). Sadly the car has somewhat of a bad reputation around here. Because it was cheap to buy and cheap to run it was bought by wannabe street racers who wanted a step up from their civic. Needles tos ay after years of such abuse by idiots its wery hard to find a decent one for sale, and if you do, because of the high demand for them they can cost up to about 10.000EUR which is just insane
See here it was the opposite with the E34! And yes I love that one too. I really have an affinity for older BMWs. Really love their design.
Yes the Tesla Roadster and the Model S have been mentioned.

Even the 5 series before the E34 (E30 years, but 5 series) was kind of fun in that old and angular sort of way.
They're all fantastic cars though.
Mongoose - what are the import taxes like if you went shopping for one in Germany? You could probably find an affordable one there that has been well maintained.
LEN - that 3.0CSL and Z4 ///M Coupe are awesome. I love the burnt orange wheels. A brave choice of colour but it works great.
For new cars importing is not a problem, but for such old ones there so much hassle and cost involved that its just not viable unless you have money to burn. That's unless the car is designated as a classic car, but it has to be at least 25 years old for that and the most desirable e34 models (1995 540i M-Sport 6 speed manual and 1995 3.8l M5 6 speed manual) are still far far from that.
God, I love this car.

Originally posted by gehzumteufel Well, I was more suggesting a VIN swap if they used them there. Just bring it in as parts (to be able to do that in the US the wheels and motor have to be removed and shipped separately) and then just reassemble it with a beat up ones serial/vin.

Originally posted by pmoisse Ahh, my bad. I misunderstood. The first EVO (Evo VI) imported into Ontario came in after being disassembled in the US, put in boxes, and reassembled at a shop in Georgetown and licensed as a kit car. I figured Mongoose could maybe pull the same stunt

Originally posted by gehzumteufel This isn't so easy in the US anymore. Those Skyline GT-Rs that went through this (there were like 3 or 4 of them) got impounded till they went through the proper channels. This was before the DOT ban on R34 and R33 Skylines.

Originally posted by gehzumteufel lol basically. They were so eager to get them in, they would do anything to do it quasi-legally. Also, the reason the R33 and R34 are now banned, is because Motorex was the only one that paid for FMVSS and DOT type testing. As a result, no other company had test results. So when Motorex was forging documents and falsely converting R34s, they just outright banned them. Sucks, but what can you do.

Sadly, most of the loopholes have been closed a few years back. Partly due to the ease of imports from nearby countries, but mostly due to the sudden emergence of illegal street racing (another reason besides crimes against aesthetics to blame on the fast and furious movies) so faking anything on a car these days just isn't worth the effort, especially if the car in question is as high profile and rarity as a mint condition 5 series v8. There are plenty of old 5ers driving around, but most of them look like shit, so the ones that look decent are immediately suspicious and are often checked for illegal mods.

Originally posted by gehzumteufel lol I would. The thing is, the company is technically doing it legal, even if it is the definition of shady.
