To those who questioned the need for this thread, it must surely be self-evident by now. While many of us hope for, and think we live in a "perfect" world, ( I have a Dream!) the one we actually live in is still far, far from it. And not just in Lethbridge or Pickle Lake, but in T.O. ( hi VB!)

For those who offer the Bible as justification for, well, pretty any belief: for every bible-based proscription of anything, (including homosexuality--what a term:medicalization=marginalization!) its EASY to offer 10 biblical proscriptions against all manner of silly stuff that we all ignore and no-one EVER mentionsCM offered a few examples, and theres way more where that came from ( especially for those of you who wear clothes made of different kinds of stuff, shave, have tattoos or eat shrimp etc. etc. etc.)

Thank you Charmscars for bringing Foucault into the picture. Vivid boy and DJM really need to go to the library, and get something by Foucault and read it so they can learn to start asking questions about why they feel/believe what they do and where those feelings and beliefs come from. VB's cut down the middle from the family stuff is the place to START to learn about HIMSELF, not the end about why he should be criticising others for who they are. VB's gay bashing joke is so not funny. I guess next he's gonna "joke" about stringin' hisself up some niggas' and that we're supposed to laugh at that too?

But what really makes me sad, is that for many, Trance is a pathway, the low door in the wall, to awareness and enlightenment of the profoundest kind. I almost cant comprehend that there are people in this forum who seem to have totally missed that essential element of this art form. It seems that PLUR is Profoundly Missing from so many of the posts in this thread.

Peace, love, unity and respect to you all.

True...and half the battle is learning to recognize it in it's many, many beautiful forms...

(having said that I'm going to hug myself now and listen to some Trance in my pants...)

Thanks Strange Quark. I'd add a comment, but don't think that anything I could add would even come close to the way you captured it.

Welcome to TA, btw. For the record, most of the people on here are incredibly cool and accepting of everyone... you just walked into a bad thread (LOL).

Chris

no one is forcing you to watch anyone having sex. and no one is forcng you to watch any TV show. so wtf are you complaining about? Unless it's porn, sexual acts are performed in private, so they aren't really any of your concern or anyone elses.

and..you are making a massive asumption when you assume that all straight ppl have a problem w/ the sexual acts that go on between 2 men. The 1st porn I have ever seen was gay porn (it was my bf's cousins and about 6 of us watched it when we were 15)and no one had a problem w/ it. I'm not saying that this is necessarily common behavious for groups of straight teenagers, but it does demonstrate that not everyone feels the way that you do.

ps i'm getting really sick of explaining things in this thread, but i feel really strongly about the topic at hand and i will continue to defend my position. I hope some day that TOTA can be considered a 'gay postive' space.

Posted by samhouse on Sep-23-2003 15:44:

i agree..
i get quite emotional on this matter simply because ive been so close to the culture over the last year and a half so ive pretty much stayed out of it...Theres been some awesome posts by charms, strangequark, etc and some very uninformed posts by certain others....

welcome to TA strangequark

the level of PLUR certainly can lack here from time to time...but like chris said..there are some awesome people on here...

I'm leaving that one alone... j/k

No big deal...everyone is entitled to their opinion...so long as everyone is left to lead their life in whatever manner they choose, while not infringing upon the rights of others...that's pretty much good enough for me.

Everyone is here for their love of music, parties, etc...there's bound to be serious differences in opinion on other matters. As long as those differences can be discussed rationally (well, some are more rational than others), it's all good

I'll admit I've become more accepting and understanding since indulgin myself into the culture of trance music. Its made me grow in a unique way...hard to explain. I've also been lucky enough to make some amazing friends that are...well...worth a lifetime..

You gotta remember everybodys special. But sometimes its not our similarities but our differences that makes us special...ponder that one

Great thought to leave us with. I totally believe that as well.

I've been reading this whole thread and oh boy let me tell you some things I've read made me kinda sad just because of the ignorance comming through them....but others really lifted me up.
I totally support the gay scene 200%. I know so many people that are lgbt that are sooo much nicer, respectful and fun than some "straight" people. Actually TA parties remind me of that, the vibe, the fun and atmosphere...that you can be however you wish to be and still be welcomed and appreciated by many is a great feeling.

I believe TA is a gay positive place, it's just that a few people don't understand some things when they are different than the way they know, Square rooms.
All I have to say to those people is to open up their minds. It is just like music, (something that we are united here for) some prefer Techno, progressive, trance, jungle, d&b, classical, jazz, etc...etc.... but we still have a couple things in common and love and accept each other for who we are not what our preferences are.

As much of variety there is of things to like or prefer, double as much differences between people who like or prefer them you will find.
It is all a matter of taste.

