I've just got my Reflections album.. it's nice music, but not PvD I think. I've expected a lil more to be honest..

It isn't really jazzy, its just poppy. I dunno about this track, my mind changes so much while listening to it i mean, for 10 seconds i'm like 'this is beautiful', then there's a new layer for 10 seconds n I say 'this is cheesy as fuck'.. I think it has somethin to do with the vocals. I hope a dub of this track comes out, it'd do so much for it!! Kinda like the first tune off Out There n Back - which is a mindblower, probably pvds most sophicated production ever. Time of Our Lives is horrible boyband shit. Crush is nice, Buenaventura is nice.. yet to finish downloading this yet so i'll comment on the rest later, heheh

personally I think the CD is pretty dope, I really like it alot. Although it's not as good as his previous albums...he's out done himself so many times that I think we just expected him to out do himself again. Although I think he did, it's just not our paticular taste.

Good Album though and I give Paul much credit for at least trying his best with his schedule

If you think about it, before he came out with his previous albums..he wasn't playing nearly as much as he is now. If you played as much as him and travelled everywhere, on your day off would you want to produce music? Hell I would want be with my girl and enjoy life .

It's a nice album, but... it kinda disappointed me a lil'bit. Doesn't beat OTAB.
7.5/10

it's not that great, and there's too much jan johnston for me to handle.

lets hope the vinyl release is better. :\

Question

Anybody knows, what singles from Reflections will be released in the future?

Posted by torontotrance on Sep-14-2003 01:59:

I've heard it now

3 outta 10

Now any of you that wish to harp on me for hating paul van dyk, can kiss my white ass because I do own all his albums cept I don't plan to buy this.

It was a disappointment from the start because Paul decided to go more vocal than normal. Paul Van Dyk was probably one of the greatest ever emotional trance producers of all time. The stuff that took me into cloud nine over the years was his non vocal stuff and this album was a total letdown. I'm not even comparing it to Out There And Back but this album could have done better. Spellbound was a letdown and Jan Johnston is just getting annoying...I felt that was a bad track. The album did have it's moments (i.e That's Life) but the album failed to impress me and I wish paul would go back to producing better emotional trance tracks. Frankly I don't see why crush is such a popular song because it also fails to move me. Paul will hopefully wake the fuck up at some point when he decides to released VDT II if ever and if he decides to release avenue of stars which I would love to hear.

I agree. With some of the tracks it's as if he's trying to make up for a lack of melody and production with vocals instead.

I still think there are some great productions on the album, but it could have been better on this very point.

Posted by torontotrance on Sep-19-2003 01:45:

Paul Van Dyk is an utter genius...just some of his stuff has been below par lately. That's life was simply amazing but most of that album lacked something..not quite sure what...but I do know Paul is capable of better...then again....all artists have their struggles..it was amazing that it took this long...for paul to hit this. I think paul should have done some more emotional trance songs without vocals....then again...seems everyone is doing vocals these days...some are pretty poor....I think they need to remind themselves of the 1998-1999 vocal trance...when they used vocals effectively.

Homage

i'll drown you in kisses (3x)

i know i miss so many magical moments
when i'm away from you
i miss your touch
i miss your voice

the mystery we all know
the secrets to eachother
there's only you i could love forever

that's why i'm so lonely in a crowd
and all i think about is coming home to you

it's the stuff of dreams
how we hunger for our time
i could never get enough
of your sweet love

that is why i'm so lonely in a crowd
and all i think about is coming home to you

(2x)

i'll drown you in kisses (3x)

also... in case you were unaware...

Paul van Dyk - That's Life features Paul's vocals for the first time. This is also quite a dark track, where the bassline tends to drown out a very faint melody in the background. I like the clap very much on this track, and the vocals do work well with the heavy bass. The vocals "You daddy's alright," continue all the way through the outro and into the introduction of the next track Connected.

From that perspective, it's grrrreat raw material for mixes.

Honestly I love PvD as much as the next person, but to be honest this album isnt all that. Its nice to listen to but the track just isnt crammed with greatness, but its not crap but not just the greatest thing since sliced bread either.

Posted by annon185 on Sep-25-2003 00:12:

i think this CD's alright....except for the collaboration with DJ Tomekk bad experimentation right there

Posted by Ajay on Sep-25-2003 13:16:

the first tune, crush is quality, the album is good but i must say theres 2 or 3 tunes in there that i really dislike.

my thoughts exactly. and i thought to myself after listening to the CD all the way thru for the first time, "is this a paul van dyk CD, or a jan johnston CD?" she's ok but not my favorite vocalist.

Posted by umes23 on Sep-25-2003 20:12:

i just want to ask....

why the hell does anyone think "that's life" has the words "you daddy's alright". unless pvd ever said those were the words, i wouldn't think that for a second. to me that sounds really stupid.

ever thought it MIGHT be but "THAT is alright !?!?!

i like the song, and if the words really were "you daddys alright" i would think that was really bad songwriting right there!

Posted by movingincircles on Nov-11-2003 07:12:

guess what...I downloaded the album...and you know what? That was a big mistake...I SHOULD OF BOUGHT THE ALBUM

two thumbs up pvd

little less vocals from jan and more vocals from pvd ok? Don't get me wrong, jan is great and I loved the tracks but it felt like she took over the album.

2 setbacks tho.
1. Why couldn't pvd add the edit version of crush and not the vandit dub?
2. Like a friend track is annoying, but it's nice pvd is giving something to charity.

everything else is heaven in my ears. Nice work!
collaboration with DJ tomekk was great! But that remix of nothing but you from tomekk was the worst.

and next time, COLLABORATE WITH BT again! All of pvd and BT collaboration tracks are my fav.

EDIT:
I was reading the replies and it is impossible to please everyone on this board, no matter how good a song is, there is always someone bitching...

*waits for flames............or some ice
