i see your point. its not always about the number of goals. however, i hope that you can see my point that for someone to say they have no skill is just taking it too far.

Oh completely agreed.

I never said that the Devils aren't talented, and I think anyone who does isn't looking at the team objectively.

I just hate to watch their games

Posted by sebby on Apr-28-2003 05:28:

Didn't really have a chance to watch any of the games tonight. Saw the ending of the Nucks'-Wild game. Looks like this series will be brutal, especially with the way the game ended.

I just can't wait to see the Ducks-Stars matchup. One of my faves by far. Hope it goes to 7th overtime this time around.

Posted by Mark on Apr-28-2003 07:06:

the canucks must realize that a 'B' or 'C' game is not going to cut it. if they want to succeed in the stanley cup playoffs, they MUST bring their 'A' game to the table every single night for 60+ minutes!

Posted by sebby on Apr-29-2003 04:49:

Ducks played like shit in the 3rd Period. I hope Dallas beats the shit out of them so my prediction will stand. I don't even know why I'm cheering for the Ducks in the first place.

Posted by Zewad on Apr-29-2003 05:14:

GO LIGHTNING!!! let the fuckin 3-0 lead slip away but pulled it out in the end,... 2-1 now,... its a series,!!!!!

Posted by jonnycarcinogen on Apr-29-2003 22:52:

It's not really a series yet, if the devils go up 3-1 (which they most likely will) and the lightning come back to tie it THEN it will be a series. I wouldn't mind seeing it, when it comes to the playoffs more is definitely better.

Posted by sebby on Apr-30-2003 07:48:

The Nucks'-Wild game started with a fight. How often do you get to see that. It was a pretty high scoring playoff game that ended in a one goal victory from the Nucks' as they go up 2-1.

The Sens got the game winner in OT. I don't know what to make of that goal. Cechmanek is a pretty shaky goalie. He plays ood one night and then he plays a different game the next time around. Very inconsistent.

I have a feeling both series will play the maximum amount of games necessary to decide who goes on.

Ducks-Stars tommorow. Should be an interesting result.

IMHO this depends on whether or not the goalies continue to play at a high level. The Canucks/Wild series will almost undoubtedly go a minimum of 6, but I always wonder when Cechmanek is going to stop making amazing unorthodox saves, and start missing them en masse.

I'm not generally a Senators fan or booster, but I like their chances of winning that series at this point.

No kidding, it'll be interesting to see if we're just getting a slightly more dramatic repeat of the Canucks/Red Wings series from last year with the first loss spelling the end.

Overall I'm still picking the Ducks to win that series though, the Ducks actually have a much deeper team than most people give them credit for, and they're riding the hottest goalie in the NHL right now with 2 wins already checked off.

They might not close it in under 6, but unless they totally collapse tonight I like their chances still, they were in Game 3 right up to the final buzzer, and they weren't even playing that good in that game either!

Definitely an interesting playoffs so far this year!

The fact that Colorado and Detroit were eliminated in the first round and that Vancouver and Minnesota came back from a 3-1 deficit was very interesting.

But on the flip-side there are also not so interesting occurences in the playoffs. I'll give you a number of examples.

Tampa Bay-Washington: From the Southeast Conference. The weakest conference of them all and they play each other. Granted it was a pretty good series at the end, but the first 4 games didn't interest me at all

Ottawa-Philadelphia: A boring Match-up! Why? Because the Leafs-Flyers matchup was the best series out there. Philly is emotionally and physically weak from that series thus giving Ottawa the edge.

New Jersey-Tampa Bay: First off, it's a no brainer! Secondly, someone said it here earlier. New Jersy plays boring hockey. And I hate that Langenbrunner fool.

Anaheim-Dallas: A great match-up, but not as great as the Stars-Oilers matchup. Those Oilers sure are fun to watch. I guess offensive talent is what people came to see. The Stars have that talent. The Ducks don't. Still interested in Giguere though. This shows that the Ducks are like the Devils and Wild, a Definsive team.

Vancouver-Minnesota: Nothing wrong with the Nucks. Just that Minnesota plays defense all day long. Both of these teams rely on PP goals to score. If a penalty isn't called throughout the game, look for a really boring game. Rather see Vancouver advance IMO. Bertuzzi's line looks interesting to watch even if they don't score.

There you have it. A week ago I would have said, "I want to see a Wild-Ducks Western Finals." Not good at all now is it. Nucks-Stars would be the best, followed by the Nucks'-Ducks.

For the Eastern Finals, you've gotta pick New Jersey-Ottawa or New Jersey-Philly. Both series should be nice to watch.

haaha what the fuck is up with anaheim? 3-1 lead over stars does not look right. i still cant get over the fact that they swept red wings and here they are 1 game from advancing to the western conference finals? wtf wtf twtf wtf and wtf 1 more time. what a bunch of jewbies

No real way to avoid a few bad matches in the first round though. As much as people get on the NHL at times for allowing the division leaders to be 1-3 in the seeding (and I'm among the critics of this, especially because of the way it made (IMHO) the two best teams in the east face off in the first round) it *does* make for more interesting first round matches in general.

I think Tampa is a more exciting team than people give them credit for, and Washington has some explosive potential as well, I think you could definitely do worse than this series for watchability factor.

I think it's unfair to judge this series by the last one, everyone knew that the Leafs/Flyers series was going to be an extreme, insane, drawn-out affair, and apart from the anti-climatic game 7 it was.

I think the Ottawa/Flyers series is the most entertaining one going in the second round right now.

