

| Originally posted by trancebrat I will agree with that. There is a portion that does depend on what went on in that thread. If it was closed for size it's one thing. If it was closed because of the content that's different. As long as people know and understand why (it's being closed) then they shouldn't bitch. I do agree that it has to be the same in all the forums. |
Points well made, guys. It was totally weird...I was sitting here this morning and I see that thread, and I'm like WTF? I just felt that they were out to make some drama and/or trouble. They musta been really REALLY bored.

PPR for example was made for spamming, I think we can agree that repling to get custom status is spamming. also a thread titled, Post whores, upgrade you user status by placing useless junk in this thread, can also be labeled as spam. however topics like this one are created for conversations between people in this area and other friends. it is not made to boost post count or anything related to that. So I think a better way to think of it is that mods should close spam threads, not just long threads. Spamming meaning posting as quickly as you can and posting non-conversational replies (eg, random pics or random sayings). I think that seems, so far, to be a decent definition of spamming, and as long as these threads do not start doing that, I am thinking they are not even comparable to the other threads. I hope I am being clear here, that I don't see the PPR and aussie threads as being comparable to these two threads. They do have a lot of replies, however it is the intent and usage of the post that should be under consideration, and i know that at least 2 mods follow our cali thread, and it seems like two follow this thread, so it would be easy to detect if the intent strays. |
