OK...let's work on this together, and start a compilation of things that we can decipher from this riddle.

First and foremost, we must determine who the man is. I think the man is the person referred to in the first few riddles on the site..the man that owns the international insect company, that rides the black horse, or NightMare

quote:
he caught sight of his desk covered in important invoices from abroad.

quote:
what appeared to be an almost completely black picture with some sort of vague animal outline just visible

OK...so, we know that this is the man in question...now what else do we possibly know about him? And given this information, what would he have been talking about? And to who??

TAs??

Posted by Noisician on Jul-01-2003 02:27:

guessing is pointless. the whole thing appeared to be a hoax. net riddle is no more so don't even bother about sending your answers in.

Posted by Psionic on Jul-01-2003 02:39:

how do u know it was a hoax?

Posted by DR86 on Jul-01-2003 02:41:

What was the grand prize suppoused to be?

I knew that this was BS from the beginning.

3.7 has never been upped and never will be. browse through the news archive on that site. it said they were going to launch a new version and give up the old one without further developing it, meaning that all people who have gotten to 3.6 (dedbob!) would have to start from scratch and do the whole thing all over again.also, they stopped responding to emails with possible answers for 2.27. they (he, it's a one person) quit.

current news says the new versions of 1.1-1.2 are up. but they are not! u see the whole thing was about money. how many people do u think actually clicked on those ads? well, more than u would ever think, but it was still not enough. that's why nr v.2 has been considered. a new version would attract more people than any extension of stage 3 because only a few people have gotten that far. it would not be profitable. with a new version they'd get new people plus those who'd have to start all over again. it's all about the money.

Yes but u hav to put a "/" at the end, hence the "root". heh. like this: http://www.languid.net/nr/water/

Its blatently obvious there was never gonna be a prize

exactly. i dont think anyone was really doing it for the prize.

Posted by Noisician on Jul-01-2003 13:12:

ok, for those of u who are still trying to solve 2.27, i'll give u a couple of hints:

1. the whole set-up is related to early parts of stage 1 (animal!)
2. the riddle itself is based on word-play.
3. a huge, just huge amount of info given is IRRELEVANT to the answer.
4. the last paragraph, however, is essential (again, pictures of what animal did he have next to those of his dog and cat?)
5. if u can figure out what the guy's "occupation" is, u will be much closer to the asnwer (read the last sentence, it's a good spoiler).

This thread is becoming frikkin huge!! If someone wins donate it to swamper

Posted by webmeister on Jul-03-2003 13:19:

Awesome link!! And Acid Junkie, I think you are some sort of genius if you did manage to get that far without any help....

Couldn't work out 2.27 though :/

Posted by allstar on Jul-03-2003 21:53:

Acid Junkie, you must be seriously clever, as 2.27 to me seems ridiculously hard to solve.

Posted by dj_mdma on Jul-04-2003 08:50:

hmmm, well it will be something to with his horse, Nightmare, but in the last paragraph he has a furniture workshop?!?!

So is he a horse rider or something.

Acid junkie give us the answer!

Posted by HyPeRSoNiC on Jul-04-2003 10:31:

isn't it that guy who works at that "import ant" company??????

Posted by shao on Jul-04-2003 23:19:

And decided to go back to his cellar that he had converted into a furniture workshop.

I think the guy's name is and... that might be irrelevant but that's what i have to contribute

yes, but it's not important in this case. the answer has nothing to do with ants.

hmmmmmm
maybe he's a verminator?
and that phone call was someone asking him to get rid of pests?

or he caught some rare species of bugs and he wants the guy to come pick them up or something?

I know it sounds stupid.... but that net riddle is making me feel that way anyway so what the heck

Posted by Noisician on Jul-05-2003 14:16:

nah, u are as far from the solution as possible. as i said, much of the info given is red herring; it's there to distract and inculcate the wrong train of thought. as for why it has to be the man from stage1, well... think of what the riddler wrote about him in 1.3. the man loves word play, which means the answer to 2.27 must be a PUN. something with a dual meaning.

.edit.

mmkay, my last hint (if u still can't get it... u won't get it as there will be no more hints from me).

the answer is on this page, but u will have to find it first. so good luck

u can pm me with what u think is the correct answer. and if it's right, i'll give u the url for stage3.