No argument here, I wanted to see the Lightning win, but I didn't give them much hope, and the hockey isn't too thrilling to watch either.

Realy comparing apples and oranges. The Oilers are one of my favourite teams to watch because of their 'firewagon hockey' approach to the game, so I'd pick a series with them involved over most.

I think the interesting factor in this series is just seeing if the Ducks can keep it going against more talented teams. Definitely hasn't been an overly large amount of shots or action, but just seeing the Ducks win is enough to put a smile on my face, are they going to pull a 93 Montreal?

I'm also pulling for the Canucks (and an Ottawa/Vancouver final) but I don't think there's anything wrong with this series. Sure, both teams are PP reliant, but it's a classic struggle between an offence driven team, and a defence driven one.

I think this series has the best hope for going long, and getting better as it does.

I would have to dissagree with that, if ducks didnt have talent they wouldnt be where they are at right now. They have a mix of some luck and talent. I think these teams like detroit and dallas really underestimated the ducks, big time. Especially detroit, they came in on a high horse and they got spanked, they got what they deserved. Just like a few years ago when they got defeated by the Kings, same story, only the ducks are much stronger.

Anything can happen at this point, but i think ducks will take dallas for a ride too. This is the underdog year.

Go Ducks Go!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by sebby on May-01-2003 20:13:

First off, all those games that I said about being uninteresting it was through my point of view. It's how I feel.

The best second round of the series from my perspective would be the Ducks-Stars series cuz I follow the Pacific Division more than any other division. Furthermore The Ducks are now up 3-1 mainly because of Giguere. Put in any other goalie and we'd have a different story. Add one more WTF to that.

Some people out here want to see the underdogs win. Sure, I'm all for that. But what's more enjoyable to watch, underdogs vs underdogs or underdogs vs. favorites. Defense vs. Defense, or at least one of the teams having great offensive talent. We all have different views on that.

At first I was thrilled to see Colorado and Detroit eliminated. Now I kinda wish they were still around, cuz they make the playoffs more entertaining to watch. At the same time, the 2003 playoffs hasn't been all that bad. Cuz if it was then I wouln't be posting here anymore.

Posted by zarathustra on May-02-2003 17:33:

My midround review:

TB vs. NJ: No surprises here, I expect the series to end tonight. Tampa will be better next year though.

Phi vs. Ott: FFS!!! Finish the bastards off Ottawa. What the hell is going on. One game, the chiropractor is unbeatable, and in the next he sucks. We all know he sucks so why can't he just play like it and lose

Dal vs. Anh: Sweet!!! I expected Anaheim to win this, just not so soon, hehe. Dallas just can't solve Jiggy when they need to, plain and simple.

Van vs. Min: Vancouver is playing to their potential (finally) and as such, they're getting the results they deserve. Many people couldn't see this team going very far but I see them playing in the final.

Posted by Mark on May-03-2003 04:44:

what an amazing game. canucks up 3-1. WHOO HOO!!!!
GO CANUCKS GO!!!

Posted by zarathustra on May-03-2003 18:13:

Can't keep the 'Nucks down. YEAH!!!!

So Tampa's gone now. All I can say is: zzzzzzzzzzz, wha? it's over? I was asleep there, sorry. So boring. Make the trap illegal.

Posted by Mark on May-03-2003 18:38:

the only teams that don't play the trap now are the canucks and possibly the stars. the rest of them do. so get ready for some end to end action in the rest of the playoffs.

Posted by zarathustra on May-03-2003 18:49:

Scary thought: Ott vs. NJ Eastern Final. Trap on trap. Turnover at the blue line, dumped in, cleared, turn over at the other blue line, dumped in, cleared...oh wait, a shot on net, cleared, turnover at the blue line...

The trick is, the goalies will fall asleep by the 7th OT since they haven't seen a shot for 2 hours and then, bang, goal from centre ice.

Ok, that's bit of an exageration

Posted by sebby on May-05-2003 09:34:

Ducks lose 4-1 in Dallas. I wonder how that will carry over in Anaheim on Monday. Devils are cruising. One of my predictions came through on the dot.

Hmm, no games on Sunday. Everyone must be religious when it comes to hockey. A busy Monday night though.

Posted by hbrd on May-06-2003 05:48:

hehee, ducks did it!!

and minnesota played nice game too!! hope they win next match too..

GO DUCKS GO!!!!

Posted by Slapskin on May-06-2003 08:06:

stupid fuckin wild. they r gonna get ass raped i fuckin guarantee on wednesday.

Posted by sebby on May-06-2003 08:40:

The Ducks did it again. Not only do they knock off the defending Stanley Cup Champions, but they also knock off the #1 seed in the west.

I kept on arguing to myself saying, "How lucky can the Ducks get?" But when I see Giguere's Save Perecntage and GAA, it shows that the opposing team wasn't able to put it in the net. Sure the Red Wings and the Stars had more offensive chances and played better than the Ducks, but in the end all that matters is the final score.

Well!!! Here we are!!! Witnessing the worst power play team make it to the Western Conference finals. My wish came true. I wanted a new Western Conference team to be represented in the Stanley Cup finals. It's not the Avs, Wings or the Stars. It's gonna be some other team.

I think I hear the Ducks quacking. Time to go feed the Ducks.

Posted by Mark on May-08-2003 04:30:

all i can say is that the last two canuck efforts were worse than pathetic!

they don't deserve to win this series. they never brought their 'A' game to the table for 60 minutes. not even ONCE!!!