Please stop the negativity and do what this thread was intended for, bring some positivity!

*Jaz*

P.S>>Welcome to all the new ppl!!

Funny you used that analogy. I'm straight, and enjoy watching Queer as Folk. The sex scenes certainly don't go raunch or over the top, and there's always the possibility of the gals gettin it on

Guess this confirms that I'm that more outta tha norm than I thought.. mission accomplished

(and as for your opinion about being gay, just accept that's how you feel about that lifestyle as a choice for you, and since another's lifestyle choice has no influence on you, don't even bother raising your qualms with it. When did we all turn into parents?)

Ya... I'd be interested to know what other biblical references you tend to use to live your life.

I personally like the ones that say it's Ok to make people slaves as long as they aren't from your own country (Deuteronomy), or the one that says women who are raped must agree to marry their rapist or be stoned to death (Leviticus), or the always popular one that says that if you find any mould in your house you need to take it to a priest so he can pray over it for 3 days (also Leviticus)(I guess lysol wasn't invented yet). Yup, there are all kinds of gems in the bible.

Nice to see you live such a holy life though. I'm sure God is most impressed.

Seriously. Why do people choose to ignore so much int eh bible, but get all caught up on two or three lines - and use them over and over again as a justification for their actions/thoughts.

here's a great West Wing quote to add to that...

"Chapter and verse. I wanted to ask you a couple of questions while I have you here. I'm interested in selling my youngest daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. She's a Georgetown sophomore, speaks fluent Italian, always cleared the table when it was her turn. What would a good price for her be? While thinking about that, can I ask another? My Chief of Staff Leo McGarry insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly says he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself or is it OK to call the police? Here's one that's really important because we've got a lot of sports fans in this town: touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean. Leviticus 11:7. If they promise to wear gloves, can the Washington Redskins still play football? Can Notre Dame? Can West Point? Does the whole town really have to be together to stone my brother John for planting different crops side by side? Can I burn my mother in a small family gathering for wearing garments made from two different threads? Think about those questions, would you?"

Youre right, I dont know you at allall I know of you is your posts here. My intent was to attempt to emulate things you have proffered as jokes here, and to take what was offered as acceptable humour, and extend it to something that was clearly NOT acceptable to show how they were really the sameit is only our perspective that makes one acceptable and one offensive--reducto ad absurdum. Gay bashing still happens, and it kills, and so I just dont happen to think that its funny or even a legitimate basis for humour. Sorry if that makes me dull and humourless. But, if by this attempt, I have offended you or anyone else, I apologize.

A lot of posts here have been really supportive and accepting and thats great that so many people have taken the time to say those things.

But some posts have not.

And thats why there are gay ghettos and why we seek out gay positive spaces even though the ideal would be that everyone accepted and respected and tolerated everyone else, everywhere. We dont want to offend others by the simple act of being who we are, and dont want to exhibit behaviour that some may find disgustingbecause you never know where the line is between acceptable and disgusting-- i dont want to hear him talk about it or act upon it when im around.. is not a very clear behavioural guideline. And you never know exactly how someone is going to express that disapproval. So rather than being on guard all the time, its important to identify those places where you can relax and feel free.

The reality of the world today is that even in places like this where you think people would generally be ok with the gay thing, there are still people that are not really very ok with it. And in a thread CM started to invite other gay, gay positive etc TAs to say hi, some have felt the need to come and show their disapproval, rather than just ignoring it. And the thread ends up mostly being about us defending ourselves, rather than the intended purpose.

But, Im going back to thinking about whats really important now--the music.

Peace, love, unity and respect to everyone.

PLURRRRR!!!!!

Posted by Arsondude2.0 on Sep-25-2003 20:59:

I think some of the "straight" guys on here may be gay. I mean why post in a gay forum that you hate people, or more so like people but think its a sin for people to live their life as they choose.

For that homophobic dude who hates gay sex in every shape and form (probably not lesbian porn...lol theres something ot think about, its ok to watch lesbian porn but gay porn is the devil)
First of all why do u know whe the channel QAF is on and what it shows in the first place.

Second of all Sex and the City and other straight shows show lots of nudity and sexual acts that to me as a gay man would find offensive...so grow up. It goes both ways. You turn on the TV and its straight world, people kissing, having sex, showing off their "sexuality" to the whole world.

So before you start to be ignorant, and think the world revolves around a white, male, straight world...step out of your box, you call life and realize that if you think other ways and experenice different things, you become mor eof a whole person.

My point is i want to go out with some fags to a TA event...since i personally dont know any in the gay world here in Toronto...so heres my msn if you want to do so...

Lots of love
Bobby
