Originally posted by loca I don't agree. Lampard is a good player. If anyone needs to sit their ass down it's Crouch - who can't seem to hold on to the ball in the first place and makes some pretty weak attempts at headers - and Beckham who, tbh, has seen much better days and can't seem to get his damn game together. At least Lampard has shots on goal!

Originally posted by Dj Smitty20 I think Beckham is pretty much over the hill. Aside from a few brilliant crosses here and there (and the odd wonder goal from a dead ball strike near the box), Golden Balls does little else. He can't beat a man any better than Lampard can! He's got no pace and his regular passing/tackling leaves much to be desired. He's not horrible out there and he does come back and at least try to defend a little unlike Lampard, but he is not the Beckham of Man U 97-2000 era. If Sven truly had balls, he'd leave Lampard on the bench in favour of a holding mid fielder like our own Hargreaves or Carrick and put Lennon on the right side with Gerrard attacking from midfield. With Rooney (and even a fit Owen), the dangerous Joe Cole on the left middle, THAT England squad would be scary indeed! But he'll never take such risks.

im not convinced...i think its a disaster waiting to happen. playing like that you're way too open to a counter attack . beckham in the middle...never! that experiment failed at Real madrid . and gerrard would be left in a perpetual dilemmna as whether to join the attack or sit back to break any counter moves coz beckham is only gonna be doing a half assed job at that. he's most effective on the right with his pin-point long range crosses/pases.
walcott and rooney up front isnt a bad idea now coz owen is injured but i think sven will rue his decision not to bring another striker. i think its ok to gamble on walcott as no one's seen him but defoe should've been there instead of jenas...4 out and out strikers in owen, defoe, crouch, walcott with rooney as well who can play in midfield if need be to cover the numbers.

Originally posted by DJ Robben I think you're mental to be honest, outside, of Stevie G, beckham has been the best player of the tournament. Joe cole had ONE good half in 3 games, beckham has run his ass off in everygame. Lampard is fat, and useless. Crouch is absolute shit, and very much emile heskey in the way i hate him. My England XI for the game against Ecuador. Robinson, Cole A, Terry, Ferdinand, Carragher, Gerrard, Lennon, Beckham, Cole J, Walcott, Rooney

Originally posted by Dj Smitty20 Robinson still looked pretty bad today...any thoughts on that? Nearly as bad as James in last Euro.

Originally posted by loca AHAHAHA Lampard is fat?? Are you kidding me? He's nowhere near fat so unless you're a twig like Crouch, i wouldn't call the fat card on him. Lampard is fit, full stop. As for Beckham being the best player... have you been watching the games lately? The guy can barely cross properly anymore, let alone take free kicks, can't defend, and has little pace. If any player deserves best player it's Gerrard, and the next best is most certainly not Becks. Beckham is very much like Ronaldo, great back in the day but a bit of a has-been now.
watch out for teams like argentina to exploit robinson...hes a good shot stopper...but on crosses and short quick passes in the box he can be a little suspect.

Originally posted by loca Robinson is fucking rubbish lol He barely moved for those goals. It was like watching a mannequin in goal. England's biggest downfall, most of the time, is their goalkeeping.

Originally posted by Dj Smitty20 Only lately! Seaman was brilliant in the 96 Euro and 98 World Cup and at least kept England in it. I'm sorry for him that Ronaldinho's fluke goal in 2002 is what he'll be remembered for most in an England jersey though. And Calamity James in 2004? Let's not go there. But Peter Shilton, who was England goalie from the early 70s until 1990 was one of the best of his time. And Gordon Banks of the 60s was probably the best goalie of all time. He made what Pele called the greatest save ever in the 1970 World Cup against Brazil. But Robinson has looked hesistant and almost...stunned back there since the T and T game. That won't do. A keeper must always be moving and trying to anticipate and above all, be decisivie with balls in the air!
I think it's safe to say that when they put on that red and white jersey, something strange happens to them. I watch a lot of EPL and Lampard does not disappear for Chelsea the way he does for England. Robinson does not flail around and stand on his line stunned like an old senile person while playing for Tottenham. Gerrard is beginning to show his Liverpool form the last two games and Rooney always plays with fire. But there is obviously so much pressure on these guys to win, I kinda feel sorry for them sometimes.
if Lampard buried a few of those long range shots, you guys wouldn't be talking about his game in a negative way now.
Lampard does a lot for England. I personally think Gerard is a better player, but Lampard does a lot of little things at the back. If you say that to have them both in the middle England wont win is an understatement. England does have a strong chance this year, I just think that goaltending is their key weakness. They don't have the Didas or Lehnmans. Robinson is a just above average goalie. He is no Peter Shilton or Dave Seaman.
Anyway, my point was that all this bashing of Lampard isn't worth it. He's always a dangerous force in the middle and comes back to help out at the back. You can't ask from his more than what he's doing. Yes, sometimes he has bad games. That's every player. Ronaldinho also had a bad game this tournament. It happens to everyone. But everytime he's on that pitch, he's dangerous in every way, you don't cover him properly and he'll make you pay!

tomorrow afternoon I will be going back and forth between Kelsey's restaurant (right beside my work) to watch THE game!
Nederland vs. Argentina

It is definitely gonna be a good game. And I am definitely rooting for Orange to come out on top.
GO HOLLAND GO
I really do hate not being able to watch the full game though. I will be able to get in either the first or second half but not both

^^ lol that's hillarious...but it's one of the teams that could win it all
As for the Beckham discussion I agree he is the top player - when Rooney came off and got subbed by Gerard Becks went up front and not only ran his ass off across the entire pitch for 90 minutes but started attacking. If you payed attention other than Crouch that was a bit useless other than a few headers Becks was trying to take headers in the box all of the second half.
