Go there, live there a while and see which you'd like better. And on another note...the fact that you've never heard of McGill and Concordia goes to show how wrapped up you are in your own surroundings. Those two schools are amongst the top in North America. Get a clue. |

It practically ONLY HAS blue-collar jobs, that's why you see low-paid construction workers everywhere, etc. There's not enough WHITE-collar HI-TECH jobs. "Retire at 25"? Are you mentally challenged? What the hell are you gonna do and how will you earn your living and prosper???? Man, I'm serious, get a clue.. |

| Originally posted by MrSquirrel Out of respect for my friends from the great white north...Canada is a member of the Commonwealth which, if you don't know, means they are a former British colony with the Queen of England as their official Head of State. The Canadians can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that Quebec (the French colony part) was won by the British during the French and Indian War (as US history books call it...if memory serves me correct it is referred to as the "7 Years War" in Europe). Of course, I live in a state of Bliss for I am ignorant. MrS |

The fact that you've never heard of Canadian universities and colleges doesn't speak anything of their merits or demmerits. As far as research universities Mcgill and U of T are ranked on the same level as harvard. As are a few others which I can't quite recall the names of. And there are many european universities such as oxford and Cambridge that are easily as good as any of those. The other point to recognize is that very few people as a percentage of population can go to universities like those. Our universities are by no measure subpar and a much larger percentage of our population goes on to post seconday education.
I would also like to point out that you said nothing of any of my other criticisms of the U.S.
What about your high rate of violent and gun crime?
What about your ridiculous legal system?
What about your huge gap between rich and poor?
What about your lack of civil liberties?
What about your HUGE amount of people in jails? A lot of which don't meet universal human rights standards.
And to whomever said that there are more oppurtunities and jobs in the U.S. I don't quite see how that is true. I believe that you guys have a higher unemployment rate. And the average income is I believe higher here, although that largelly comes down to how you decide to calaulate it.
Also what about all the terrible atrocities your country has commited?
For example putting terible dictators in power eg pinochet?
