I'm sorry but you ask to be judged by what you say online. If you are using some fake persona of yourself to get some kicks then you are in the wrong place. Its fine if you post this stuff in the Main Chill Out Room where most people will not know you or will never come in contact with you. I have meet half the people on here and I think I can safely say that I'm the same on the forums as in person. Why do you find it neccessary to use the forum as some sort of perverse outlet for whatever is happening to you in you real life. Just the fact that you are posting bullshit ideas without considering that there are real people on the other side on the ethernet line and admitting that you don't really mean it and you are not the same in real life is pretty fucked up if you ask me.

I also find it so amusing how you have suddenly become the expert on what qualifies a photographer, considering there are NO RULES to being one. Photography is just one of those fields. People who've never taken a course in photography are working as photographers, and there are no credentials required or bar exams to pass to qualify yourself as one. And to make a comment that only real photographers use cameras worth $5-10K is ridiculous. There are so many out there in the field that work with cheaper, and sometimes 30 yr old cameras. If u wanna break the 'bad news' to all those people that they're not 'real photographers', u can go knock yourself out. None of my photography teachers ever owned current or expensive equipment, and their pictures were beautiful. I have a friend whose never gone to college or music school, yet he writes music, and owns several successful businesses- does that mean he isn't REALLY a musician or businessman?

In short, to answer your questions, I have spent many years studying photography, spent the past 11 years working in the field, and own MUCH more expensive camera equipmant. When I take pics at a club, I'm also there to have a good time. No one pays me to be there, I do it for the people. I spend my money on my equipment. If some club wants to put me on their payroll and shell out a few thousand for a Canon EOS 1D for me, I won't turn it down. Until again, I'm not gonna lug my Hassleblad and set of White Lightnings to the Guv with me and risk losing or damaging them, just to prove to you I'm a 'real photographer'.

I never said I was the best club photographer either. I see many people who don't even know what an aperture is, take great shots. But when I do see a good shot, I always contact them to compliment them and to discuss how they achieved it, in order to improve on mine. Of course no one can comment about your images (or your appearance), as no one has seen a single one.

whoever said you were fat???

and these photographers youre talking about that use 30yr old cameras...theyre not professionals. I have worked with many ppl that wont use anything bellow an f1 for a pic of their cat. quality DOES matter. and cannon sucks balls, if uve really worked in the field for 11 yrs you would never talk about owning a cannon.

~ still waits for Party Princess to publicly reprimand her loyal servant 'mju:zik for making rude comments solely based on people's appearances ~

I guess judging based on appearances is all relative, ain't it? Depends on who's doing the name calling. Ironic, since I've never said online a thing about her appearance, ever.

I also seem to recall being one of the 1st TA's to welcome 'mju:zik to the forums, and anxiously anticipated seeing his images (and without asking for his photographic credentials too). Look how quickly he forgets. Now he just wants to call me "_atgirl".

Hey kid, it's "CANON".

Posted by tha_broad on Aug-11-2003 17:14:

I have a strong notion to repeat this:

Personally, it doesnt really matter whether tatgirls pics are PROFESSIONALLY done or not....the fact that she takes the time out to take them and post them for everybody is more than enough for me....I already have many wikkid memories from some of the pics that shes taken (orkidea...wikkid pics girl! u rock!!! i dont think i need to specify which pics im talkin about).....It doesnt matter if theyre top ass quality...she takes better pics than i would...thats for sure!

DO WE GET IT?????? GOOD! NOW GET OVER IT!!!!

Are you kidding??

I think she was talking about the EOS-1D...

I thought I'd let that one go!

Nice triple posting there.
Oh, so if u weren't eluding to the fact that I'm '_at', what was that? catgirl? batgirl? ratgirl? We all know what you were implying, you j_rk, no matter what letter of the alphabet you leave out.

And u wanna go to the Canon vs Nikon battle? LMAO! Not even gonna go there. It's as important as arguing trance vs prog, night vs day, pizza vs hamburgers. To each his own. At least I can SPELL Canon. You act like I own a Minolta or something. Grow Up.

I'm not quiet a photographer, yet I am into the generalized field of new media (digital media)...and I use my own digital dark room, called photoshop. And I've used the EOS-1D myself, and printed photos professionally, the quality was VERY similar to a manually produced photo, and if not better.

I would like to make it known that the ONLY photojournalist to die at the World Trade centre on 9/11 while covering the events there used a digital Canon camera. They recovered his final images and printed them in a magazine.

Maybe you'd like to tell his grieving family that his life was a farce cuz he didnt use Nikon?

what a m_r_n.

Posted by Elmo-On-XTC on Aug-11-2003 17:49:

a good photographer can take pictures with any camera, regardless of how good it is...

no but i bet the images wouldve been better with a nikon lol he/she probably couldve taken more too with an slr.

also...photo journalists are rarely respected photographers. granted thats the most obvious field...no top grad would CHOOSE to be a photo j...being one makes you work for other peoples ideas not your own.

That's because there's no money to be made in art. I went to a school that taught you how to be a technically good photographer. Pratt is located in Brooklyn, and my good friend is a techer there. Directions are listed here, if u needed to go: http://www.pratt.edu/campus/

I hope that we can all agree that someone has to be banned here. We don't need to start the day off with personal insults. Tempers are flaring right now and we don't need anymore of these types of insults.

I suggest we just let this thread die and have it over with as it is. I don't even want to look at some of the things that were said.

thats true...having a better camera just makes things easier. i can use shitty camera for portraits as long as the lense isnt fuked. but when u get into shooting things that are moving at high rates of speed you need faster lenses and better cams. take a soccer match for instance. with a shitty camera I might get 2-3 good pics of a good play. with a good camera and fast optics i can lock onto the moving object and take 30 good pics of the same play. chances are that one of the 30 will be better than 1 of the 2.
